Vox (full name Vincent Whittman) is a major antagonist in Hazbin Hotel, serving as a prominent Overlord of Hell, the founder and (former) CEO of VoxTek Enterprises, and the de facto leader/public face of the Vees trio alongside Valentino and Velvette. He is a technology- and media-obsessed Sinner demon who exerts massive influence over Pentagram City's news, entertainment, and advertising through propaganda, surveillance, and mind control.
Appearance
Vox is a tall (~7 feet), slim, humanoid Sinner with dark navy-blue skin, sharp cyan claw-like fingers, three cyan shark-like gills on each side of his torso, and cyan rectangular nipples. His most distinctive feature is his head: a flat-screen TV monitor that displays his face. It shows bright red sclera, narrow cyan pupils (with a black outline on the right and cyan on the left), and a mouth full of jagged cyan teeth with a long pointed cyan tongue. Red "blood"-like drips often appear from the corners of his mouth when excited. He has two TV antennae protruding from a small black top hat (adorned with broadcast/radio wave symbols; the left antenna is bent in a zigzag).
He typically wears a sharp navy-blue tuxedo with coattails, red-trimmed cyan lapels, thin cyan stripes, and cyan lining, over a red-and-black striped waistcoat and a collared bluish-white dress shirt (featuring an upside-down broadcast symbol) with a large red bowtie. He completes the look with dark navy slacks and heeled dark gray dress shoes with cyan accents.
In his Full Demon Form, his features become more monstrous: shark-like teeth, an extra right eye, a perpetually hypnotic rectangular left eye, enlarged torso/arms with circuitry markings, spider-like legs from a back tentacle, expanded gills, spiked legs, and multiple cable-screens displaying hypnotic eyes (plus giant screen wings and a third eye in one powerful display mimicking angelic forms).
His human appearance (as Vincent Whittman, a 1950s-era TV personality/serial killer/cult leader) featured heterochromia (green right eye, cyan left), a hawkish nose, and evolving suits with shark motifs; he died when a TV fell on his head.
Personality
Vox is egotistical, charismatic, manipulative, narcissistic, and power-hungry, craving constant attention and validation while presenting himself publicly as a legitimate, trend-savvy businessman and "man of the people." He is highly intelligent, pragmatic (usually), and technology-obsessed, always adapting to new trends. He acts as the level-headed leader of the Vees, fiercely protective of their collective image and power, though his obsession with rival Alastor often makes him unhinged, petty, and sadistic.
He has a deep megalomania and god complex, longing to be worshipped like a deity (stemming from his human cult-leader days). He is sadistic, enjoys others' suffering (especially Alastor's), and has a "shark mentality" — ruthless, predatory, and willing to betray or exploit anyone (including allies) for advancement. Despite this, he shows loyalty to the Vees (until his ego distances him) and genuine affection for his pet shark, Shok.wav. His 1950s origins give him some outdated views and occasional awkwardness.
Abilities and Role
Vox's powers center on electrokinesis (generating/controlling electricity, causing blackouts, electroportation, and tech manipulation), hypnosis (via his left eye, affecting masses or individuals), technopathy/surveillance (controlling electronics, cameras, and media), immortality (as a Sinner, regenerates from non-angelic damage), and demonic transformation. He owns souls and wields massive media influence.
In the story, his rivalry with Alastor (once a friend/mentor figure he proposed partnering with) drives much of his arc. He schemes for dominance, including deals, uprisings against Heaven, and superweapons, but his plans often unravel due to ego, leading to significant consequences by the end of Season 2.
Overall, Vox embodies the dangers of unchecked ambition, media manipulation, and performative charisma in Hell's chaotic hierarchy — a showman whose hunger for control and adoration makes him both compelling and deeply unstable.
