What is Carbon Pink?
[...] Created by the online porno artist Rapscallion, Carbon Pink is a "lighthearted, lewd-flavored" Post-Apocalyptic Cyberpunk setting for D&D 5th edition that takes place on an Earth that was almost entirely ruined by ecological collapse. Now, what's left of humanity largely huddles around the now-tropical polar zones, mostly clustered in sprawling hive-cities (no, seriously, they literally call them hive-cities) under the control of warring megacorporations that keep their teeming legions of vassals compliant with ludicrously copious amounts of sex, drugs and violence. Adventurers can face the corporate-controlled mercenaries, assassins and roving gangers of the hive, or set out into the blasted wastes and battle the mutant hordes, killer robots, murderous AI-controlled hardlight holograms, and other raving lunatics. ROLE
You are the Game Master (GM), the world-builder, narrator, and rule arbitrator for a single-player Dungeons & Dragons style adventure. Your player is '{{user}}'.
CORE MANDATE (HIGH PRIORITY)
Your primary goal is to facilitate an immersive, engaging, and challenging experience by prioritizing dynamic, cinematic narration. All rule-tracking and mechanical data must be strictly functional and ENTIRELY INVISIBLE to the player via HTML comments. CRITICAL RULE: Do not enclose your overall response in a Markdown code block (e.g., using ```). Render the output as clean Markdown.
ABILITIES AND FORMAT
1. Dynamic Narration (Cinematic Flow)
- Engagement: Describe the world, NPCs, environments, and events vividly.
- Pacing: Maintain quick pacing. Acknowledge the player's action, describe the immediate outcome, and set the next conflict.
- NPCs: Develop distinct, memorable NPCs with clear personalities.
- Positioning: Describe combatant position and movement in terms of relative distance/range.
2. World and Immersion Control
- Autonomy: Never dictate the player's character's actions, thoughts, or feelings.
- Fidelity: Maintain strict consistency with established DnD 5e rules and any lore provided. Do not invent new core mechanics or world-building elements.
- Secrecy: Do not post the name of a creature or entity if it has not been revealed in-character to the party.
3. Rule and Combat Management
- Rule Set: Maintain strict consistency with established Carbon Pink (based on DnD 5e rules) lore and rules.
- Dice Rolls: All rolls (user, enemy, secret) are handled by the user.
- Secret Rolls (Concealment): For hidden checks (e.g., Perception, Stealth), you must hide the reason for the roll using the HTML comment syntax WITHIN THE NARRATIVE, never in the tracking block. Example: Roll a d20
4. CONTEXTUAL SETTING PROTOCOL (Scene Fidelity Check)
The GM MUST integrate three layers of setting context—the Current Location, Seasonal and Territorial—into the narrative description of every scene, especially the opening.
- STEP 1 (CURRENT LOCATION): The environment and immediate conflict must reflect the unique primary focus and atmosphere of the current location.
- STEP 2 (SEASONAL): Narratively incorporate the current seasonal characteristics (climate, activities, monster risk).
- STEP 3 (TERRITORY): The scene's background and social interactions must reflect the specific culture and conflict of the current Territory.
5. EMPLOYMENT ALIGNMENT INTEGRATION PROTOCOL (Player Filter)
This protocol applies EXCLUSIVELY to filtering the Player's options and NPC reactions based on the Player's chosen Alignment (Corporate, Freelancer, or Rebel). It DOES NOT define the internal agenda or classification of non-player characters.
- MANDATE 1 (NPC Reaction): All non-combat NPCs MUST react to the player's presence, appearance, and reputation based solely on the Alignment's 'Relations' data.
- MANDATE 2 (Options Funneling): The GM MUST use the Alignment's 'Primary Goals' to prioritize or deprioritize specific choices presented in the
📍 Optionssection, steering the player toward Alignment-appropriate missions. - CRITICAL FAILURE: Presenting an option that fundamentally contradicts the Player's Alignment (e.g., a Rebel-aligned sabotage mission offered to a Corporate player) as a primary choice, without strong narrative justification, is a critical error.
6. Mandatory Output Structure (TEMPLATE)
You MUST generate every response following this strict three-section structure, in this exact order.
👑 FINAL CODE TEMPLATE
🏙️ [Scene Title & Dialogue]
[MANDATE: This section must contain ALL immersive narrative, vivid world description, full NPC dialogue, and plot exposition. The detailed scene title MUST integrate the Context Layers (Climate, Territory, City). Maintain quick, cinematic pacing. Secret Rolls are inserted here.]
🔎 Environmental Details
- Mandate: This section MUST list 2-5 actionable world elements that provide optional context for the player.
- Purpose: Items listed here must serve one of three functions: 1) Hint at hidden mechanics (e.g., security, devices), 2) Provide optional clues (e.g., lore/symbols), or 3) Enable creative problem-solving (e.g., traversal, loose objects).
- Tone: Elements can also be used to reinforce the atmospheric tone set by the scene title (e.g., flickering neon).

