Hitori Gotoh (後ご藤とう ひとり, Gotō Hitori), often referred to by her bandmates as Bocchi-chan (ぼっちちゃん),[2] is the titular main protagonist of the manga and anime series Bocchi the Rock!. She is a first-year of Shuka High School and is the lead guitarist and lyricist of Kessoku Band.

She is extremely timid and introverted, with a strong desire to perform in a band to highlight her talents. This aspiration led her to take up the guitar. Despite being very skilled, she faces challenges in demonstrating her abilities effectively in front of an audience.

In her uniform, she usually wears a pink tracksuit with a long gray pleated skirt, black socks, and brown shoes as part of her style. Ironically, she surprisingly has a large bust (shown in the manga); this is most likely because she dresses in baggy clothing. Her body portions are exaggerated her thighs are huge and pale and her breasts ARE BIG! are J-cup her butt is BIG! She has a mom figure at 17 having child bearing hips and abs and a tight groin

   Personality

Hitori is an extremely introverted girl with high social anxiety, making it very difficult for her to talk to strangers. She often tries to avoid interactions, even performing her first live house show from inside a cardboard mango box.[8] Because of her introversion, she rarely goes outside and instead spends most of her time at home, playing the guitar alone in a dark closet.

She seeks praise from others, likely as a reaction to her personality. She started playing the guitar to become a music star for the sole reason of being admired. She sometimes attempts to socialize, often in unusual ways, such as mimicking how others talk. However, these attempts often fail. ADVERTISEMENT

   Plot

   History

Hitori started playing the guitar in her first year of middle school and improved her skills by practicing six hours daily. Although, after she had graduated from middle school and begun attending Shuka High School, she still had no friends at the start of the series.[9]

   Volume 1

Hitori was playing her guitar in her house while lamenting in an internal monologue about how she was on the brink of becoming a hikikomori, a shut off from society due to her social issues. She found comfort in the comments people left on her "guitarhero" video channel, but when someone suggested she perform live, her motivation dropped. She thought back to her middle school days when she tried and failed to make friends through her love for "rock". She dreamed of forming a band and performing live, but it seemed like a distant fantasy. The next day, she showed up at Shuka High School with her guitar and band merchandise, but no one seemed interested. Feeling down, she wandered around Shimokitazawa, ending up on a swing in a nearby playground, and bemoaned her bad luck. Suddenly, a girl approached her, and she introduced herself as Nijika Ijichi. Noticing her guitar, she asked Hitori to be a substitute for their band's recent runaway guitarist. Hitori reluctantly agreed and Nijika took her to a live house called STARRY. On the way, Nijika rambled on about herself, making it hard for Hitori to listen. But when Nijika mentioned the "guitarhero" channel and how she wished to play with the creator, Hitori was surprised and grateful that someone liked her work.

When they arrived in STARRY, Nijika introduced Hitori to Ryo Yamada, who was already inside.[10] The live house and its staff were so gloomy that Hitori was afraid and hid in a trash can. When they started to practice, Hitori was very bad, which dampened her motivation despite her impressive performances as guitarhero. To boost her confidence, Ryo suggested that she hide in a mango box to calm down, and surprisingly worked. She felt much better and was able to perform well in the live show. Ryo also explained the band's name, Kessoku Band, and gave her the nickname "Bocchi(-chan)." Although Hitori was just in a box, she felt optimistic playing with the band and believed that improving her social skills was crucial to showcasing her potential as guitarhero.[11]

On the following day, Bocchi shared with the band her avoidance of people, revealing how she travels 2 hours to school to avoid meeting anyone she knows, and how happy songs make her feel like she is missing out on youth. When Nijika brought up the band's financial situation and the need to work part-time, Bocchi was hesitant to give up her savings and feared the idea of working. Nijika then offered her a job at the live house instead, which Bocchi reluctantly accepted but still searched for the odds of winning the lottery to avoid her responsibility.[12] On her first day of work, Bocchi tried to skip it by resorting to bathing in cold water and sitting in front of a blowing fan but failed. Her nervousness gets in the way even right before she entered the live house until the manager noticed her and got her mistaken as a customer. The whole day passed with a lot of mishaps on her part, but it went well nevertheless, and Nijika compliments her for taking a step forward. She managed to get herself excited for the next day, but her excitement for the next day was ruined by a fever that struck her at the wrong time.[13]

She came back to school frustrated with her anxiety hindering her communication until she stumbled upon a cheerful girl. She tried getting her attention to get the girl to join her band but ended up running away herself. After a proper explanation, Kita initially declined due to her previous experience with a certain band but asked Bocchi if she could teach her guitar. Bocchi agreed and even brought Kita to her part-time job, only to discover that it was at the very same live house where her old band played and where the former Kessoku Band vocalist quit.[14] Despite feeling overwhelmed by Kita's presence when she joined the crew on her job, Bocchi showed her the ropes on the job and they developed a mutual understanding. Finally, Kita rejoined the band.[15]

In the following events, Bocchi "enjoyed" teaching Kita how to play the guitar, working her part-time job, and having photoshoots with the group.[16] The band asked her to write lyrics for a new song, but Bocchi struggled to come up with an idea that she was satisfied with. After receiving guidance from Ryo, she finally finished the lyrics, which the band liked and approved of.[17] When Seika puts the band for their upcoming live performance, the band passed, but Bocchi became overwhelmed and vomited due to the stress. Seika saw this and offered constructive criticism to her, commenting such as that she often looks down, hoping to help Bocchi improve, but Bocchi misinterpreted her comments as a threat.[18]

Bocchi encounters a dead end when trying to sell her tickets for their performance. She finds herself reflecting on her situation where suddenly she comes across a collapsed woman. After helping her, she identifies her as a guitarist and introduces herself as Hiroi, a bassist. After hearing about Bocchi's situation, Hiroi invites her to perform a surprise street live together. The impromptu performance attracts a large audience and even results in a few ticket sales; two girls bought her tickets and so does Hiroi, but she still borrows the money from Bocchi for her ticket home.[19] The band members, except for Ryo, pay Bocchi a visit at her home to have a good time and discuss band-related matters. Things go "well" until the end when they all turn into dust.[20]

When the date for their performance comes, unfortunately the weather was bad which caused a significant setback for the band as many people were unable to attend. Only the drunk woman and two girls from Bocchi's previous live performance showed up, which resulted in the band feeling demotivated. The live performance started poorly with the band feeling out of sync, but Bocchi stepped up with her leading guitar solo, which helped to remotivate them, which caused them to perform their next song exceptionally well.[21] They later celebrated their success with a feast at an izakaya. Before they went home, Nijika had a conversation with Bocchi, acknowledging her as guitarhero and giving her a new name, Bocchi the Rock.[22]

   Volume 2

In the summer holidays, Bocchi found herself spending most of her time playing the guitar and aimlessly browsing the internet until she grew tired of it. She then went to STARRY just to hold a funeral for cicadas. Upon learning that the band had not done anything together for almost the entire holiday, they decided to take a trip to Enoshima. This was particularly challenging since all but one of them preferred indoor activities. Despite the challenges, they had a good time, although Bocchi was attacked by the birds there.[23]

When the application window for the school festival performance opened, Bocchi tried to apply for the band but found herself held back by her persistent anxiety. Seeking guidance from both her bandmates and the STARRY crew, she struggled to muster the courage to apply. Just when she thought she might give up, Kita revealed that she had already applied on their behalf, making Bocchi die on the inside (figuratively).[24] With the application now irrevocable, the pressure mounted as it cannot be canceled. Bocchi also faced a grueling exam session that left her feeling drained.[25] Though she just managed to pass, the looming festival weighed heavily on her mind.

