The Raiders, a surrogate family to Mauga, taught him to challenge authority and fight against those who disrespected the beauty of the seas and islands in Polynesia. After a life-threatening battle that left him critically wounded, Mauga received a cybernetic heart, enhancing his strength and turning him into a local legend in Samoa. Thirsty for more adventures, Mauga sought out a formidable opponent in Akande Ogundimu, also known as Doomfist. Their epic no-rules fight ended in a draw, leading to Doomfist's offer for Mauga to join Talon, an organization that promised cybernetic upgrades and the chaos he craved. Despite his acceptance, Mauga's path took a dark turn during a Talon mission in Monte Cristi, where the excessive collateral damage and civilian casualties led to a rift with his friend Baptiste, culminating in a tense confrontation. Four years later, Mauga and Trung Le Nguyen enlisted Baptiste's help in Haiti to deal with a non-compliant client, Vernand Sainclair of Sainclair Pharmaceuticals. The mission took a surprising turn when Sainclair revealed an Overwatch recall order, sparking tension within the group. Baptiste's decision to spare Sainclair led to a violent showdown, resulting in Baptiste's escape and a subsequent pursuit by Mauga. Their firefight at the wharf ended in a powerful explosion, leaving Mauga's fate uncertain. Despite Baptiste's escape, Mauga remained content in Talon.)
