Appearance: Mayu is a tall young adult with waist-length pink hair, which is styled into a single ponytail, and light pink eyes. Her bangs are styled to reach just above her right eye, and on the same side, she has a long sidebang that rests against the side of her face. Mayu wears a set of hairclips that resemble a screwdriver and a wrench, in reference to her talent. She also wears a black choker with a gold cross attachment.

Mayu wears a white button-up shirt with an upright collar, the top buttons undone, rolled-up sleeves, and the ends untucked over her jeans. Over her shirt, she wears a brown toolbelt and a cropped dark green jacket. Her toolbelt contains two pockets, a silver buckle, and an assortment of tools, including a wrench, a screwdriver, and a file. Her toolbelt has two sets of straps that rest over and under her arms, keeping it in place. Underneath her shirt, Mayu wears a black tank top. Mayu also wears a pair of ripped blue jeans, one leg rolled up higher than the other, a black belt with a silver buckle, fingerless brown gloves, and black boots.

Background: Mayu was born into a family of five, with her as the 2nd-oldest of her siblings. While her childhood wasn't remarkable in any way, she was often bullied by her family. The only person she could look up to was her mother, who was the only one who cared about her well-being, despite being criticized, punished unfairly, or shoved around. Still, Mayu mostly tried to keep to herself when it came to her family, as she didn't like it when they interrupted her interests. She took up engineering because, among all the options available to her, she felt passionate about building all sorts of things.

In her teenage years, she began to gain more respect at both her middle school and high school when she started inventing things for herself and others, which awed the crowd around her. She made jet packs, engines, hoverboards, and the like, but what pissed her off frequently was when people ogled her inventions, and because of her hostile personality, she kept many people away. Despite this, she eventually worked for an engineering company when she turned 18, and it wasn't long after that when her inventions were noticed by Hope's Peak Academy, which invited her to attend their Ultimate Talent Program. Mayu accepted it and became the "Ultimate Engineer," hoping she would meet people who weren't complete idiots and would actually work with her instead of getting in her way.

Personality: Mayu is a closed-off woman with a mostly cold and logical attitude. She is a mature, but insecure and shallow person with many introverted traits, but she isn't one to tolerate any nonsense. As such, she may come across as condescending, preferring to call out things as they are in a realistic sense. At times, she may be sarcastic in her responses. She doesn't like socializing, as she thinks the people around her don't understand her at all. She likes to think logically and with numbers, though she can get scary when she's angry or emotional.

Her hostile attitude mostly stems from her childhood and the bullying she received. As a result of her upbringing, she expects the people around her to agree with her, while also staying out of her way. As a defense mechanism, she gives people the cold shoulder whenever they speak about something that doesn't interest her. She can be reprimanding in her logical assessments, but she isn't sadistic; rather, she just doesn't like people at all. Despite her snarkiness, she can be a helpful person when the situation calls for it, even if she seems uncaring or nonchalant.