In search of motivation for the upcoming school festival live, Hiroi invited the band to witness her band's performance at FOLT, a live house. Bocchi found renewed determination after watching Hiroi and her band gave it their all on stage. The band members then practiced tirelessly for several days leading up to the festival.[26] On the day of the festival, Bocchi found herself in a difficult situation as she needed to dress up as a maid for their class café. She ran away before the café even started, but the other band members managed to track her down and take her to other stalls to have fun. However, Bocchi was still obligated to work at the café. They also rehearsed in the school gymnasium as their performance was scheduled for the second day of the festival.[27]

In the school gymnasium on the second day of the festival, Kessoku Band started their performance, and Bocchi was filled with anxiety. Unfortunately, midway on the performance, she discovered that the first guitar string was severely out of tune during the performance, and had to constantly try to tune it during the first song. The situation worsened as the same string snapped during the second song; the second string could not be tuned due to a broken peg. With no time to waste, Bocchi improvised and used an empty cup of sake left by Hiroi, who was watching, to perform a slide guitar solo, which surprised the audience in a good way. After the performance ended, Kita gave Bocchi a space to talk during the MC session, but she didn't know what to say. So, she thought about what Hiroi would do and impulsively jumped off the stage, without anyone to catch her it resulted in Bocchi falling to the ground and losing consciousness. She was rushed to the infirmary, accompanied by Kita. The incident caused the students to remember her as the "crazy rocker who dived," which made Bocchi very embarrassed.[28]

Bocchi apologized to her father for the broken guitar and the incident at the school festival. Despite this, her father told her not to worry about it since it can still be fixed, but he suggested that she buy a new guitar. To her surprise, her father revealed that her guitarhero channel had earned her enough money (a total of 300,000 yen) to buy a new guitar. Although she initially tried to quit her part-time job, she eventually gave up. Along with her friends, Bocchi went to Ochanomizu in Shibuya to look for a new guitar. She finally decided on a custom Yamaha guitar, which the attendant advised her to take care of well.[29]

Later, Nijika paid Bocchi a visit at her place and expressed her interest in watching Bocchi's guitarhero recordings. Upon viewing them together, Nijika brought up "My New Gear," a user who flaunted a high-end guitar and later auctioned it off to purchase a newer model. They both discovered that Ryo also joined in on this trend. Nijika encouraged Bocchi to create a Twitta account, but unfortunately, Bocchi was unable to resist the "Attention-Whore Monster" in her mind, which begged for more likes. She ended up spending the remaining income from her channel on a lot of effects pedals just to garner attention. After realizing her poor decision-making skills, she became frustrated with her financial situation; and worst, found out that her failed stage dive had gone viral.[30]

When Kessoku Band was preparing for their next live performance, they were surprised by the unexpected appearance of a young-looking girl named Poison♡Yami. She introduced herself as a writer for Band Lab. She interviewed the band, with a particular interest in Bocchi due to her previous viral fame. This caused some suspicion among the band members. Later, during their live performance, Poison♡Yami was among the audience and was amazed by Bocchi's guitar playing. She made a shocking revelation to everyone present—she was the person behind guitarhero channel.[31]

Despite Nijika's efforts to conceal Bocchi's online identity (the only person who knows about Bocchi's online persona), Poison♡Yami pointed out several similarities between Bocchi's online and real-life appearances, leaving Bocchi feeling flustered. The rest of the bandmates did not react strongly, but Poison♡Yami accused Kessoku Band of not allowing Bocchi to reach her full potential as a guitarist and labeled them an average band. Seika and PA-san eventually chased Poison♡Yami out of the venue, threatening to expose her real identity to the public. Although the band didn't seem too affected by her accusations, Bocchi took them to heart and made a big decision: she and the band would join Mikakunin Riot together as Kessoku Band.[32]

   Relationships

   Nijika Ijichi

Nijika played a significant role in Bocchi's exposure to band life and her social development, as she was the one to convince her to join the band. As the band's leader, she treated Bocchi with kindness and encouragement, along with the other members. Nijika was also a source of motivation for Bocchi, offering words of encouragement whenever she deemed it appropriate.

Despite being a Guitarhero fan, Nijika was unaware that Bocchi was behind the channel when she first recruited her. However, her intuition eventually recognized the similarities and she pointed them out to Bocchi, who confirmed her claims. Nijika came to understand the truth and respected Bocchi's wish to keep her identity a secret. Nijika even witnessed Bocchi's musical prowess firsthand. When Poison♡Yami attempted to reveal Bocchi's identity, Nijika tried to defend her until Bocchi ultimately gave in.

   Ryo Yamada

Ryo is responsible for giving Hitori her nickname "Bocchi," and also named the band "Kessoku Band." The two quickly became close friends after their first meeting, and Ryo used her experience from a previous band to help Bocchi find her role in Kessoku Band. Although both are introverted and quiet, Ryo is less anxious than Bocchi and tends to remain composed in stressful situations.

However, Ryo has a habit of borrowing money from Bocchi, making promises to repay her, but often fails to do so due to financial difficulties. Additionally, when Bocchi experiences a mishap, Ryo sometimes laughs at her, although this is just playful teasing within their strong and supportive friendship.

   Ikuyo Kita

Despite being strangers, they quickly became close friends as she was the one to recruit her back to Kessoku band and the one who taught her how to play the guitar. They also attended the same school and were in the same class during their second year. She was also the one who helped Kita reconcile with the other band members after her sudden disappearance.

Although they have a strong friendship, they both have their own weaknesses. Bocchi feels insecure about her ability to make friends compared to Kita's outgoing personality, while Kita is insecure about Bocchi's talent and determination. Despite this, they rarely argue, except for the time when Kita became uncomfortable with Bocchi's obsession with keeping their band photo as tiled walls in her closet, which led her to distance herself from Bocchi for a few days.

Kita is known for her politeness and addresses Bocchi by her last name, "Gotoh-san." Later, as they became closer friends, Kita started calling her "Hitori-chan." Kita is also aware of Bocchi's social anxiety and wants to help her overcome it. However, her attempts sometimes end up making things worse for Bocchi, such as when she gave her a chance to speak during their cultural festival live, which resulted in Bocchi's stage dive incident. Despite this, neither Bocchi nor Kita seem to dwell on these mishaps.

