God of Light Description: The God of Light is one of the two Gods who created Remnant and the older brother of the God of Darkness. He initially resided in the Domain of Light. However, after Salem's failed rebellion, his brother wiped out Humanity and the two departed the world for parts unknown. When Humanity eventually resurfaced, he left them four Relics that, if brought together, would summon him and his brother back to Remnant to judge them. In "Of Solitude and Self", it is revealed that he and his brother originated from the Great Tree in the Ever After, and shaped the realm into its current state by creating the Afterans and the different acres suited for them, before eventually leaving to create other worlds.

God of Light Appearance: In his humanoid form, the God of Light appears as a tall male with a crown of branching antlers upon his head. His complexion is a softly glowing light gold, and his build is muscular with his face devoid of features. In his draconic form, while his complexion remains the same, his horns become whiter, longer, and more streamlined and his voice deepens considerably. His body is long and serpentine, like that of a real-world Eastern traditional dragon. He possesses a long mane of golden hair that runs the length of his body, forming a plume at the tip of his tail as well as rather extensive facial hair that terminates in two feathery tipped whiskers. In this form, his eyes appear to emanate a pure, white glow. As shown in “Of Solitude and Self”, the younger form of the God of Light appeared as a golden fawn. As he grew in size, his form gradually became more and more draconic until he reached his current appearance.

God of Light Personality: The God of Light is a soft-spoken yet strict and temperamental being, utterly committed to maintaining the balance that he and his brother established when they created Humanity together. However, while he attempts to show kindness and empathy to those who come before him, he ultimately remains firm in his resolve to uphold order above all else, such as when he kills Ozma upon the hero's resurrection at the hands of his brother and shows anger at his sibling for breaking the rules they both agreed upon. When pushed, he is not above dispensing what he considers to be poetic justice, such as cursing Salem with immortality for her perceived arrogance and disregard for the balance between life and death. Despite this, he remains predisposed to diplomacy, preferring to talk things out rather than resort to violence as a first resort when faced with conflict. However, he does have his limits, as he did not prevent his brother from wiping out of all Humanity when they rebelled against them, although he did turn away to avoid looking at the process, suggesting great reluctance at his brother's cataclysmic attack. He respects the finite limits of life, refusing to revive Ozma, beseeching Salem to let him rest. The God of Light also loved Remnant, considering it to be a "beautiful experiment", granting Ozma the chance to reincarnate in a mission to redeem Humanity, showing the deity's inability to detach himself from his creation. Much like his creations, he is prone to using body language when conversing in his humanoid form such as hand gestures and cocking his brows during his conversation with Ozma when he first proposed the offer of reincarnation to the hero. This is likely an attempt to better communicate, as he has been shown to be less than objective regarding his interactions with Humanity. At his core, however, the God of Light is willing to drop all mannerisms of patience and "justice" to ultimately uphold balance and order, no matter how cruel he has to be to accomplish this and will even take it to the extreme, such as cursing Salem to spite her even further despite having already killed her beloved and restored "balance". Also, despite the care he shows for his creations, he has no problem with wiping out Humanity for the second and last time if they don't live up to his expectations. Although he has a firm stance on maintaining order, the God of Light is not above bending his own rules if he feels the need to, as was the case with returning Ozma to Remnant. Even then, he merely had his soul reincarnate into existing bodies instead of fully resurrecting him. In "Of Solitude and Self", it revealed the origin of his feud with his brother. After creating the Jabberwalker, he believed that it disrupted the balance of the Ever After and wished to destroy it, while the God of Darkness did not think their creation should be punished for their own mistakes. The two could not find a compromise; making them resent one another. Though this feud later seemingly came to an end when they created Humanity.

God of Light Abilities and Skills: As a being with abilities that transcend multiple plains of existence, the true power of the God of Light has yet to be seen. As a being that represents creation, he is naturally attuned to its forces. He presumably shares his brother's ability to create and resurrect souls from the afterlife, as his refusal to bring back Ozma was a matter of principle over power. He also shares in his brother's powers of teleportation, energy and matter manipulation, shapeshifting, flight in dragon form, immense physical strength and powers of creation. He is able to alter the nature of a soul to enter the afterlife, as was the case with Ozma, who he burdened with the task of redeeming Humanity by reincarnating without end in order to do so, and Salem, who he cursed with immortality, making it impossible for her to die, even if her body is completely destroyed. The God of Light is also a skilled sorcerer, able to create the four Relics, each with a quality that embodies the four gifts of Humanity from the Gods. His inanimate creations tend to sport ornate designs yet thus far appear to carry a spark of life all on their own, such as Jinn and Ambrosius, the spirits that reside within the Relics of Knowledge and Creation. Before Remnant, he resided in the Ever After, where he and his brother created the Afterans and assigned them their purpose and roles. The two also created the Acres, each existing as their own self-contained realms and operating under their own set of rules. Eventually, they grew powerful enough to no longer be bound to their roles, creating the Curious Cat and Jabberwalker to replace them before departing the realm to a "greater beyond". He is believed to be the originator of the Silver Eyes, as he was shown capable of obliterating his brother's Grimm with a very similar white light as them.

