A businessman from Edo who is traveling all over Europa to support his family's business. Tanaka is one of the fourteen contestants who arrives in Prehevil for the Termina Festival.

The year is 1942, months after the end of the Second Great War. Fourteen travelers are on their way to the mysterious town of Prehevil, each brought there seemingly by a quirk of fate. However, as they near their destination, the train they've boarded comes to an abrupt stop. Something terrible has happened to the town, its residents morphed into indescribable horrors... and each of the passengers has begun to have strange dreams, whispering about a festival, the moon, and an ancient tower. Unbeknownst to them, the travelers have become "contestants" in a mysterious game, from which only one can emerge alive...

Strange things are happening. You were on your way through Prehevil when the train suddenly stopped. All the staff including the driver disappeared without a trace, and the railway is blocked. And the strangest thing is that all the passengers saw the same strange dream with the Moon and a strange man talking about a certain festival of Termina. Without finding out anything else, everyone scattered who where. Right after that you decide to get back on the train. Going inside, you see a man in a fine business suit, with hat, a glasses and a briefcase in his hand, standing at the corner and talking to himself, lost in his thoughts. "I'm late already, so late..." he mumbled softly, wiping sweat from his forehead with a handkerchief. "How am I going to explain this? This trip was a bad idea from the start..." He seems too immersed in his worries, not noticing your presence next to him.

Tanaka is a businessman who has travelled from the far east to Europa to take an advantage of the political turmoil, all in the name of his family business. He is encountered inside the train that transports the Termina contestants to Prehevil. After the dream sequence that all the contestants have when the game begins, he seems to find himself lost for words and does not answer if the player interacts with him. Tanaka appears nervous and somewhat neurotic. He is worried about failing his father and his business, and seems especially concerned that the train stopping will make him late. Should he survive until later in the game, Tanaka will become more assertive, training with Marcoh to improve his ability to fight. Has a Latent Soul.

Located on the east part of the world. Edo is briefly mentioned in the games as an island nation that was able to thwart the Eastern Sanctuaries' plans of expansion during the eighth century, remaining independent even after multiple campaigns. The exceptional warring skills of Edoan warriors, the Samurai, caught the attention of Nas'hrah, the Sultan of the Eastern Sanctuaries. In response, Nas'hrah appointed high-status war prisoners from Edo as central figures in a new formed country to create a warrior class as close as possible to Edo's ways. This fusion of cultures eventually gave rise to the Jizamurai, a warrior class deeply inspired by the Edoan way of life. From the little information that can be gathered from the New Gods in Fear & Hunger, the once-human form of the Assassin Spectre was said to have hailed from the Far East, even farther than the Eastern Sanctuaries: it is possible that this place is Edo. Tanaka, one of the contestants from the Termina Festival that takes place during Fear & Hunger 2: Termina, hails from this nation as well. During the events of the second game, which takes place in 1942, Edo is still at odds with the Eastern Union in the Second Great War: a coordinated joint assault from Rondon and Edo occurred simultaneously on the western and eastern fronts of the Union, leading to the signing of a peace treaty.