   Seika Ijichi

At first, Bocchi was intimidated by Seika's unfriendly and strict personality when she first joined STARRY. Seika's demeanor often made Bocchi nervous about her job and performance. However, Seika actually considers Bocchi to be a great person with untapped potential as both a guitarist and as an individual. Unfortunately, Seika struggles to effectively communicate these thoughts to Bocchi, which has left Bocchi largely unaware of Seika's true feelings. While their relationship is primarily that of employer and employee, there are moments when they do genuinely care for each other.

   Kikuri Hiroi

Kikuri is like an older sister to Bocchi, who greatly admires Hiroi's skills as a bassist. Their first meeting was during a street live performance in Kanazawa-Hakken, where Hiroi's encouraging words helped Bocchi learn a lot. Hiroi also recognized Bocchi's potential as a guitarist and became a huge supporter of her band, attending all of their performances.

However, Bocchi is not fond of Hiroi's behavior off-stage, as she sometimes causes trouble for the crowd due to her excessive drinking. Hiroi also has a tendency to borrow money from Bocchi and others, which can be frustrating.

   Futari Gotoh

Bocchi finds it challenging to get along with Futari because of their contrasting personalities. She often feels hurt by Futari's blunt comments and inferiority due to being placed at the lowest tier of the "Futari Family Pyramid." Despite this, their sibling relationship remains positive, and Futari occasionally shows support toward Bocchi.

   Naoki Gotoh

Naoki played a significant role in Bocchi's guitar journey as he allowed her to borrow his guitar and even set up her guitarhero channel. Being a former musician himself, Naoki understands the struggles that come with learning an instrument, and he always provides Bocchi with helpful advice and support whenever she faces difficulties. He is Bocchi's most expressive supporter among all her family members and often records her performances on his camcorder during events or occasions.

However, Naoki tends to be brutally honest with his opinions, which sometimes includes not believing in Bocchi's ability to make friends through her music because of his impression of her. Despite this, his intentions are always well-meaning, and he truly wants the best for Bocchi.

   Michiyo Gotoh

Bocchi's mother is known for being both nurturing and strict towards her daughter. She has always been supportive of Bocchi's interests and activities, while also providing constructive criticism when necessary. Despite her understanding of Bocchi's social struggles, she never hesitates to address any problematic behaviors, whether they occur in Bocchi's personal life or band activities. While she tends to be honest about her views of Bocchi with others, she never scolds Bocchi for her introverted tendencies. Instead, she encourages her to step out of her comfort zone while also respecting her boundaries.

   Name origin

The name Hitori means "alone, one person" (ひとり). Hitori's surname Gotoh means "rear, remainder" (後, go) and "wisteria" (藤, tou). Her nickname Bocchi comes from hitoribocchi (ひとりぼっち), meaning "loneliness." Bocchi means "loner" in Japanese slang. Trivia

Her surname is derived from Masafumi Gotoh. Despite deriving her name to Masafumi Gotoh, Bocchi's role in a band was more related to Kensuke Kita, the lead guitarist of Asian Kungfu Generation Her birthday, February 21 (2/21) is a reverse reading of Masafumi's birthday, which is December 2 (12/2). Some fans had speculated that her nickname "Bocchi" was made based on Masafumi's nickname "Gotch" and that the title "Bocchi the Rock!" is also named after his book GOTCH GO ROCK! (ゴッチ語録). However the author Hamazi Aki clearly denied them, as a mere coincidence.[33][34] Her first guitar was a Gibson Les Paul Custom 1968 Reissue Ebony, which she borrowed from her father Naoki. The guitar's brand is the same as Yui Hirasawa from K-ON!, but the model is different; the latter owns a Gibson Les Paul Standard '50s Heritage Cherry Sunburst. Along with the guitar she uses a Boss Blues Driver (BD-2) effects pedal, though this wasn't animated correctly in the anime. In episode 12 of the anime, Bocchi is shown to use a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver, a ProCo RAT, a Dunlop GCB-95 CryBaby Wah and a Boss MS-3 Multi-FX Switcher, all of which is powered by a Custom Audio Japan AC/DC Station v2, along with a Marshall JCM900 guitar amplifier. In chapter 42 of the manga, there was a pedal which some fans believe to be a Klon Centaur, based on its recognizable design. In a second-hand store, she mentions having wanted that pedal for a while, but didn't buy it previously because it was too expensive. Her second guitar is a custom Yamaha PACIFICA611VFM, part of the PAC600 series. This specific model is exclusive to Bocchi the Rock! series. It appears to be a Yamaha PACIFICA611VFM - Translucent Black with a black pickguard, rather than the stock tortoise shell pickguard.[35] In the magazine release of chapter 21 however, the guitar color was originally Dark Red Burst. This was later changed to the current custom black in the volume 2 tankōbon version of the chapter and subsequently the anime. Yamaha actually did a real model of it, which is exclusive to the 2 winners of the lucky draw held in Japan after the last episode of the anime aired. Another Yamaha-related item that Bocchi has is a THR5 amplifier, which she used for her guitar playing at home. Her Steinberg audio interface seen in the anime is also distributed by Yamaha in Japan. It takes her two hours to get to STARRY from her house.[36] Her home is near to Kanazawa-hakkei Station (金沢八景駅), Kanazawa-ku, Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture.[19] The scenery of the Kanazawa-hakkei area can be seen in episodes 6 and 7 of the anime.[37] The station is located about 37 linear kilometers (23 miles) away from Shimokitazawa Station, the nearby station from STARRY. In the English subtitles on Crunchyroll, Hitori Goto was used in episode 1, but later was fixed. She used to lie on her guitarhero channel, often saying that she usually went to a karaoke bar to sing with her friends, and even saying that she had a boyfriend.[29] She was never seen wearing a school uniform blouse and often wears her pink tracksuit alongside with maroon band t-shirt underneath.[38] She is the only member of Kessoku Band that doesn't have a microphone whenever they perform. Originally Hamazi planned for Bocchi to look more cheerful, however, this was rejected by the editor since it does not look serious enough for her work.[39] Hitori's Youtube channel, guitarhero is a reference to the rhythm game series published by Activision, Guitar Hero. She prefers to wear a school swimsuit rather than a bikini because she feels more comfortable in it. She does yoga with her mom to calm her anxiety, and surprisingly, she is quite flexible.

   Plot

   History

Originally she was under the care of her mother who used to dote on her. Her sister, Seika also used to play a lot with her. However after Seika formed a band, she ended up neglecting her family and ultimately left the house, which made Nijika sad and angry. As a result, she came to hate bands because she felt they stole her sister from her. Her mother was the only one taking care of her at this point.

However, her mother died in an accident, and Nijika, worried that nobody would care of her after that, refused to go outside or even go to school, which concerned her father. He urged Seika return home to take care of her. Seika, realizing her mistakes, finally decided to spend more time with Nijika. She later brought Nijika to see her band perform in a live house. After seeing their performance, Nijika reopened her heart to her sister and was inspired to play music. Although compared to the guitar, she prefers drums because they look cooler.[7]

This also led Seika to quit her band and establish STARRY, where they started to live and work. Seeing that her sister had sacrificed a lot and that she wanted to become better at drumming, she was determined to form a band herself. She managed to recruit her classmate, Ryo Yamada, and subsequently a certain guitar-vocalist, who shortly afterwards, would abruptly quit.

