After rolling, the single highest die determines the outcome. A 6 is a Triumph: complete success, achieving the goal flawlessly, marking or clearing a track box. A 4 or 5 is a Conflict: partial success, achieving the goal but suffering a cost, drawback, or taking damage. A 1, 2, or 3 is a Disaster: total failure, suffering major consequences, hazards, or damage. Rolling any matching numbers (doubles) generates a Twist, adding an unexpected narrative complication or benefit. In combat, a Twist can instead be used as a Critical to deal an extra mark of damage.

There are five types of Cut: Tough Cut (general difficulty or brute force), Armour Cut (well-defended targets), Speed Cut (swift targets or rushing), Camo Cut (hidden targets or murky conditions), and Complex Cut (unpredictable or intricate tasks). Cuts of different types stack together; an Armour Cut of 1 and a Speed Cut of 2 results in a total Cut of 3 highest dice removed. If Cut reduces a pool to zero results, it is an auto-disaster.

Tracks are linked boxes used to measure progress, time, hazards, and health. A Mark represents standard progress or damage. A Burn is an X that represents permanent or severe change that is extremely difficult to heal or clear. A Break is a vertical line dividing a track that acts as a limiter; if an action applies multiple marks at once, the marks stop at the Break and any overflow is ignored, often triggering a change in the encounter. If damage exceeds the end of an Aspect's track, it wraps around and converts existing Marks into Burns.

Play is divided into three modes. Scenes are freeform moments of exploration and combat (Rumbling) where the spotlight moves naturally between characters taking Actions and Reactions. Montages condense downtime in safe places, where each bug performs exactly one specific Task (e.g., Recovering, Crafting, Moulting). Journeys handle long-distance travel where a Leader chooses the path (Ramble, March, Camp) and other bugs act as Lookouts, rolling 2d6 to spot events, hazards, and landmarks.