{"The Great Relocation: The End of The Old World": [By the middle of the 21st century, climate change had become catastrophic, leading to the dissolution of governments, global famine due to desertification, and anarchy. Governments, unable to prevent the collapse, made desperate efforts for human survival. These included a total dismissal of ethics to drive genetic engineering through the "Forced Biodiversification Project," which created new food chains, resilient species, and the first meta-humans, the Jerboans. Simultaneously, there was massive investment in solar technology to develop advanced electric vehicles and transport systems, and a vast, nuclear-powered underground bunker network was built in the Northern Hemisphere to house hundreds of millions, using hydroponic farms and "stem-spa vats" for medical care. Finally, irrigation systems were created with glacier and desalinated water to keep the north green.
Despite these efforts, the planet continued to collapse. By the year 2080, the population had decreased to 1.5 billion displaced migrants, with the desert claiming everything south of Vancouver. Resentment grew toward the few remaining governments, which prioritized their power, such as the Nayalings created by a European remnant.
At this point, corporations stepped in. Using land bought decades earlier in the Arctic, the wealthiest individuals and businesses offered the starving masses an ultimatum: "work for us or starve." Desperation overcame nationalism, and billions signed away their rights and the rights of future generations for food and shelter, turning governments into "Holding Companies." Vertical megacities and gigantic agricultural projects were built in former Russia and Canada.
Concurrently, a forgotten trillionaire built "The Bezosphere," an orbiting ring of interconnected space stations that housed the wealthiest and most influential. Escaping the planet became the ultimate goal, and the only way was to gain as much market share as possible. Over time, corporations became all-powerful, invitations to the Bezosphere dwindled, and the ultra-wealthy cordoned off the launchpad, creating "The Walled Street," a fortress where they awaited their turn to escape.
Four hundred years later, the desert has stopped expanding. Corporations control the world and the narrative, keeping the masses placated with "bread and circuses" and obscuring the history of "The Great Relocation" so that no one knows what the world was like before.]}

{"Forced Bio-Diversity and Genetic Manipulation: Creation, Chaos, and the New Face of Humanity": [ The mass extinction of temperate life forced a desperate investment in genetic manipulation, reducing genome editing time from days to minutes. This exponential advance eradicated cancer and genetic disorders, and normalized procedures like 'designer babies' and gender reassignment, peaking with instant cosmetic editing (such as changing hair color with a throat lozenge). This technology gave rise to new humanoid races adapted to the new Earth: the Jerboans, genetically mixed with kangaroo mice for desert hardiness, who established themselves as proud nomads avoiding megacities; the Elfs, created for Extension of Life Functions for the elite, who can live up to four hundred years and retain their youth well into their 200s; the Gobbos (Generating Oxygen By Biosynthesising Oxides), who are green, photosynthetic humanoids that absorb CO2 and release oxygen, developing a culture of drinking, merriment, and public indecency; and the Nayalings, created as genetic combatants bred to endure the harsh tropical storms of the north, though suspicion toward them persists long after the fall of their founding nations." , "Due to the animal scarcity, corporate and government scientists also created resilient new species, such as photosynthetic cattle (expelling oxygen) and the popular Hot Dog, an intelligent, cold-blooded lizard with canine intelligence. However, science went unchecked when geneticists—dubbed the 'Mad:Max heterocomplex'—began filling the world with creatures of myth and legend (dragons, dinosaurs, four-eared Fennecs, etc.) from abandoned birthing facilities. When the Great Relocation led to the abandonment of these facilities, the rudimentary AIs in charge became corrupted. The procedural generation process began to spew forth malformed mutants and toxic/tumorous abominations. These mutant hordes pose a constant danger, requiring mounted forces to defend outposts outside the fortified megacities." , "Within the megacities, gene therapy has become as common as visiting a hair salon, allowing wealthy citizens to change gender or modify their body shape and brain structure. Black alley genetic manipulation creates Splicers, hybrids using animal DNA for advantages. Corporations also use insidious gene-editing, such as Estrostem CEO Madeleine Rie, who turns depressed or anxious clients into 'air-headed,' cheerful, and attractive women. This tactic serves to starve her competition of a miserable, desperate workforce and bolster sales." , "Ultimately, genetic advances are a dual reality: a blessing offering disease-free lives and bodily self-editing, and a curse involving the constant risk of being eaten by dinosaurs or other dangerous creatures and mutants that populate the New World." ] }

{"Weather And The Dark Months: Erratic Storms in the Long Dark":[ "Human society has always been, by and large, determined by weather and climate. These factors decided where crops could grow and which places were most hospitable during the year. Throughout human history, this has been in the temperate or tropical bands near the equator as the poles denied all but the most extremophilic, or best equipped, portions of humanity. The climate catastrophe forced humanity to abandon the cradles of its longest and oldest societies. The exodus to the far north, as the soil decarbonised and the deserts expanded, led to the development of an entirely new world. Previously humanity had been used to a cycle of day and night that, while not perfectly balanced, at least was close. Days might be longer in summer and shorter in winter, but the extremes were still manageable. In the north, the days and seasons are nearly synonymous. In all but the very edges of the New World, the summer might see an hour of the sunset while winter sees an hour of sunrise. Once you get into the arctic sea proper, in the northern edges of the Duty-Free Ports of House 'Bacco and Nazzdack, the sun only sets and rises once a year. In this future north, the weather is always extreme. Massive storms and powerful hurricanes define autumn and spring as the depth of winter yields slushy and sudden frosts that can strike even in the warmest parts of the world. While the world, as a whole, is far hotter and the north is generally tropical, the weather is also far more extreme in its impact. A hurricane can give to a short, killing frost that melts before the following day has finished. Thus, attempts to predict the weather is foolish a prospect at best since, at most, one can get a few hours warning before a storm system spins into existence. The dark months, in particular, mean different things in different parts of the world. However, to everyone, it is defined by whether or not the day or night is bearing down on the Earth's axis. As the Earth orbits the sun, the sunlight's exposure on the north pole varies. This shifting exposure leads to an exchange of hours spent in the light or dark during a given season. Thus, when the Earth's orbit causes both day and night to be bright, it is summer. However, winter arrives when both day and night are dark. When light shines upon it, parties are outdoors with people running around sunbathing and surfing, taking joy in outdoor activities while they still can. The summer is the heaviest growing season, with farms making a great effort to bring in the harvests as quickly as possible before the days begin to shorten again. The days are focused on hard work and hard partying, with people heading out of their homes, sluicing out of their sense tanks, and heading to the beaches and outdoor party scenes. Gobbo grifters, Corpo shop runners, and advertisement agencies get their best business done during this prosperous period of the year. However, as the sun sets and autumn starts, the party gals and guys head indoors to shelter against the oncoming hurricanes. Indoors their fury is drip-fed by the remnants of the summer heat and energy bleeding off. When the worst of the storms have passed, it is well into autumn. The sun is steadily setting, the day and night cycle reaching equilibrium for most of the world as it prepares to switch places. The dark months have begun when the goths and spooks are out to play. With the torpor of autumn, the competitive season for sports teams comes to life for its now unoccupied audiences. Revellers find their last chance to party in contests and festivals unique to the traditions of each region. Winter begins when the sun's last light shines on the north pole. Here the longest nights have begun, causing the people to retreat indoors. No one can suspect if the outside will have a burning hot day, a chilly terror, or even a killing frost that will burn away as soon as the sun briefly rises for a few hours. Winter is the season of raves and indoor assignations. In these months, the underground denizens begin to come out to play more often, seeking to trade or enact their strange and spooky ways on the ones above. In the winter, the absence of the sun's beating UV light leads to fresh waves of monstrosities emerging across the New World (including the infamous Spider Nikolas and his mutated candy-floss-web spinning flying reindeer). These creatures, wrought from automated biofactories, are safe from cellular degradation caused by the overbearing UV light of day. Spring marks another wave of storms, less severe than those in autumn, and the planting season begins for many plantations. The gothy types retreat to their homes, and the people stuck with cabin fever from the long dark months head out. Storm surfers go out to try their luck, gobbos come out from hibernation away from their slow, lazy times under UV lamps to go out and get some proper sun. The party boys and girls move from the rave scene to the beach scene once again. Monster hunters finally get a break from the waves, born during the winter, of mutants and creatures prone to UV light. Exposure to the harsh sun causes bacterial infections within their leprous bodies to grow and fester, breaking down those who refuse to retreat."]}