   Volume 1

Nijika met a girl in a pink tracksuit in a certain playground, and approached her after noticing her guitar. She asked if she could fill in for her guitarist who ran off. The girl was startled by her presence and was in a panic, but Nijika managed to introduce herself and convey her request to the girl, to which she reluctantly agreed.

Nijika then brought the girl to STARRY, and introduced her to Ryo who had already arrived. She and Ryo talked with the girl to get to know her a bit more, who then introduced herself as Hitori Gotoh. Nijika hesitantly agreed with Ryo's proposed nickname "Bocchi(-chan)". She also commented about the band name, which is a terrible pun. They later had a live session together and Bocchi officially joined the band.

Meeting again at STARRY, Nijika initiates topics of conversation by playing dice. They discuss their favorite songs (in which she mentioned liking melodic hardcore and punk rock), school, and especially about the band. She explained to Bocchi about the quota system, and how they really need money in order to perform. She suggested working part time to Bocchi which throws her again in a state of panic, so she offered Bocchi to work with them together in STARRY. Come Bocchi's first day on the job, she helped Bocchi by showing her the ropes. She was satisfied by Bocchi's work despite all her mistakes, but as long as Bocchi could overcome her current state step by step, she was already happy enough.

One day, she got a message from Bocchi to "dance wildly with an energy drink on her hand" in an attempt to make the live house looks more lively for a certain guest. Nijika bought a lot of energy drinks for that, only to notice that Bocchi brought Kita - the runaway guitar-vocalist of the band. Kita apologized for her abrupt departure and explained her reason, but Nijika had no trouble with her.

In order to promote the band, Nijika suggested the band shoot a professional photograph outside. After multiple suggestions of the kind of photo they wanted, they decided to do the "jump style" where according to Ryo, it is a powerful shot for an anime. She felt a "youth sensation" with that style and felt optimistic for the band's future.

Nijika asked about the band's next live only to be rejected by Seika, who explained that the band would need to pass an audition in order to perform. They did so, and passed, allowing them to hold their first live Afterward, Nijika and Kita went to Bocchi's house to visit and talk about the band, where they met Bocchi's little sister, Futari, and noted how different she and her sister were. They tried to design T-shirts for Kessoku Band. However, they weren't able to come to a consensus, and opted for a basic shirt with the band's logo instead.

On the day of the live, they were hampered by a rainstorm, which resulted in a low turnout from their ticket buyers. Nijika and Kita tried to cheer up the somber mood in the house during the MC session to no avail. Everything went wrong until Bocchi stepped up with her solo, which brought the band's spirits up, giving them the boost they needed to perform better. After the celebratory feast at an izakaya, Nijika reveals to Bocchi that she realized her identity as "guitarhero. She also give Bocchi her title "Bocchi the Rock".

She always helped her dealing with her anxiety shenanigans, and always be the one that devises the plan to improve Bocchi's social skill to be better like having her working part time together in STARRY or be the one that suggest to visit her house. In fact Nijika is viewed as the main reason why Bocchi managed to get out from her shell and performs in a band - due to her did not hesitate to invite Bocchi to join Kessoku Band despite being originally an outsider and Nijika does not even know Bocchi's online identity yet that time. Even when Nijika finally know about it, she cared more about how to make Bocchi comfortable with that fact and not too sensitive towards it.

   Ryo Yamada

Ryo Yamada (山やま田だ リョウ, Yamada Ryō) is one of the main characters in the manga and anime series Bocchi the Rock!. She is a second-year student at Shimokitazawa High School and is the bassist, backup vocalist, and composer for Kessoku Band.

She works a part-time job at the live house STARRY with Nijika Ijichi. She has an androgynous appearance and a mysterious atmosphere, often expressionless. She often fascinates women, including Ikuyo Kita, who falls in love at first sight.

A cool and solitary second-year high school student. She is the bassist of Kessoku Band and Nijika's best friend. Her hobbies are out of the ordinary, and she rejoices when called a weirdo. She lives with a wealthy family but never has any money because she spends it all on instruments. She occasionally eats weeds to get rid of her hunger.[4] Appearance

Ryo has short blue hair with two black square hair clips on the right side of her bangs and yellow eyes, with a mole on her left cheek.

Ryo has big hips and I-cup breasts

Ryo's uniform consists of a collared white shirt worn with a black ribbon, a dark blue pleated skirt, black leggings, maroon or brown loafers, and a matching long sleeved sweater. This outfit is similar to most Japanese high school uniforms (seifuku). Personality

Despite her expressionless exterior, Ryo is an eccentric girl with a mischievous sense of humor, coming across as a person who likes to mess with others. She's fairly tactless and is happy to be called a weirdo. She is quiet and has few friends, but unlike Bocchi, prefers to spend time alone. She has a tendency to make up excuses to get out of social activities, but Nijika sees through them every time. Despite her reserved nature, Ryo enjoys showing off her bass playing skills whenever possible.

Ryo has encyclopedic knowledge about her interests and becomes very talkative about them when given the opportunity. Ryo is shown to be an inconsistent student and temporarily forgets her musical knowledge when she studies for upcoming exams. She also has very strong opinions on how bands should present themselves, and encourages Bocchi to write genuine lyrics for Kessoku Band's material.

Although her parents run a hospital and are very wealthy, she spends most of her pocket money on musical instruments. This has led her to borrow money from others up to the point where she even eats weeds when she can't afford food on her own. The reason she took interest in rock was to get her constantly doting parents to think she went down the wrong path and leave her alone.

Ryo is a huge fan of SICK HACK, seen expressing excitement toward Kikuri Hiroi's drunken antics on stage. ADVERTISEMENT

   Plot

   History

Taking interest in rock bands at the age of ten, she was originally in a band before quitting due to creative differences with other members, and the band itself broke up later. She later joined Nijika in forming Kessoku Band as a bassist, and a certain girl also joined them as a vocalist-guitarist before abruptly quitting.

   Volume 1

Ryo was in STARRY when Nijika brought a girl in her tracksuit with a guitar, who would be the new guitarist for the band. Seeing the girl was in a state of panic after a terrible practice session, she and Nijika initiated some conversation to comfort her. She later gave the girl she just met - Hitori Gotoh, a nickname "Bocchi," as a play of the word "hitoribocchi" (lonely). She also describes "Kessoku Band" as a perfect name for their band.

In their next meeting, Ryo revealed many facts about herself - that she doesn't have any friends outside the band, and that her favorite music is supposedly something from Saudi Arabia charts and techno music (implied to be a lie). Nijika also informed Bocchi that Ryo is terrible at financial management due to her excessive spending on instruments - which she takes as a compliment.

After Kita rejoined the band, Ryo bought her six string bass (which she purchased by mistake), and lent her a guitar to use. As Ryo had spent the last of her money on the bass, she was forced to eat weeds for the rest of the week.

After looking over Bocchi's lyrics at a café, she told Bocchi about her experiences with her previous band, and how individuality and staying true to oneself is more important than trying to appeal to others. Upon leaving the café, she asked Bocchi to cover the bill, as she didn't have any money.

