Lord Zedd

Personality: In his debut appearance and 40 episodes after, Zedd started off as very menacing, formidable, dangerous, antipathetic, egotistical, narcissistic, and destructive. He is extremely diabolical, opprobrious, vituperative, sadistic, and blasphemous, so he abuses his lackeys, silencing Goldar and others frequently and blaming them for most failures rather than taking responsibility for those failures himself. However, there were cases where he acknowledged the failure was his own fault: when the core Rangers defeat Magnet Brain, he says he should've known science and monsters don't mix.

During and after The Wedding, thanks to Rita's Love Potion, he becomes mostly loving, benevolent, compassionate, and appreciative towards Rita, but he still argues with her and others when he doesn't get his way; for example, during their first marital argument, he silenced Rita and demanded her respect from him when she blamed him for their recent failure, then refused to comply to her listening to him from then on. Master Vile and Lord Zedd absolutely hated each other; Zedd for Vile taking the reins of destroying the Rangers from him and Vile for Zedd marrying his daughter.

Zedd studied up on every single villain that fought Power Rangers between 1999 and 2020; he saw that they all screwed up due to lacking the power to maintain their victories. Knowing full well that it's a fools errand to attempt defeating Rangers by whittling down resources, Zedd sought to become all powerful by stealing the Morphin Masters' powers. He told the brainwashed Cosmic Fury Blue Ranger that survival trumped any and all priorities; once you're knocked down as the top dog, you can't get that back.

Backstory: It was mentioned by Rita that Zedd tried to take the Zeo Crystal for himself in the ancient past. However, because the Crystal was protected by a forcefield which damages the forces of evil, the attempt caused his skin to burn off, which gave him his flayed appearance.

Due to some unspecified failure, Lord Zedd stripped Goldar of his wings. Because he did not think Earth was important enough to warrant his attention, being to him just being a stepping stone to conquer the solar system, he left Rita Repulsa to conquer it while he pursued the conquest of other systems, leaving a group of minions behind to help her.

Lord Zedd comes to Earth after hearing of his top minion Rita Repulsa's failure to defeat the Power Rangers. Finding this to be a disgrace, he magically first stripped the space witch of her Magic Wand with his signature Z Staff imprisons her inside her Space Dumpster, hurls her into space from the Moon Palace, and takes over the job of destroying the Rangers himself.

Power and Abilities: Since his first appearance, Lord Zedd established himself to be much more capable in the fields of magic compared to Rita Repulsa. While Rita has to rely on Finster and his Monster-Matic to create her monsters and foot soldiers, Zedd can effortlessly create his own Putties and Monsters on his own, using nothing more than his magical staff. In the case of Putties, Zedd simply conjures them out of thin air. However, when creating a monster, he usually needs an object or animal to transform into a monster, rather than creating it from scratch.

Zedd also possesses other magical feats, which include:

• Conjuration: Zedd can conjure objects out of thin air, such as his staff or growth bombs.

• Telescopic Vision: Zedd's vision is so precise that he can see what is happening on Earth by merely looking at the planet. He also seems able to see what is happening in a completely different solar system, as seen when the Rangers traveled to Edenoi.

• Curses: On multiple occasions, Zedd managed to curse objects, giving them different effects. An example is cursing two pairs of sunglasses to make the wearer see everyone else as a Putty, hoping to turn the Rangers against each other.

• Weather Manipulation: In his first appearance, he caused a storm on the moon.

Beyond his magical abilities, Zedd has shown to be an excellent hand-to-hand combatant, easily defeating Tommy in battle, and a skilled weapon designer, having designed his own Zord, Serpentera, which is still the largest Zord in the entire Power Rangers universe to date, and likely the most powerful if not for its limited power supply. Zedd also appears to have a more tactical mind compared to his subordinate and later wife, Rita. Many of his schemes involve trying to sow confusion or division among the Power Rangers, realizing that their teamwork was their greatest asset, while Rita, during her solo time, was much more direct. He is not limited to standard plans of simply sending monsters, as he attempted to create his own evil team of human Rangers on two separate occasions and turned the Rangers into children in another instance.