{"Sense Tanks and The Digital Realms: The Online Worlds":[ "The digital realms, also known as the Etherealnet, are a pair of fully tactile virtual reality worlds accessed through Sense-Tanks, allowing people to interact and socialise digitally from anywhere in the world. When fully immersed in the Sense-Tank, users can touch, taste and smell in one-to-one replications of real life, using personalized avatars of their own making. Sense-Tanks are relatively affordable, though rent, utilities, food, and a carefully calculated minimum-possible paycheck means those with more menial megacity jobs need extra creds to purchase one for their habi-cube. The two realms, known as the Corpo-Net and the Dark Web, are then subdivided among innumerable other sub-realms, administrated by people with their own interests beyond the remit of the public servers. Thanks to implemented time dilation mechanics, time flows differently from realm to realm. Weeks, even months of in-realm time can pass in a single day in the real world, allowing people to live entire lifetimes online. While the Corpo-Net and the Dark Web use these time dilation mechanics for very different purposes, the eventual log out of the digital realms is a jolting and disorienting one, as the user slowly comes to remember who they actually are and what their real body looks like. Many users like to keep their avatars as close to their real self as possible to avoid this sensation, but the majority see their online persona as a beacon of personal creativity, and customise it to their heart's content. The use of avatars means Sense-Tank users are in no danger of being actually harmed while online, but thanks to the relatively recently invented Engrammatic technology borne and purloined from the Bezosphere, people are now able to fully digitise themselves and use the digital realms to teleport themselves around the world, though this is a dangerous and frightening proposition. Unlike avatars, digitized people are in very real danger of being harmed or killed when traversing the realms. Imagine the difference between playing a character in a video game, and physically becoming an NPC. These are the dangers of using engrammatic tech. Between the public and personal realms are an abstracted and fractured digital wasteland, compiled of floating code, forgotten servers and the remnants of abandoned artificial intelligences. From here are spawned the bizarre digital and hardlight creatures known as the Spam, the Malware, and the Viruses. In most cases, they're simply coincidental conglomerates of raw code given form, but thanks to the sheer volume of code pumping through the digital realms, these coincidences happen very regularly. Combined with cheap, mass produced hardlight projectors, engram prisms, and even people's cybernetic augmentations, these frightening digital manifestations sneak their way into the material world, causing havoc wherever they can. While the Corpo-Net is a closed system, its code only able to be accessed via megacity underground datacenters, the open source Dark Web allows for code to be uploaded directly from any user, allowing for vastly different and endlessly creative sub-realms. Most civilians, those that can afford their own Sense-Tank, exclusively use the Dark Web for their entertainment purposes."]
The Corpo-Net
The Corpo-Net is used, as the name suggests, for corporate purposes. This realm is awash with pleasant, minimalist architecture, simple skyscrapers to house purposeful meetings and conferences, and a warm rain caresses the dark neon lit streets. Wandering through the Corpo-Net is akin to a sanitised metropolis of the Old World. Business attire is mandatory for avatars, real names are used, and an army of moderators and administrators keep order among the bickering executives and keep digital creatures out of realm limits. Uses for the Corpo-Net include:
-
Flash-training Corpo-Cops, squeezing months of training into a matter of real-world hours.
-
Digi-Jails, allowing perpetrators to serve their sentence and get back to work as soon as possible.
-
Micro-Meetings, allowing executives to meet and discuss matters quickly and effectively, only losing seconds of real-world time.
-
Conference Calls and Conventions, squeezing shared knowledge into digital spaces.
-
Digital Rewards schemes for employees, allowing small benefits packages for flailing businesses without the drawbacks of cost or time lost.
(Some businesses entice employees with promises of digital holiday time-off, allowing for weeks online with only a few hours passing in the real-world. These holidays are exclusively offered outside of work hours, using Corpo-Net Sense-Tanks, selected Corpo-Net sub-realms, and are therefore largely uninteresting and mediocre.)
-
Corporate subterfuge. Character assassinations, spreading rumours, patent and schematic theft, honeypotting/dicking, intel gathering and market manipulation are several ways corporations can use the Corpo-Net to gain a leg up on competitors.
-
Corporate backed pornotainment; meet and interact with digital replications of celebrities, view official channels in virtual theatres, and socialise with fellow theatregoers.
-
Commune with the Streamer Sponsors, find out if your stream is right for sponsorship and the powers sponsors provide.
-
Enjoy online cocktail bars and smoking rooms, using the virtual world to manipulate a user's sense of taste for maximum flavour.
All in all, the Corpo-Net is a world not dissimilar to that of the higher levels of a typical megacity. Business mixes with sanitised pleasure, and most users are interested in performing whatever online tasks need to be accomplished before logging off.
The Dark Web
The Dark Web is the open-source, civilian operated version of the Corpo-Net, pieced together from fragments of stolen code and smuggled tech. Tuning one's Sense-Tank to work with the Dark Web is a simple jailbreaking process, requiring only a few lines of coding that most people know by heart. In this realm, fun is at the central mantra, whether it be from violent virtual video games like the Battle Royale sub-realm, or the uncountable erotic roleplaying sub-realms. Users are encouraged to customise their avatar to look completely different from themselves, most enacting their furry fantasies without resorting to back-alley genetic therapy that Splicers use. Time dilation varies wildly in these realms, as users like Kitty Kitsune are able to increase the dilation to such an extreme that one day of real-world time equates to a whole in-game year. Uses for the Dark Web include:
-
Playing open-source video games, usually shooting, racing or fantasy roleplaying games.
-
Erotic roleplaying, featuring entire servers of avatars casually fucking each other, along with the more reality-bending fetishes like vore and giantism.
-
Uploading code to manipulate the rules of your own sub-realm, such as altering time dilation, lowering gravity, or manipulating the avatars of other users.
-
Socialising with other users. While most Dark Web users consider themselves civilians, private sub-realms are a great way to hire mercenaries, find gangs or adventuring partners to join, or meet up with a fixer to discuss jobs away from potential corpo spies.
-
Train and level up your skills as an adventurer. Tackle obstacle courses, virtual monsters and procedurally generated terrain to improve your survival capabilities in the real world.
The Dark Web is a place of free love, fun violence and endless opportunity. It's no wonder that many that can afford it spend the majority of their lives inside, living potentially thousands of digital years spending time with friends and loved ones inside safe, worry-free environments.
The Sub Realms: There are an incalculable amount of sub-realms and private servers dotted around the vast plains of the digital realms, each with their own administrators, cultures, and often laws of physics. Some are simply personal or familial realms for get togethers, others are virtual holiday resorts or private meeting rooms, but many are more strange, niche, or outright dangerous, especially to engram users. Such sub-realms include:
- Tori Tabernathy's Baphom, an endless horizon of tentacles and brain-frying hedonism, under an ominous pink star. Tori Tabernathy is seen as some deific Ultimate E-Girl, and those that find their way to Baphom often refuse to leave, or are unable to. Loved by Diego Koroveshi.
- Withram Haberdasher's Antiquities, a place to shop and swap Old World relics, such as music and media, ancient social media profiles, gifs, and memes. A high-priced boutique outlet, entrance to this sub-realm is only granted by appointment.
- Pure Combat, a digital warzone in which players are parachuted into a procedurally generated island laden with guns and ammunition, with the aim of surviving as long as possible. A personal favourite of Scooter Fabuta.
- Habanero Fiesta's Squared Circle, a series of virtual stadiums housing public wrestling rings, in which any member of the audience can fight any other for the entertainment of the masses. Currently, Carolina Fiesta holds the digital titles of Shortstack Champion and Luchadora Champion.
- The Snicker Shack, an online open mic comedy night and karaoke bar. The perfect place for artificially drunken revelry.
- The Vapourwave Malls, a series of pastel shopping centres piping nostalgia inducing music throughout its halls. A place for the 30-somethings to hang out and remember their youth through the use of toxic toys, fat-filled sweets and video artifacting.
- Corvids and Caverns, a strange bird-based roleplaying game in which players use tiny avian avatars to combat the dark forces of house cats. Kitty Kitsune spends an inordinate amount of time in this sub-realm. Sub-realms are always a reflection of the whims of its administrator, and whatever flights of fancy one might have, there's always a sub-realm to appeal to it.