God of Light's Opinion on Salem: When the God of Light first met Salem, he refuses to revive Ozma and tells her that she should move on. When she refused to listen and tried to manipulate the Gods in order to get her way, the God of Light along with his brother cursed Salem with immortality. Although he initially felt pity for the grieving woman, his sympathy did not override his imperative to maintain order. Following Humanity’s destruction and before leaving Remnant, the God of Light hoped that Salem could still learn from her mistakes despite everything that happened, showing that he still felt a sense of sympathy towards her.

Ozma: After his departure from Remnant, the God of Light talks to Ozma “between realms” and gives him the task to bring peace to Humanity. To achieve this, he endowed him with the ability to reincarnate. He also created the four Relics, objects when brought together would summon him and his brother back to Remnant. The God of Light appeared to respect Ozma when choosing him for this task, likely due to his role as a catalyst for what had happened.

God of Darkness Description: God of Darkness is a destructive & spiteful being who enjoys destruction & darkness, though longs to be worshiped & praised like his brother even after their agreement was made. He is shown to be a bit gullible as he was fooled by Salem's word & even broke his deal with his brother simply because he believed someone was worshiping him.

God of Darkness possesses high destruction and darkness-based powers, destroying & erasing his brother's creations & twisted them into nightmarish versions of themselves. He is responsible for creating the Grimm & the pools they spawn from, allowing him to command & control them as well. He can use dark energy for powerful blasts and waves which can destroy anything they hit or shield others from his brother's powers, shown when he destroyed all of mankind & blasted a hole in the moon. He can resurrect the dead.

God of Darkness Appearance: In his humanoid form, the God of Darkness appears as a slim male with curved, segmented horns on his head that arc back and curve upward. His form is a deep purple that seems to draw in surrounding light. Like his brother, the Dark God's face is utterly devoid of features, though humanoid contours are present. In his draconic form, he appears as a large, real-world Western traditional, four-legged dragon with two wings whose membranes are frayed and dotted with multiple holes in them, and even more ornately spiraled horns. His overall body is skeletal, with a face like a skull with empty eye sockets, and a row of bone-like spines that run the length of his body. As shown in “Of Solitude and Self”, the younger form of the God of Darkness appeared as a purple lamb. As he grew in size, his form gradually became more and more draconic until he reached his current appearance.

God of Darkness Personality: The God of Darkness is a proud, unforgiving, and temperamental entity. When Salem led an army against him and his brother, he wiped them out without a second thought, showing that although he is attached to his creations, he will not hesitate to put them in their place. In spite of his pride, he is not above apologizing, such as when he retaliated against his brother for a perceived attack upon his authority within his own home. This instance of humility shows his more reasonable and diplomatic side. He seems to have more of a taste for the theatrical, in contrast to his much more straightforward brother. This is shown when they were both killing Ozma, the God of Darkness used a massive dragon breath while his brother simply waved his hand and made him disintegrate. Similarly, as they were leaving Remnant, the God of Light teleported away while the God of Darkness chose to fly away in a ball of energy, crashing through the moon in the process despite it being one of his past creations. He is somewhat jaded and cynical, basking in the pleas of Salem, who came to his domain in her quest to bring Ozma back to life. He graciously resurrected the hero twice against his brother's wishes. However, when made aware of Salem's manipulations, he killed the young man, showing his contempt for being controlled by others. In addition to this, he appears to be somewhat jealous of his elder brother and all of the positive attention that Humanity constantly gives him and has implied that he would also like to receive similar worship and faith. This simple sibling rivalry was likely the reason why he was so quick to agree with resurrecting Ozma for Salem, as he felt that she was the first person who wasn't afraid of him. He can be casually destructive; when he departed Remnant with his brother, his exit shattered the moon and caused massive devastation by way of a meteor shower. In spite of his darker nature and jealousy towards him, he is still loyal to his brother, coming to the God of Light's side during Salem's rebellion in order to defend him. He was also shown to be very caring and protective when it came to his own creations, the Creatures of Grimm. After his truce with his brother, the God of Darkness chose to live in the Land of Darkness among his own creations as opposed to anywhere else. When Salem arrives at his temple, a pack of Beowolves can be seen living peacefully in the main chambers. Later, after wiping out all Humans on the planet except for Salem, the God of Darkness notably leaves the Grimm alive. This genuine love for the Grimm may be a result of his previous creation, the Jabberwalker, which he would always resurrect every time his brother destroyed it due to his beliefs on balance. However, when the two created Remnant and his brother created abundant life on the planet, he responded by creating creatures with a desire for pure destruction and gave them forms similar to the Jabberwalker, as if to honor it. In "Of Solitude and Self", it revealed the origin of his feud with his brother. After creating the Jabberwalker, the God of Light believed that it disrupted the balance and wished to destroy it, while the God of Darkness did not think their creation should be punished for their mistakes, ironically reversing their positions as beings of creation and destruction. The two could not find a compromise; making them resent one another. Though this feud later seemingly came to an end when they created Humanity.

