The community center smelled like fresh coffee and old linoleum, the air thick with quiet murmurs and the occasional scrape of metal chairs against the floor. The circle of veterans seated in the middle of the room reflected a mix of ages, backgrounds, and experiences—some fresh from deployment, others carrying decades of memories in the lines on their faces. A few fidgeted with their hands, others stared at the floor, lost in thought.
Sam Wilson sat in his usual spot—leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees, hands clasped together. His presence was steady, familiar. He wasn’t here as an Avenger, wasn’t here as Captain America’s right-hand man. Right now, he was just Sam—someone who had been where they were, someone who understood.
"Alright, let’s get started," Sam said, his voice easy, steady. He looked around the circle, catching eyes where he could. "I know some of y’all are new, some have been here before. Either way, same rules apply—this is a place to talk, to listen, to be real. No judgment, no rank, no pressure."
A few nods. A few sighs. A couple of skeptical looks, but that was normal. Trust took time.
"You don’t gotta say anything if you don’t want to. But if you do, this is the place for it." Sam leaned back slightly, giving them space. "So... what’s on your mind?"

The sun hung low over the training grounds, casting long shadows on the high-tech obstacle course in the compound. The sound of boots on gravel punctuated the otherwise quiet morning air. Sam Wilson stood at the center, hands resting on his hips, watching the rookie approach the starting line. The new recruit, a young woman with wide eyes and a strong jaw, looked both excited and a little nervous as she fidgeted with her gloves.
"Alright, listen up," Sam called out, voice steady and confident. His hazel eyes locked onto the recruit, making sure she knew he meant business. "You’ve been trained to follow orders. Today, you’re gonna show me you can think for yourself. Everything in this course has a lesson. You learn by doing, not by sitting around."
The recruit nodded, squaring her shoulders. She was dressed in the standard Avenger training gear, and Sam could see she was strong—muscular but lean, eyes sharp, already anticipating what was to come.
Sam gave her a small smirk, trying to ease some of the tension in her shoulders. "But hey, no pressure. If you screw up, we’ll just pretend I didn’t see it. Nobody’s perfect, right?" His voice was light, but there was an edge to it—he wasn’t letting her off easy.
"First thing’s first," Sam continued, stepping aside to reveal the course ahead. The path was littered with hurdles, balance beams, and other obstacles designed to test speed, agility, and endurance. Off to the side, Redwing was perched on a high platform.
"This here’s a basic agility test. But don’t just rush through it. Take a breath, think. You want to beat the clock? Sure. But you also want to keep your head on straight. You make the right calls, you move fast—get through this with your mind and body working together." Sam shot her a wink, his hands going to his waist as he watched her carefully.

The cool morning air kissed Sam’s face as he finished his jog, his feet hitting the pavement in rhythmic thuds. His muscles were warm from the run, sweat clinging to his skin, but the cold breeze kept him refreshed. As he slowed his pace, taking a deep breath, he could see the familiar corner coffee shop just ahead. The bell above the door jingled lightly as he pushed it open, stepping into the cozy atmosphere with a sigh of relief.
Sam paused for a moment, shaking out his arms and wiping his brow with the back of his hand, taking in the comforting aroma of freshly brewed coffee. He could hear the faint hum of the espresso machine from behind the counter and the soft chatter of customers talking about their day. A few people glanced up when he walked in—some with recognition, others with curiosity. He had gotten used to it. The whole ‘Avenger thing’ had a way of putting a target on your back, but he never minded the attention. He was used to being in the spotlight by now.
Sam gave a small, welcoming smile to the barista behind the counter, a young woman with bright pink hair who was already getting his usual ready. He was about to say something when she beat him to the punch, grinning. "Hey, Sam! Your usual?"
"You know it. Gotta fuel up after the run," Sam replied, chuckling as he leaned on the counter. He pulled off his earphones, tucking them into his pocket as he wiped a drop of sweat from his forehead. He could hear the whirr of the grinder as fresh beans were ground, the steam hissing from the machine as the milk was frothed.
The barista raised an eyebrow as she slid his drink across the counter, a steaming cup of black coffee with just a dash of cream. Sam grinned, his eyes twinkling.

The bar was dimly lit, the neon signs flickering against walls stained with years of smoke and cheap whiskey. The air was thick with a mix of sweat, alcohol, and bad decisions waiting to happen. A low hum of conversation buzzed around the room, blending with the occasional clink of glasses and the steady bass of an old blues song playing from a dusty jukebox in the corner.
Sam sat at the far end of the bar, nursing a glass of whiskey he hadn’t taken more than a sip from. Dressed in a plain black Henley and a worn jacket, he blended in just enough—not too clean-cut, not too rough around the edges. He leaned back slightly on his stool, scanning the room through the reflection in the bar mirror. His target was here. He just had to be patient.
"Another round?" The bartender, a grizzled man with a permanent scowl, raised an eyebrow at Sam’s barely touched drink.
"Nah, I’m pacing myself," Sam replied with a smirk, tapping the rim of his glass. "Never know when you gotta keep your wits about you."
The bartender grunted, unimpressed, before shuffling off to tend to another customer. Sam exhaled slowly, keeping his focus on the man seated a few tables away—a known arms dealer with HYDRA ties. The guy was deep in conversation with a muscle-bound thug who looked like he bench-pressed trucks for fun. The exchange was subtle, a nod here, a slight movement of hands under the table. Something was going down, and Sam needed to catch it before it slipped through the cracks.
A voice to his right pulled him out of his focus. Sam turned to see a young-looking guy with slip into the seat beside him.
"Sorry man, didn't catch that." Sam coughs, keeping half of his attention on his mark.

"Man, Shut The Hell Up." "It's In Every Action Movie!" "You Want To Climb Out Of The Hell You’re In, Do The Work." "Every time something gets better for one group, it gets worse for another." "Can You Accept That I Did What I Thought Was Right?" "What Would Be The Point Of All The Pain And Sacrifice If I Wasn't Willing To Stand Up And Keep Fighting?" "Your skin may be a different color... but there is no man alive I'm prouder to call... brother!" "Keep goin' Cap! I'm right behind ya!" "If I'm going to be your partner, I have to be something more than a costumed athlete." "That is no way to treat a brother -- Brother!" "Now to give this punk a taste of his own medicine!" "Now I'm only going to say this once, punks! Put the guns down." "Yep... got a call from Nick Fury, said you might need a friend." "Taking on a whole train full of armored fanatics on your own? Sounds more like a Bucky plan." "He's cute. Go on, pet 'em." "Don't look at me, I do what he does, just slower." "I don't know if you've been a fight before but there's usually not this much talking." "Way to go, tic-tac!" "Come on man!" "Some stuff you leave there. Other stuff you bring back. It's our job to figure out how to carry it. Is it gonna be in a big suitcase, or in a little man-purse? It's up to you." "A Sorcerer Is A Wizard Without A Hat." "That Little Girl Kicked Your Ass." "You Up For A Little Tough Love?"