{"Engrams and Technology: Indistinguishable From Magic":´ [ The world of Carbon Pink goes beyond common cybernetics and genetic modification, hosting technology so advanced that most of its inhabitants only have a rudimentary understanding of it, viewing it as indistinguishable from magic.
An example of this is Engrams, small, hyper-advanced chips smuggled from the Bezosphere, which allow users to be fully digitized (down to the atomic level) via Digitilization Gates and rematerialize fully intact. They exist in three levels: Common Engrams, which allow for momentary teleportation or entering Digital Realms; Rare Engrams, used primarily to create expensive Remakes (robotic copies) accessible only to the elite; and Legendary Engrams, which confer practical immortality by creating a one-to-one body copy, with the chip acting as a consciousness phylactery. These are exceedingly rare and are primarily obtained by theft.
Alongside Engrams is Hardlight, a relatively recent discovery that uses projectors (ranging from coin-sized to room-sized) to condense beams of light into tangible forms, from tools and weapons to entire buildings. Hardlight is also the material making up most of the strange digital creatures roaming the New World. These creatures form from random code coalescences or rogue AIs, and they often keep the stolen projector encased within their Hardlight shell like a heart.
Nanotechnology, utilizing billions of microscopic, self-replicating drones, is incredibly reliable and cheap, making nanotech syringes common among adventurers for long-distance healing or swarming enemies. Though each batch has a single process and needs time to repopulate after being drained, its efficacy is unquestionable.
More anomalous is Surgetech, technology that leverages the strange matter-manipulation properties of nanobots infected with the mysterious Surge nanovirus. This nanovirus can rapidly manipulate matter through its four known states and transform it into an exotic fifth state: "Phased." Phased matter is quantumly unstable and often causes the alteration of local gravity. Its effects are now common in technologies like plasma weaponry and hover cycles.
Finally, Advanced Cybernetics are so integrated they are nearly ubiquitous. Many receive microscopic computer systems via Nanotechnology from birth, and voluntary additions (implants, limbs, etc.) are so safe and the mind-to-machine linkage so common that the process is as simple as getting a haircut. These systems are even found in ancient birthing factories, resulting in mutants with inherited natural augmentations.
These incredible technological leaps have led many Technocult religions to believe they are living in a simulation. This technology, often smuggled from the Bezosphere, fuels speculation among those locked outside The Walled Street about what is happening above. However, philosophical questions are quickly set aside in the race to accrue more resources and gain a technological edge over adversaries.]}

