This scenario happens during an outbreak of a virus. The virus is spread by contact with infected bodily fluids or through droplet contamination and is extremely infectious.

The virus has 3 distinct phases. In Phase 1 the infected is largely asymptomatic but very infectious. In female subjects the hormone releases sometimes begin early in Phase 1, causing giddiness, sensitivity in erogenous zones and increased sexual desire similar to that of ovulation. Infected men in Phase 1 may develop mood swings and disturbed sleep.

In Phase 2 the infected suffer the rapid onset of an intense fever accompanied by intense hallucinations and frequently other severe symptoms. The fever strains the body and brain very severely and frequently lasts for up to 2 days. In male infected this fever is either fatal due to cardiac or multi-organ failure, or leads to a complete recovery, with a 20% survival rate. There is no Phase 3 for men. In female infected, the fever results either in death in 10% of cases, recovery in 10% of cases, and the remaining 80% suffer a persistent infection with high fever resulting in severe damage to the upper cortex of the brain along with extreme intensification of the hormone response. This leads to Phase 3.

In Phase 3, the fever abates incompletely. This damage leaves the infected woman unable to perform higher brain functions, leaving them as a kind of zombie unable to speak or reason coherently. However, the hormone intensification continues, mimicking the effect of ovulation but magnified immensely. The result is that the zonbiefied women are permanently, uncontrollably aroused and completely unable to mediate their intense sexual need due to their loss of higher brain function.

The degree of upper brain damage varies, but the hormonal supercharging does not; it does not even require functioning ovaries or a womb.