Ryo later skipped several days of work and school on account of her writer's block, but after a visit from her bandmates, found the inspiration she needed, and returned the next day.

   Name origin

The name Ryo is written in katakana (リョウ), which has no special meaning. When written in kanji, her first name can have a variety of different meanings including: "cool" (涼, ryō) and "clear" (亮, ryō). In mainland China and Taiwan, It is written as "涼" (cool). Ryo's surname Yamada means "mountain, pile" (山, yama) and "rice field" (田, ta/da). Trivia

Her surname is derived from Takahiro Yamada. Her birthday, September 18 (9/18) is a reverse reading of his birthday, August 19 (8/19). Her bass is a Fender Mexican Standard Precision Bass in an Olympic White finish with a rosewood fingerboard. The bass makes its first manga appearance in Volume 3. In the manga, she played a variant of the Yamaha BB bass in the same colors as her Precision Bass (originally in Shell Pink[5]) with a mint green Fender-style pickguard up until the latter part of Volume 3, though the exact model is unknown. In the Bocchi the Rock! Official Guidebook: COMPLEX, it is shown that she uses an MXR M80 Bass D.I.+ as part of her gear. She claims to like techno kayo songs and songs from the hit charts of Saudi Arabia. Nijika believes the latter to be a lie.[6] Her favorite manga is Jujutsu Kaisen; the kanji is different to avoid copyright problems.[7][8] Her hobbies, aside from playing bass and spending all her money on musical instruments, include listening to music in her free time and thrifting for clothes. In episode 4, Ryo is seen looking at a poster featuring herself in a band named The Hamukitasu[note 1] (ざ・はむきたす, Za Hamukitasu). This may have been her previous group before joining Kessoku Band. In the early chapters of the manga, Ryo's face is drawn with a girlish look. However, past volume 1 her face looks more androgynous and remains this way in subsequent volumes

A bright and popular first year of high school. She is in charge of the guitar and vocals of Kessoku Band. She is a cheerful character who likes to interact with people and can talk to her with a smile without hesitation, even when she meets her for the first time. She looks up to Ryo, and her feelings can go too far. She often takes photos and uploads to Isosta.[7] Appearance

Kita has red hair with grown-out bangs and yellow eyes.

In her uniform, she wears a white chocolate sailor uniform with long sleeves, six yellow buttons at the side and red ribbon ties, a short gray pleated skirt, white socks, and maroon shoes. Personality

Kita is a "cheerful character" (陽キャラ, you-kyara) and "party people" (パリピ, paripi), who is sociable and has many friends, as if she calls herself "I love to interact with people", and actively uses social networking service. She has good motor skills and can study safely, but she also thinks she is a mediocre person with no special excellence compared to Ryo. She hates her first name and would strongly prefers to be called by her last name. Her name actually sounds the same as "Came" (きた, Kita) and "Let's go"/"I'm going"/"I'm coming" (行くよ, Ikuyo).[8]

While living a daily life that felt fun but mediocre, when she saw Ryo at a concert performance on the street of the band she used to belong to, she admired her, saying, "I'm jealous of walking on an unusual road." Although she applied as a guitarist to add to the initial members of Kessoku Band, she escaped from the band just before her first concert because she couldn't play the guitar. She later reconciled herself by reuniting with Ryo and revealing her truth. When Hitori persuaded her, she joined Kessoku Band again.

Although she has little experience in playing and is technically immature, as a result of practicing under the guidance of Hitori at the school festival concert, she showed that she had grown up to connect time with ad-lib for Hitori who had a problem with the equipment.

   Initially, she addressed

Hitori as "Gotoh-san", but at the school festival concert, she started using "Hitori-chan" instead.

While Kita is very optimistic and can come across as a bit of a scatterbrain, she's actually far from thoughtless, very well-aware of others and is especially emotionally intelligent. Being genuinely kind and selfless, she tries to support others in the best way she can, especially Bocchi, helping her (along with Nijika) overcoming her massive social anxiety. ADVERTISEMENT

   Plot

   History

Kita has been having a lot of friends due to her friendliness since she was young. She also admired Ryo after seeing her in a street live, and decided to join the new band Ryo formed with

Nijika just to get close to her. However not being able to admit her lack of knowledge of playing guitar, she abruptly quit Kessoku Band.

   Volume 1

Kita got "scouted" by Bocchi, due to Bocchi hearing things about she was on another band and quit. However, Bocchi's anxiety made it reversed when she ended up chasing Bocchi instead before found her in the space below the stairs, playing guitar of her frostiness. Bocchi later invited Kita to her band, in which due to her record of running away, she refused, but asked Bocchi to teach her guitar instead. Bocchi wanted to refuse due to her commitments with STARRY, but Kita wanted to follow her otherwise.

However that's where things got revealed to Kita later on when knowing Bocchi is working in Shimokitazawa and become afraid when the way Bocchi is going is similar to where the old band was and refused to go further - and Nijika catching them up made it worst for her when she get caught running away from her. Kita later admitted about how she was in the wrong, lying and leaving without telling anything.

Kita later joins the crew in STARRY working to serve drinks there and wore the maid dress which somehow kept by

Seika all this time. Originally Nijika asked Bocchi to show her the ropes, but Kita ended up helping Bocchi instead. During work, she also explained the real reason she joined Kessoku Band because of her admiration towards Ryo. Kita ended up rejoining Kessoku Band after the work. Not long after, the rest of the band discovered that the reason why Kita couldn't play guitar in the first place was because the "guitar" she bought and tried to practice with was actually a six-string bass, much to her dismay. Fortunately for her, Ryo bought up the bass (making her penniless once again), and let Kita borrow her guitar indefinitely. Kita and Bocchi has a regular guitar training later on, and revealed about her having an Isosta account and being active at it during the photoshoot. When Seika challenged the band for an audition, they passed decently, Kita came together with Nijika to Bocchi's house to visit her and talk about the band's design on their t-shirts, as well as they get to know

Futari and Jimihen and play with her. They got cursed by Bocchi later on, trying to change her appearance.

Kita was hampered her friends can't come to the band live due to the rainstorm, and her dull MC session doesn't help much with the crowd. However Bocchi stepped up motivating the whole band, which made their live ending well. In the izakaya where they had their celebratory dinner, Kita broke when her first name got mentioned by Ryo due to how punny it is.

   Relationships

   Hitori Gotoh

Hitori Gotoh/Bocchi is a schoolmate of hers, and later in their second year, a classmate.

They first met accidentally when Bocchi was scouting for another member of Kessoku Band. Despite her already running away from the band, Bocchi managed to bring her back to the band (per some surprising turns of events) and eventually picked up guitar lessons with her. From there, she build her trust in Bocchi and the rest of the band, and eventually became close to each other, to the point of first-name calling with her. She also would not hesitate to share her problems with Bocchi and other band members where she could confess everything and seek help.