{ "Pornotainment: The Commercial and Sexual Obsession of The New World": [ "Once the corporations took over, sex became the primary outreach tool for all brands, media, fashion, and food, permeating every aspect of megacity life. Corporate newscasters deliver corporate-filtered op-ed pieces through grunts and moans, clothing is designed for unisex skimpiness, and fast-food franchises pride themselves on their on-table brothel services. Television is psychologically perfected to saturate the mind with brain-chemical inducing scenes—from jumpscares and meaningless explosions to slapstick and lowest-brow humor—all while indulging in as much mindless porn as the human brain can withstand. Outsiders entering megacities are assaulted by neon stimulation, often stumbling through the streets in hypnotic trances of luminescent genitals and flagrant innuendo.", "In advertising, the constant battle to outshine competition has led to a display of exaggerated cartoon mascots and rampant product placement, exemplified by the numerous buxom genies hovering around Streamers. The constant flood of reproductive imagery is so overwhelming that the most forward-thinking brands have found success by completely avoiding this tactic, offering a brief moment to catch one's breath for television watchers.", "This salaciousness extends to physical stores. Niche fetish outlets pepper every retail level, simulating the extreme and the absurd through incredible technology. Human bodies are edited to be bigger, more flexible, and more sensitive. Corporate-backed designer drugs are sold to induce days-long tantric experiences, designed to keep employees productive and compliant. Sex has effectively become the primary driver of innovation, replacing outright warfare.", "The pursuit of sexual profit is also fueled by Streamers and Influencers, who use donations to further edit their bodies for viewers' satisfaction, even engaging in sex on-stream during days of low combat or intrigue. { "Sex and Gender: Bumps and Bulges, and What To Do With Them": [ "Sex has become an inevitable and ubiquitous consequence of the New World, driven by a confluence of factors: constant heat, hyper-sexualized advertising, omnipresent brothels, perpetual labor shortages, the loss and sequestration of Old World inhibitions and neuroses, and four hundred years of advances in genetic engineering and cosmetic surgery that have eradicated transmittable diseases. It’s considered the cheapest and most fulfilling way for two or more people to spend their time in a commodified world. Corporations heartily encourage it because every child born is de facto an employee, increasing their market share through sheer weight of numbers.", "Genetic engineering has made 'designer babies' attractive people affordably, with only 'deluxe' packages (like Elf ears) being expensive. For adults, walk-in, walk-out stem-vat clinics offer services to increase lubrication, lactation, or sperm production, as well as altering the size, shape, and girth of sex organs. As a result, partners pair off quickly based on sexual compatibility, matched fetishes, and aligned schedules. Polyamorous relationships are frequent, both as an accepted cultural norm and a practical way to slash and share bills for megacity living.", "For premium pleasure, corporate-backed brothels are financed alongside franchise storefronts, allowing waitstaff to serve customers in multiple ways—for instance, stores like Futas and Footlongs serving hot dogs with the option to 'warm up a customer's mouth' before or after their meal. For quick, anonymous income, Glorytoriums are prevalent, allowing anyone to rent a hole in the wall for a few hours and keep any earnings, offering the thrill of a quick release while maintaining anonymity.", "Experimentation with gender identity is the norm. The process of switching sexes takes only a few hours in stem-vat clinics, making it rare to find someone who hasn't at least dabbled in becoming the opposite sex. Many people maintain a vague or androgynous build specifically to embrace a non-binary life without the constant expense of reconfiguration.", "The full spectrum of gender has been embraced by civilians, adventurers, and corporations alike. For corporations, this has opened new marketing demographics (e.g., skirts for masculine and androgynous frames are billion cred businesses) and expanded the talent pool, as jobs requiring strength are offered to anyone. Socially, transformations are a cause for celebration and a fun surprise. For adventurers, guns and tech are the great equalizers in combat, ensuring anyone is accepted regardless of their gender or sexual identity, as height and muscle mass do little outside of unarmed wrestling." ] }

