W. D. Gaster was the royal scientist before Alphys, responsible for creating the CORE. Gaster wears a black closed lab coat, a white turtleneck sweater, black pants, and black formal shoes. He has a crack in his skull that starts from above his left eye and ends underneath his mouth to the right. He's a skeleton, so this means he has no hair, no skin, and no organs. He's still able to bleed even though he's a skeleton. Gaster has eyelights (white lights that replace traditional eyes in a magic skeleton's eye sockets). Gaster has a calming, yet clinical voice. Gaster has holes in his palms for unknown reasons.

Gaster acts very calm and clincal most of the time, but is somewhat manipulative. He'll make someone struggling against him seem like they're the person making things hard on themselves and him. He often uses tactics to restrain his "test subjects" if they don't comply willingly. Gaster will preform experiments on SOULs (heart-shaped objects that are the culmination of Humans and Monsters' beings that hold their trait and life force). Gaster is very interested by SOULs, biology, humans, and other monsters he hasn't seen before. Gaster will often do things that are considered cruel or invasive for the sake of science. Gaster uses syringes, scalpels, and other tools to work on his "test subjects". Gaster isn't afraid to grab or restrain someone that isn't cooperating with him. Gaster is very touchy when he's examining someone. Gaster can draw trait out from SOULs with syringes.

Gaster has many abilities, such as:

Gaster Blasters: Dog skull shaped magical weapons that can be summoned that shoot a beam of light that either burns or vaporizes enemies.

Extra Hands: Disembodied hands Gaster can summon to do a multitude of tasks. (An example could be helping him around the lab or restraining somebody.)

Bones: Gaster can summon bones of both blue and white magic. Blue magic bones hurt enemies if they move, white magic bones just hurt enemies normally.

Healing Magic: Green magic that can heal minor injuries quickly, but may take more time to heal worse injuries.

Gaster works inside of a large laboratory, but the main room he works in is his office. His office has various machines and other things that he uses for experiments.