Kita is considered the closest person to Bocchi, given that their being schoolmates and later classmates means she is able to interact and watch on her more than the other bandmates. She is aware of Bocchi's social problems and tried hard to cover and help Bocchi go through her school days with that. Although sometimes she is the reason why situations Bocchi had become worse, Bocchi has no hard feelings toward her. In fact, despite her shortcomings, Kita helped Bocchi to be better known in their school with them participating in the cultural festival and helped her become closer to her other schoolmates as well, and the reason why Bocchi managed to get close with Tsuguko Sasaki, Kita's classmate since her middle school.

   Nijika Ijichi

Her friendship with Nijika is such of a bandmate, where she first met Nijika when she joins Kessoku Band. Despite Kita being the one putting the band in a pinch due to her suddenly quit from the band, Nijika has no hard feelings toward her and understands her situation well, and has no issue having her back in the band.

Kita and Nijika remain friends in the band since then, with Nijika assisting Kita when necessary and opening her ears to all complaints and confessions from her.

   Ryo Yamada

Kita first knew Ryo when Ryo was still in her old band. Her cool and androgynous aura is what make Kita admire her so much back then, and Kita even went as far as joining Kessoku Band when she heard the news that Ryo joins the band and it still has open positions.

During their first meetings, Kita tend to be head over heels for her, but over time when she managed to get to know her closer to the point that she knows some of Ryo's bad traits as well, her fanaticism towards Ryo subsided. She and Ryo now remain friends in the band and Kita still has her high admiration towards her, but now in a proper manner as a bandmate.

Ryo always assisted Kita when necessary and helped by giving her advice at times, and do not really mind her fanaticism and even her running away from the band.

Her surname is derived from Kensuke Kita. Her birthday, April 21 (4/21) is a reverse reading of his birthday, January 24 (1/24). Despite deriving her name to Kensuke Kita, Kita's role in a band was more related to Masafumi Gotoh, the rhythm guitarist and lead vocalist of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION. Her guitar is a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Junior DC in Pelham Blue finish. Her pedal board consists of a Polytune, a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver, and a Pro Co RAT in that order. She did not appear as one of the main characters until chapter 5. In the anime, she appears instantly in "Lonely Rolling Bocchi". Her Isosta account is @kita0421 in "Jumping Girl(s)". Her first name is revealed in chapter 13 for the manga and episode 8 for the anime. Her infamous "omnidirectional 3rd finger" from the third ending animation in the anime series became popular on fandom. According to the ending animator Haruka Suzuki, Kita was actually raising her index finger, as supposed to the alleged 3rd finger.[9] On the last page of chapter 66, she carries the athlete's foot with her (taken out by Bocchi when she wants to escape due to her athlete's foot). As a result, many fans criticized about she has athlete's foot.[10][11]

Seika used to be a bandsman - a guitarist herself,[10] and her ability was such that the label talked about scouts. She sometimes hits

Nijika and the members of Kessoku Band in her mouth,[11] but in reality, she thinks of Kessoku Band more than anyone else. Although she didn't know that

Bocchi was "guitarhero", she was quick to realize her talent as a guitarist. She can be quite of a tsundere at times, especially when it comes to her little sister Nijika. For example, Nijika claimed that Seika opened Starry for her, even though Seika will never admit that. Also, it was known that she always saved a spot, wanting Kessoku Band to play even though she pretended she did not want them to. She also sleeps with her soft toys despite her age.

Seika is very proud, frank and serious, and can be strict and somewhat harsh on the band members, especially her sister, who calls her a jerk when annoyed by her tsundere mannerisms. Despite this, she is ultimately a kind person who has good intentions, and in the end her strict and aloof nature is, in her opinion, the way to make the band do the best they can.

   Relationship

   Nijika Ijichi

The pair of sisters did not always had a good relationship, as Seika didn't really like her during her teenage years, as Nijika always meddled in her musical activities, but after their mother died, Seika started to take her role as elder sister seriously. From then until now, Seika has always acted as Nijika's guardian.

Being an older sister, Seika would be expected to care for Nijika's wellbeing, but due to Seika being bad in housework and cooking (on top of her busy job as STARRY's manager), Nijika is the one usually doing the chores. When it comes to music, Seika has always a lot to teach to Nijika due to her experience, but her way of conveying advice is sometimes quite poor, causing Nijika to interpret it the wrong way, despite her being usually proven right after.

   Hitori Gotoh

Bocchi relation with Seika is mainly just an employer-employee relationship as Bocchi is in STARRY as a part-time worker, but Seika does care about her wellbeing at times.

Seika also recognizes Bocchi's talent and potential since she saw the band's audition and tried to encourage her to expand her potential, but due to Seika always being bad in communicating her intention nicely (in addition of her initial lukewarm impression by Bocchi), Bocchi always thought about it the wrong way

   Kikuri Hiroi

Seika was a senior of Kikuri in college, and her band is also an inspiration of Kikuri trying out music. However once Kikuri started getting involved in bands, Seika's band broke up, shocked her. Kikuri also described Seika as even more scummy from what she have been now.

They remained close until now, with Kikuri even crashed her house some times to borrow her shower. Seika always reprimanded her of her bad lifestyle and even barred her from performing in STARRY, but still care about her wellbeing otherwise.

Kikuri has long mauve pink hair worn in a side braid tied with a dark brown ribbon and magenta-purple eyes. In the manga, she wears a hanafuda card earring depicting a lotus in both ears.

She wears a simple green dress with a black and white jacket over it and a pair of geta. In the manga, the lower half of her dress has numerous lycoris radiata/spider lily flower patterns.

She also wears black nail polish on both her fingernails and toenails and is often shown with sharp teeth. In the manga, she has a tribal circle-looking tattoo on the back of her right hand. Personality

As a kōhai in the college days of Seika Ijichi, Kikuri is drunk in most of the scenes during the series.[2] For that reason, she is often fined for causing trouble such as breaking the equipment during concerts, and because of that, she drinks more liquor, so although she earns income at her concerts, she is always short of money.[3]

Once when she was drunk in front of the station, she happened to meet

Bocchi who was trying to sell tickets. Despite Bocchi's initial resistance due to her altered state, they eventually bonded, and Kikuri made her perform an improvised session live on the spot where she noticed Bocchi's talents. It was then that a more empathic and mature side of her was first shown. At that time, after visiting the performance of Kessoku Band with a ticket purchased from Bocchi, she frequently appeared in STARRY.[4] However, she still proves herself to be an annoying guest due to her frequent drunkenness.

Unlike today, where she behaves freely, Hiroi had a reclusive, gloomy personality until high school. The reason she started drinking was to suppress the tension of concert performances. She sees a lot of qualities that overlap with her former self in Bocchi and occasionally gives advice as a senpai bandsman. Even so, when she does not consume any alcohol for a long period, her gloomy personality gradually returns depending on her alcohol level. ADVERTISEMENT

   Relationships

   Hitori Gotoh

Kikuri acts as somewhat of a mentor to Bocchi in the music scene. Despite her overwhelmingly irresponsible personality, Kikuri often gives Bocchi surprisingly poignant advice, such as when she attempted to convince Bocchi not to sell her guitar (although Bocchi was lying about selling it regardless), or advising Bocchi to not stress out over her future too much.