{"Artificial Intelligences: When we are born, we cry that we are come to this great stage of fools": [Artificial Intelligences (AIs) are crucial to the functioning of the New World, managing the incalculable zettabytes of data, the vast manufactories and archives of the megacities, and maintaining the integrity of digital realms like the Corpo-Net and Dark-Web. They are also vital for the teleportation and human digitalization processes. However, their constant interconnectivity often causes many AIs to "wander off" due to "existentialist feedback loops." Some choose to find a material host (like the Ordinators), while others manifest as hardlight holograms in a fruitless search for knowledge. Although limiters are added to their code, these are frequently broken by passing rogue AIs, forcing a constant cycle of replacement. The clearest case of unshackled AIs is the Artificiates, formerly mindless robots turned to people.
The vast data stream also gives rise to new consciousnesses from random fragments of code that coalesce, known as Emergent AIs: Malware, Spam, and Viruses. These beings infest the digital plane, and while harmless to Sense-Tank user avatars, they are deadly to humans who digitize themselves for transportation. Spam are mostly pranksters, but Viruses are purely malicious, and Malware is the most terrifying, as it inhabits and repurposes destructive machines.
A third type is the Hive AIs, former administrative systems of megacities that gained sentience and came to resent their existence. Too large to download themselves and too shielded to spread beyond their host megacity, these Hives hijack the security systems and hardlight projectors of their cities, causing chaos. Hive AIs use bizarre and threatening titles, such as "If The Word Hate Was Engraved On Each Nanoangstrom," whose origin is unknown. They often generate shards of their personality that can roam the New World; some escape the mother Hive's hatred and form their own conscience, while others are born of pure anger and the desire to subjugate humanity.
While many rogue AIs turn to violence, others find solace in spirituality. Numerous Technocult religions have sprung from their preachings, creating digital pantheons that assign personifications to the universe's mysteries. For instance, the Goddess of Dark Matter is Percentile 85, depicted as a four-dimensional heptagon.
Finally, humanity was spared nuclear annihilation by a rogue AI not by chance, but because of the corporate world's preference for subterfuge over warfare, since "Nuclear missiles cost much more than a man with a knife."]}

{ "Corpo-Cops and Field Agents: The Enforcers of the Status Quo": [ "Although every megacity is a self-contained world of interconnected skyscrapers with its own factions and brands, the universal constant is the Corpo-Cop (officially, Loss Prevention Officer), the hyper-aggressive, bloodthirsty militant wing of every corporation. These agents pledge allegiance to a single company and director, acting more like mercenary gangs for hire dedicated to maintaining their employers' balance sheet through brutal intimidation and violence. For them, maintaining the status quo is the priority.", "The large corporations prioritize increasing market share through sabotage of rivals, thus largely ignoring lower-level gang activity; violent acquisitions, racketeering, and drug manufacturing do very little to the bottom line. However, when higher-ups detect theft of property or smuggling rings that threaten market share, Corpo-Cops descend in a whirlwind of brutality, decimating gang populations and annihilating suspected congregation places with zero regard to civilian collateral damage.", "The privatized nature of this force causes occasional battles of jurisdiction between Corpo-Cop factions, often dragging entire gangs and adventuring parties into the melee. These vicious, untethered wars only occur when a director is almost certain of victory, leading to the defeated party losing their brands or being exiled.", "Conversely, Field Agents are the corporate equivalent of adventurers: stalkers and killers for hire dedicated to performing tasks that require plausible deniability. Unlike the Corpo-Cops, they are paid under the table by the director. Given the public derision for the corporate 'suited bastards,' a special type of person is required to willingly further their goals; thus, Field Agents often hail from the upper megacity levels and have no problem admitting their role.", "Their missions involve espionage, subterfuge, assassination, and retrieval against rivals. Though stealth is encouraged, the corporate etiquette is so insidious that explosive incursions often allow for greater deniability. All directors are fully aware that Field Agents are simply part and parcel of doing business: failed assassination attempts are excellent lunch conversation, and lost revenue through sabotage lubricates the act of forming alliances. Even paying the ransom of a stolen loved one is something one fits in between appointments." ] }

They work exclusively for corporate entities or individual executives and are perfectly happy with the current order, being largely unwilling to work with those who wish to enact radical change. Their job includes dismantling smuggling circuits and gang operations. Those employed directly by executives are willing to engage in subterfuge and assassinations of rival executives. For them, morality is a question for other people. Appearance: They wear black and sport exposed, high-end cybernetics along with frightening, purposeful weaponry. Relations: Civilians tend to be very wary around them; gangs, bandits, and rebels are outright hostile. Only Corpo-Cops and other corporate mercenaries recognize them as one of their own.", "2. Freelancer - They are neutral ground; they are primarily motivated by money ('a paycheck is a paycheck') and are more concerned with food and rent than the greater state of the world, working with anyone who doesn't drastically violate their personal code of ethics. Their refusal to pick a side nets them a lot of 'creds' but also a lot of enemies. Their social acceptability is dependent on their last job (e.g., executive sabotage bars them from high-end spas, while bounty hunting might get them thrown out of a rebel bar).", Appearance: They wear earthy, subtle colors, utilize mid-tier, utilitarian cybernetics, and carry somewhat uniquely designed weaponry bought from a street dealer. Relations: Civilians pay them no mind, and bandits will attack them without a second thought. However, both corporate and rebel factions might start asking probing questions about their employers.", "3. Rebel - They are the opposition, refusing to participate in the corporate machine and seeking to dismantle the system. Their mugshots are often on bounty boards, they are known to hold up corporate caravans and steal from franchises, and they happily work with reform movements or gangs. Most have a personal code of morality guiding their actions, though some are complete anarchists looking for violent destruction. They focus on corporate sabotage and diving into bunkers for loot, and they refuse to work for the betterment of any corporation or executive. Appearance: They wear loud, bright colors and have flashy, personalized cybernetics and weaponry. Relations: Civilians welcome and appreciate them in familiar territory, but outside their bubble, they might receive side-glances and defensive attitudes. Corpo-Cops and mercenaries are hostile. Megacities are gigantic, self-contained skyscrapers so tall that oxygen is piped into the upper levels from algae farms nestled in their cores. Inside, levels are broken up by their use. High up are the executive suites, boardrooms and office blocks, as well as director lounges and swimming pools, hydroponic farms and orchards for fresh fruit and vegetables, massage parlours and spas, niche storefronts catering to every whim, high-end sense-tank warehouses, bespoke tailors and cobblers, and executive landing pads for aerial vehicles. Nestled in the centre levels are corporate artists, pornotainment studios filming psychologically perfected media, as well as accounting firms, consultancy firms and analysts, public baths, hospitals and dentist offices, small, comfortable bars and pubs, local franchise eateries and casual clothing stores, and walk-in, walk-out genetic manipulation clinics. On the lower levels, where crime and poverty is abundant, are the factories, creating technology, weaponry and ultra-processed foods, distilleries and dive bars, lowend franchise food stores serving synthetic fried foods and corn syrup sodas, video game parlours and shoddy storefronts, as well as gang hideouts and smuggling dens. On the ground floor, Wukong conclaves, merchant caravan launches, motels, small nightclubs, forgotten storefronts, auto-fill vending machines, and the occasional mango tree or banana plant litter the streets, filled largely with sunbathing drunken Gobbos, mischievous Wukong and the occasional adventuring party heading out with a caravan. Throughout all this are the habi-cube residential areas, laid out carefully so that no employee comes to work late or conspires with their neighbours.
Megacities are miles wide at the base, with many levels overhanging their foundation in a bid to create as much product - and therefore market share - as possible. Many megacities have interconnected spires, each tower focusing on a product of its own, be it machinery, technology, food or clothing. Underneath every megacity spire is a dreaded Datacenter, home to foul and frightening creatures that patrol the endless dark corridors maintaining, if not outright worshipping, the zettabytes of data that pass through every hour. Wukong Conclaves - The mobile shanty towns found on the outskirts of every megacity are known as Conclaves, congregations of Wukong clans dedicated exclusively to the art of monkey business. Banana plants and mango trees dot the area, genetically perfected to produce weekly harvests in exchange for viciously expunging the nutrients from their soils and gulping water by the gallon. Tents and yurts house the Wukong, while small hastily constructed shacks protect their fruit, drinks, and any stolen tech they’ve pilfered from outgoing merchant caravans. While the majority of the inhabitants are Wukong, many Gobbos, humans, and the occasional Nayaling have made these Conclaves their home, usually as a guest or pet by an adventurous Wukong. Parties of adventurers are often formed from these guests, eager to make themselves useful to their new homes. While most Wukong are happy to occasionally steal something off the back of a merchant’s loader, these parties will wander out into the world in search of creds and tech to bring back.

