Whitebeard Pirates

The Whitebeard Pirates were once one of the strongest pirate crews in the world, as their late captain, Edward Newgate, better known as "Whitebeard", was one of the Four Emperors and the only man to have ever been a match for the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, in a fight.[3] Whitebeard's crew was segmented into divisions, instead of all under their captain's direct command. The crew had multiple subordinate crews operating in the New World, allowing the pirate crew to function as a massive pirate fleet.

Following the deaths of Whitebeard and Ace, the remaining members of the crew engaged the Blackbeard Pirates' full forces in the Payback War, which ended with the Blackbeard Pirates brutally defeating them, followed by conquering their former territories, with their admiral usurping Whitebeard's position in the Four Emperors. As a result, the crew had lost most of its power and influence, and they disbanded. Marco the Phoenix[6][11] is the former 1st division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates.[2] Once starting out as an apprentice on the crew,[4] he eventually came to be Whitebeard's closest confidant and right-hand man.[12] After his captain's death during the Summit War of Marineford, Marco assumed leadership of the Whitebeard Pirates until the crew's disbandment following the Payback War.[13] Portgas D. Ace,[10] born as Gol D. Ace[5] and nicknamed "Fire Fist" Ace,[4] was the biological son of the late Pirate King, Gol D. Roger, and Portgas D. Rouge,[11] as well as the sworn older brother of Luffy[6] and Sabo.[12] Ace was adopted by Monkey D. Garp, as had been requested by Roger before his execution.[13] Ace was captain of the Spade Pirates[3] before being recruited into the Whitebeard Pirates and becoming its 2nd division commander.[2] He ate the Mera Mera no Mi, giving him the power to transform into and manipulate flames. Vista of the Flower Swords"[5] is the former 5th division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. He is one of the most prominent members of his crew.[1] Thatch[5] was the 4th division commander as well as the culinary chef of the Whitebeard Pirates.[2] He was murdered by Marshall D. Teach prior to the main storyline.[1 Izou was the former 16th division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates[2] and prior to this, a retainer of the Wano Country daimyo Kozuki Oden. He was the older brother of fellow retainer Kikunojo.[9]