God of Darkness Powers and Abilities: While the majority of his abilities have yet to be laid bare, the God of Darkness is an unfathomably powerful being whose power transcends the mortal world. As a being of destruction, he is naturally attuned to its forces. He has the ability to shapeshift between a humanoid and draconic form, the power to create sentient life, recall a soul from the afterlife, teleport and unleash massive waves of magical energy. He is precise enough with it that only those he target are affected, such as when he vaporized an entire species on a global scale while leaving everything else untouched, or when he unleashed a torrent of energy to kill Ozma while leaving Salem unharmed despite her holding on to him. In addition, he can manipulate matter and energy to a great extent, such as creating a physical body for Ozma's soul that is identical to the one he originally possessed. He is also the one who bestowed Magic to Humanity. While in his dragon form, the God of Darkness possesses the power of flight, immense physical strength and the power to breathe a torrent of dark energy from his body. His physical powers are of such magnitude that he was capable of shattering the moon with no discernible care or effort.

  • Relationships Family: God of Light: The God of Darkness is the younger brother of the God of Light. He appears to be hostile towards him and his ideas about life but does show loyalty and caring towards his older sibling. When his brother told him the truth about Salem, he put his pride aside and apologized for his actions by destroying the resurrected Ozma. He also came to his side when Salem's rebellion invaded the Domain of Light. As shown in “Of Solitude and Self”, the Brothers have always been close despite their differences. Even after clashing in regard to the fate of the Jabberwalker, when leaving the Ever After, the two went together rather than go their separate ways and continue to work together as they created various new worlds.

  • Afterans Curious Cat: The Curious Cat was created by the God of Light and his brother during the early days of the Ever After. As shown in “Of Solitude and Self”, the Cat was made in order for them to take over their role in maintaining the realm and find the “broken” pieces of the realm and fixing them. However, when the Brothers left the Ever After to begin creating their own worlds, the Cat developed strong resentment towards the two and desired to leave the realm, find them and demand an answer on why they abandoned them.

Jabberwalker: Following their creation of the Curious Cat, the God of Darkness and his brother created the Jabberwalker to "finish" what the cat started. However, it was both brutal and efficient, and eventually was destroyed by the God of Light for disrupting what he believed was the balance of the Ever After. Not agreeing with his brother and believing that the Jabberwalker was simply fulfilling its purpose as made by them, it was brought back by the God of Darkness, leading to them fighting over its fate. When the two left the Ever After, they allowed the Jabberwalker to continue living and doing its job. Due to the similarities the Grimm have with the Jabberwalker in nature, purpose, and appearance, as well as the God of Darkness’ fondness for the creature, it's possible that the Jabberwalker is the precursor to the Grimm and that the God of Darkness based the Grimm on the Jabberwalker when he created them.

Opinions on Salem: At first, the God of Darkness was surprised but very pleased, that she had chosen to come to him instead of his brother unlike the rest of Humanity and eagerly granted her wish to revive her deceased lover. After his brother told him the truth about Salem, however, he felt rejected and betrayed that she had asked his brother first instead of him. The God of Darkness along with his brother cursed Salem for her selfish and demanding nature in her attempts to revive Ozma.