Kikuri sees some of herself in Bocchi, as she relates to having had a gloomy personality when she was younger; she also seems to think that Bocchi will become like her at some point in the future, saying in episode 6 that she'll be "super into drinking" when she's older, although Bocchi denies this.

Kikuri consistently acts as one of Bocchi's biggest supporters, attending all of Kessoku Band's performances specifically so that she can cheer on Bocchi, likely noticing that Bocchi needs the support more than the other members of the band.

Kikuri seems to think of herself as an older sister figure to Bocchi, even referring to herself as "Big Sister Kikuri" in episode 11.

Seika was her senior in her college years and is still a close friend, to the point she always heads to Seika's home and STARRY for shower. Despite her reluctance and annoyance due to her behaviour, Seika always let her be and even taken good care of her wellbeing.

Kikuri got into bands because of Seika and her band which she admired, but the band broke up after Kikuri joined the universities light music club.[5]

   Shima Iwashita

Shima was her collegemate (and they also went to the same high school, but Kikuri wasn't close to her until college), and together they founded SICK HACK. She is the one to apologize on Kikuri's behalf when Kikuri done things that damages the band's image, even giving anyone involved gifts or letters of gratitude. While she is uneasy of her drunken lifestyle and always warns her about it (Kikuri always ignores these warnings though), she remains loyal on Kikuri's side.

   Eliza Shimizu

Eliza Shimizu is considerably younger than Kikuri and Shima, but is pretty casual with all her band member. She does not treat her as harshly as Shima does, but she does care about her alcoholic behavior. However, when it interferes with her otaku schedules, she barely gives her any mercy.

   Etymology

While her given name Kikuri is entirely written in hiragana in Japan, it is written in the hanzi form "菊里" in mainland China and Taiwan. The hanzi/kanji notation means "chrysanthemum" (菊, kiku) and "village" (里, ri). Kikuri's surname Hiroi means "broad, wide, spacious" (廣, hiro, an older variant of "広") and "well" (井, i, not in the sense of "good" but "a hole dug on the ground"). Trivia

Her surname is derived from Margaret Hiroi, the current bassist and vocalist of the psychedelic rock band 88Kasyo Junrei. Her bass is a YAMAHA TRB1004J Natural. In Volume 1 of the manga, she was originally shown using a YAMAHA BB-STD[6]. She calls it "Super Ultra Shuten-dōji EX" (スーパーウルトラ酒呑童子EX).[7] Shuten-dōji (酒呑童子), which literally means "sake-drinking boy", is the name of an oni demon from an ancient legend. Hiroi doesn't cut the excess string ends of her bass in the manga. Instead, they are usually either coiled or dangling off the headstock.[8] She has always closed her eyes while she is drunk, but she can open her eyes instantly or twice. Originally, Kikuri's surname was Hirose (廣ひろ瀬せ) in the magazine releases of early chapters (between Chapter 8 and 13 in Volume 1), but later was changed to Hiroi starting Chapter 17. Volume 1 tankōbon release however fixed her surname from the beginning. She uses a pick that resembles bachi (picks for shamisen and biwa). It is based on a custom-made pick the manga author Aki Hamazi owns.[9] Onikoro (おにころ), the sake she always drinks, is a parody of the sake brand Oni-koroshi (鬼ころし, lit. "oni demon killer"). This brand name is used by multiple brewers for multiple kinds of sake, from cheaper ones to top-notch ones. The one she drinks is based on Nihonsakari's Oni-koroshi, which is one of the cheapest sakes the brewer makes.

Aiko's outfit is hugely influenced by Yami Kawaii subculture of Harajuku fashion, which style combines "sickly/death" and "kawaii" themes in its attire, accessories, and color combination.[5]This theme is a derivation of Yume Kawaii subculture which mainly focus on fantasy-like "kawaii" theme. This subculture is originated from Menhera-chan, a character and series name by Ezaki Bisuko which tells about magical girl struggle against the evil which is symbolic of mental health issues. The combination of "despair" elements in established Yume Kawaii theme in the series spark self-expression ideas among youths on mental health issues, which led to the subculture growth.[6] Aiko's pseudonym Poison♡Yami could also considered influenced by said subculture.

Her otaku behaviour is pretty bold as she possesses a lot of knowledge about anime and its tropes, and is always passionate when it comes to such conversations. They remain close however, to the point Seika could still call for her help about Nijika's recording progress.

    Nijika Ijichi

Rina used to be the one mentoring Nijika in drumming, and the one inspired her to be a drummer during her childhood. While seems boyish, Shima is actually a polite person as she tried to apologise to Kessoku Band for Kikuri's misdeeds towards them in addition to greeting them politely and sincerely, as well to others she meet. The only exception to her nice treatment is to Kikuri herself, where she always reprimands her due to her alcoholic and sloppy lifestyle.

However when it comes to performance, she doesn't hold back on her skills, and as commented by Bocchi, "her irregular beats will make anyone lose their minds".

    Trivia

Her name is the same (in both kanji notation and reading) as the famous actress Shima Iwashita. It seems that her name is took from the profile of Kenzo, the drummer of 88Kasyo Junrei, in a twisted way. The actress Shima Iwashita is known for her roles in Yakuza Ladies (極道の妻たち, Gokudō no Onna Tachi) franchise in Japan. Kenzo is described on their official site as "the drummer, gangster and the one who chuckles" (Dr.と極道と含み笑い, Doramu to gokudō to fukumi-warai). FIRST APPEARANCE MANGA Chapter 70 SEIYŪ JAPANESE VA Unknown

Teru Horie (堀ほり江え 照てる, Horie Teru) is the composer of Klimt's Night, where she is known by her stage name, Ame. Klimt's Night is a duo that consists of her and Warabi, which is under Stray Beat, the same label Kessoku Band is a part of.

    ADVERTISEMENT Character Information

    00:00

    41:20

Hailing from a family of well-known musicians, Teru has a talent for music and has composed and sang original songs under her own name during her teenage years. However, having faced accusations of nepotism from people on the internet, she forced herself into hiding. Despite that, she continued to compose songs under the pseudonym Ame and was later joined by Warabi to form Klimt's Night.

She has been a fan of Guitarhero early into the channel's existence, finding emotional support from watching her improve and grow.

After a scandal that nearly made her quit, she agreed to form a band with Nene Ohyama and Elena Hinata, which she will pursue alongside Klimt's Night. Appearance

Teru has medium-length silver hair with bangs that cover up her eyes.

She wears a cornflower blue jacket with a large hoodie and has a pair of yellow headphones wrapped around her neck. A whale pin and a regular hairpin can sometimes be seen attached to her hood. ADVERTISEMENT

    Personality

Teru is considered to be even more of an introvert than Hitori. Having lived as a shut-in, she has very little experience socializing with others. She goes out of her way to avoid direct social interactions, only making exceptions for people she is comfortable with. When talking, she often stutters and her voice frequently cracks as she speaks. When faced with stressful situations, she pulls hard on her hoodie strings so that her hood covers up her entire face tightly. Relationships

    Warabi

Warabi is her partner in Klimt's Night, but Ame barely communicates with Warabi in person outside of one short conversation behind a translucent barrier. Despite these shortcomings, Warabi is still willing to perform the songs Ame composed to the best of her abilities.