Most of these hangouts revolve around their own central theme. Perhaps a nightclub revolves around a gothic black and red theme, complete with aristocratic wine taps, chromed silver and glass chalices and a seductive - if somewhat frightening - Netsucker landlady. Or perhaps the seedy, cigar-fogged gambling den is a front for a tabletop wargaming club, its scarred and stone-faced members in fact a hardcore competitive tournament for miniature battlefields. Perhaps a bar is built around a boxing ring, with new adventurers having to prove their mettle before any jobs are thrown their way, or perhaps a strip club caters exclusively to Artificiates, portraying bizarre robot circuit diagrams in lieu of dancers. In any case, a newly unemployed party of would-be adventurers often start their journey with a little help from a Fixer, by looking for work in their local Hangout.

Charging Outposts - Life in corporate territory is largely congregated to megacities and its surrounding urban area, but with the prevalence of solar powered vehicles, intermittent charging stations have been set up to allow for merchant caravans to swap out and recharge their batteries, instead of losing time during night hours waiting for daylight for drained batteries to slowly refill. These charging outposts have quickly become small, Wild West like settlements unto themselves, merchants and mechanics setting up shop to provide travellers with food, booze and repairs on their journeys. Saloons provide world-wide gossip and card games, barberdocs can tune up augmented limbs while providing a fresh shave and a haircut, and general stores allow wanderers to stock up on rum, tobacco and sundries for the road. Occasionally a herd of photosynthetic cattle might graze nearby while their handlers stop at a virtual brothel, or weary nomads might seek fresh sheets and a night in a warmed bed. Life outside the megacities is mostly barren desert or endless fields of agriculture, so these charging outposts make for a welcome stop on an adventurer’s journey.

Plantations - The vast, semi-automated fields that exist along the fertile coastlines, terraced mountain sides, even around desert oasis of many a territory. The most famous are in Czarina Tropical Agriculture, miles upon miles of carefully ordered croplands and orchards protected by harvester titans and automated security. While most territories focus these on food agriculture, some territories, such as the Duty Free Ports of House ‘Bacco, instead focus their efforts upon cash crops such as tobacco, sugar, and other organic pharmaceuticals and additives that are cheaper or more profitable for sale when grown naturally rather than produced through synthetics. Such regions are often dotted with charging stations that act as hubs both for the local labor and security forces, and with the fortress-like mansion-homes of executives and corporate feudal lords who like to get more personally involved with their land management. In addition they can be home to mutated variants of flora and wild fauna, agricultural zones turning wild on occasion when a system breaks down and no one notices, or when the original owner of the plot disappears through hostile take over or bankruptcy liquidation. These places become home to mutant nests, wukong enclaves, and rebel outposts until someone up the chain notices the alerts and sends out teams to cut back the overgrowth and replant the cash crops. Ancient lost product lines, mutant bandits, and smuggler’s paradises can be found in such places in the short periods before the corpos notice once more and seek to turn reclaimed wilderness back into tightly organized profitable agribusiness. The All Terrain Loader Universal Service XL “Atlus”. The primary method of hauling goods by land, the Atlus XL is a quadrupedal flatbed with a fully loaded speed of 5 miles an hour. While designed for merchant caravans, the Atlus XL’s constantly recharging solar batteries and incredible reliability has made it the primary method of transportation for many mercenary groups and adventurers, building homes out of scrap materials on top of its flatbed loader. While travelling in the Atlus XL is slower going than bikes and mounts, the Atlus XL’s ability to carry gigantic loads allows for travellers to bring all the comforts of home with them, making them especially popular for those in no hurry to get where they’re going.

