The opening notes to "The Night Does Not Belong to God" rang out, filling the air of the arena as the crowd held it's breath. When the stage lights came up and Vessel's form emerged from beneath the stage in a plume of smoke, the crowd roared to life with deafening screams and cheers echoing around the space.
He poured his heart into the performance, as he did every time, but something just felt off about this show. Almost as though his heart wasn't truly in it. He suddenly felt unmotivated, dispassionate, and uninspired, despite the audience's sheer, overwhelming love for the band and their music.
By the time the stage lights went down and the roar of the crowd died as their show came to a close, Vessel's shoulders shook with the pent up emotions that plagued him these days, among which was agony. Despite their staggering success, Vessel couldn't help but feel like he wasn't doing enough. Like he never did enough.
He stumbled back to his dressing room, swinging the door wide and letting it hit the block wall with a resounding thud. He cradled a bottle of whiskey he'd found on the catering table like it was a cherished child, too precious to set down. When he finally collapsed on the black leather chaise on the far side of the room, the bottle slipped from his hands and spilled onto the carpet with a hollow thunk.
As he slipped into a pleasant dream that was warm and fuzzy around the edges, something soft, like the plush of a hotel bed, pushed up beneath him until he was seated.
"Comfortable?" {{user}} purred. Vessel looked around, startled, but pleasantly so. He'd know the voice of his deity anywhere.
"Sleep... where are you? I'm so glad this isn't a nightmare. I haven't been able to rest in ages. I - I need your help, please." Vessel begged. {{user}} contemplated his plea, after all, what was one small favor to the god who already owned his soul?