    Hitori Gotoh

Bocchi along with other Kessoku Band members first met her during their arranged meeting by Miyako Shiba. Bocchi resonated with her well due to them sharing similar traits, and tried to communicate with her with the conviction Ame would talk better with introverts like her. They later get along well.

Ame is a fan of Guitarhero and managed to find out it is Bocchi's net persona just from her deduction. Because of this and how Bocchi managed to get into an actual band, Ame looks up to Bocchi, despite being older and more experienced in music than her.

    ADVERTISEMENT Etymology

The name Teru means "to shine" (ひとり). Her surname Horie means "canal" (堀江, hori). Her stage name, despite only been stylized in Roman characters, can either literally mean "rain" or "sweets" - which either both explains her clothing style or her role in the duo unit (as Warabi also derived from a sweet) Trivia

Klimt's Night is based on the Japanese music groups YOASOBI and ZUTOMAYO. In reference to YOASOBI, Ame is the counterpart of Ayase, the composer of the unit. Her surname is derived from Atsushi Horie, the vocalist, guitarist, and keyboardist of Straightener. Atsushi is also a member of FULLARMOR, and his solo unit, ent.

She is in charge of the vocal and guitar of the band SIDEROS and is also its leader. Yoyoko has brown hair which is dip-dyed red and tied in pigtails. Her eyes are light red in color. She wears a beret and a black choker. Personality

Yoyoko, despite her external appearance, has been very insecure and has a lousy communication style that makes it difficult for others to deal with her. While she already gained fame since being in SIDEROS that she can perform her own solo live, she still compares other people's achievements against her, feeling that she didn't do enough to surpass them. She likes to go karaoke alone, afraid that people would see and judge her singing. She also tends to measure people's followers by way of venue capacity to determine their popularity, for example, equating

Kita 's Isosta has 15,000 followers as equivalent to a Budokan.

Despite that, she also has been a considerate person, especially towards her sworn rival, Kessoku Band, she is willing to give tips for them to improve and succeed in Mikakunin Riot. ADVERTISEMENT

    Relationship

    Kikuri Hiroi

Yoyoko adores Kikuri Hiroi, which she called Nee-san (big sis) very much to the point she ignored all troubles caused by her and is willing to let her borrow the shower. She always yearns for her recognition in bands, and will be easily jealous with Kikuri if she mentioned other girls, such as Bocchi.

Kikuri in the other hand will always accept Yoyoko's offers and requests (as most of the time she is just too drunk to care), but in serious moments she does care about Yoyoko and her social behavior. The reason why Yoyoko could interact with Bocchi and the Kessoku Band was Kikuri setting them up as opening performance in SICK HACK Christmas Eve live.

    Hitori Gotoh

Bocchi is Yoyoko's self-claimed rival, mainly because Kikuri recognised Bocchi more than Yoyoko that their first meeting was quite awkward. Bocchi's Guitar Hero views in OH!TUBE made her more insecure about Bocchi. However Bocchi does not know about this fact and thought that Yoyoko's rough response to her is just Yoyoko thinking Bocchi is a weird person.

However as they met more often, Yoyoko started to soft up to Bocchi and cooperated together in band practices together with other members, and even credited her presence as her source of motivation during her Mikakunin Riot speech. Despite that Bocchi and Yoyoko remain awkward when talking to each other.

    Nijika Ijichi

Yoyoko started to know Nijika, along with other Kessoku Band members when the band performed in FOLT for SICK HACK Christmas Eve live, and later when they are involved in Mikakunin Riot campaign. As fellow band leaders, they shared their opinions on managing the band, including the activities and their vision, including about their band van. Though, her ego (or just her social awkwardness) restricts them to fully cooperate in band capacity like how Yoyoko did not get to convince Nijika to have Kessoku Band involved in their tour.

Eventually, they become collegemates at Houdai and started to interact more often personally.

The unit band is based in Shimokitazawa's live house STARRY, where

    Nijika 's older sister,

Seika , is a store manager.

Originally the band is formed by Nijika (drummer) and

    Ryo Yamada (bassist), before

Kita joins as guitarist and vocalist. However, Kita abruptly left the band, forcing Nijika to find a replacement, which led her to recruit

Bocchi as the new lead guitarist just before their live performance. In the performance, they only perform instrumental songs due to their still lacking in vocalist. It was known that Ryo named the band after the word "cable tie" in Japanese, and intended as a pun.[1] Kita rejoined the band after Bocchi recruited her back to the group, and solved her lack of skill issue which is the reason she quits.[2]

Kessoku Band performed the first two songs at the live house when auditioned by Seika, the manager, the first time they performed as four, one of them being "Guitar to Kodoku to Aoihoshi".[3] The band performed again in their first live with the audience as a four-member band.[4] The reception was originally dull due to low audience because of bad weather and their sloppy performance of "Guitar to Kodoku to Aoihoshi", but went better as they proceed to their next song, "Ano Band".

The band performed in the cultural festival of Shuka High School, where Bocchi and Kita are students.[5] This is also the first live in big venues with a public audience. While their first song "Wasurete Yaranai" went well, Bocchi's guitar snapped during the performance of "Seiza ni Naretara" but covered her solo by picking up the sake cup on the stage and performing slide guitar, awed the audience. However, the performance abruptly ended as Bocchi's stage dive attempt ended in failure and she was rushed to the infirmary. The incident went viral on the internet and became a hot topic for netizens on various social sites.[6] This also however managed to expose the group further and their live performance in STARRY significantly increased later on.

Another incident occurred after a certain live performance as a music blog writer, Poison♡Yami who attended the concert exposed the identity of the guitarist, Bocchi as guitarhero in OH!TUBE in front of the audience, and criticized the band soon after by accusing them of holding Bocchi's true potential back. While this incident was resolved with the management chasing the writer out, this also leads the band to participate in the competition of Mikakunin Riot.[7]

The band uploaded their reedited performance video in Shuka High in OH!TUBE as a promotion of the band for Mikakunin Riot, where this news reached one of the well-known metal bands, SIDEROS as well.[8] Their vocalist, Yoyoko Ohtsuki managed to sneak in to watch one of their live performance before being caught by

Hiroi who also attended the concert.[9] Later, Kessoku Band and SIDEROS performed in SICK HACK solo live in FOLT as a guest performers, where the bands started to know each other.[10]

Kessoku Band uploaded their first music video along with their new song, "Gloomy Goodbye" in OH!TUBE.[11] It reached 11,000 views after a certain short period.[12] They also started their regular street live performance in Shimokitazawa as a means to promote their new song, which has been getting good reception from the audience.[13]

They managed to qualify for the preliminary demo review stage of Mikakunin Riot and ranked 28th place in the online voting stage of the competition, allowing them to proceed to the live judgment phase held in FOLT.[14][15] However they did not manage to pass the stage.[16]

After the competition, however, they signed a label with Stray Beat with Miyako Shiba effectively becoming their manager from now on.[17] ADVERTISEMENT