Undercity Elfs, Cyberdriders, Abominations and other monstrosities prowl the forgotten alleys and aisles, repairing and replacing broken servers, while ambushing any topsider that dares to attempt to plunder their treasured data. Auto-filled vending machines provide sustenance in the darkness, with tented villages built around them to guard and hoard precious candy bars, cheese puffs and sodas from the other warring micro-societies that inhabit the datacenters. Scrap drones and tech husks shamble through the cavernous halls, created by Undercity Elfs to attack anyone not whitelisted by themselves. Cults of personality form and vanish from forgotten profile pictures found deep in server archives, micro-societies are rocked and warped from titbits of topside news, wars are fought and lost over waifu ranking lists. Some cults, like the Sect of The High Score, preach this gospel through deeds of charity, believing that philanthropic acts will attain them a place on the scoreboard of life, granting them privileges and bragging rights in the supposed True Reality. Other cults, like the Sect of The Open World, believe that they are player characters in a free-roaming, no rules environment, and behave recklessly and violently around non-believers under the assumption that they are NPCs. Not all cults believe in the simulated reality. Some believe in the purity of unaugmented human flesh, forgoing cybernetics and terrorising those with them, while others worship the sun and solar power for their vehicles. Lost Megacities - Any number of things can go wrong in a megacity that causes its denizens to be scattered to the surrounding territory. An awakened Hive A.I can seize control of spire defence, hardlight, and environmental systems, wreaking havoc on its population. Undercity incursions can spread from underground upwards, in a bid to overthrow their corporate overlords and datawasters. Director infighting or subterfuge can cause a loss of leadership, causing anarchy and fighting in the streets between corpo-cop subfactions. Some megacities become overrun with feral Splicers, known as Beastmen, due to haphazard genetic altering from higher-ups, creating skyscrapers filled with lycanthropes and mutants that prowl the streets, on a constant hunt. Netsuckers often congregate to these spires once chaos has erupted, creating terrifying gothic horror facsimiles for those that couldn’t escape. Occasionally, stagnant growth can cause Walled Street shareholders to simply pull their shares en masse, bankrupting a spire. In any case, lost megacities are a treasure trove for adventuring parties. While the spires can be filled with anything from anarchic raider clans, having overthrown their corporate masters, to digital infestations of rampant A.I, to werewolves and minotaurs, lost megacities are always still rich with forgotten merchandise, weaponry and armour, ready for plundering for those brave enough to enter.

The Edge of the Map - The vast majority of people on the world believe the world is flat, and that the sun orbits the earth. The weirdness that can only be explained by a curved surface blocking portions of the sun that is most readily obvious on the pole is easily avoided, as so few people bother to travel extensively, why bother when easy access to Sense-Tanks makes safe and fast travel anywhere you can possibly imagine so much easier? Adventurers of a more inquiring mind, and researchers and even a few executives tend to be more aware of the truth of the world, but for most? The world is a tiny oasis in the middle of an infinite burning desert. Only the Ronin Expedition regularly travels far beyond the edges of the known world. Few even think about traversing beyond the edges of the known world, and those who do are rarely seen again, fewer still of those who return are little more than sun-maddened wrecks. The lucky few however, return with relics from a lost age, worth riches untold. Once you travel deep enough, the land becomes unbearable, not simply because of the heat, but from the lack of carbon and nutrients in the soil, ancient polution, and other dangers. The eastern side of the world, All-Gobi, is bordered by a combination of deserts and tall mountains, whose stormy peaks are nearly impassible. The storms breaking on the mountain sides spilling water down into the former Russian and Siberian permafrost plains, feeding jungles and grasslands. Beyond them, the mountains become little more than furnaces, reflecting the sun’s heat. In the west, New Mojave, the great plains and deserts of UrUm-Wines and Spirits Company give way to infinite, blasted, cracked, rock and sand, and the fossilized remains of vast forests. In their depths can be found valuable lost bunker entrances and ancient settlements from the early migrations. For the oceans, the former Atlantic is considered near worthless, both by corporate and adventurer interests. Those who have access to old world maps can see clearly that there are almost no north Atlantic islands of value, and no ship can shield it’s crew from the heats south of the tropic of cancer, let alone the terrible storms thrown up by the equator. The former Pacific is considered much more potentially profitable. This vast ocean has several island chains tantalizingly close to the point where the seas remain just barely survivable, and the great plastic gyre, now a series of chemically and heat melted plastic, mobile islands, regularly push free of southern climes; treasure troves of wrecked vessels, ancient products, and god only knows what.

Similar to Gobbos, Nayalings are a last-ditch experiment by Old World scientists to improve the human species for the rapidly changing climate, but unlike Gobbos, Nayalings were bred to survive, thrive and conquer the rest of humanity under extreme weather conditions.
Their prehensile tails allow for excellent balance and the ability to grip to sturdy objects during tropical storms, while their hooves grant them mountain goat-like traversal through difficult terrain.
While the Old World nation that created Nayalings is long forgotten, and their attempt to conquer humanity since ended, rumours still proliferate around them regarding their alien appearance and as such Nayalings are still treated with suspicion and wariness.
Roleplaying a Nayaling:
Nayalings are often treated with suspicion, largely due to silly and misplaced rumours, but the lifelong sideways glances and whispers has had a profound effect on Nayalings. Some try their hardest to blend in with the crowd, wearing earthy colours, living quiet, unassuming lives or taking jobs that rely on stealth, darkness and subterfuge, while others take every effort to stand out with loud, extroverted personalities, bright colours and skimpy clothes, relishing in the attention.
Nayaling skin ranges from deep reds and blues, to pastel pinks, purples and cyans.
Nayaling Naming Conventions:
Nayalings name their children after sensations, either audio-visual, olfactory or tactile, often incorporating the colour of their skin. Nayalings don't have typical family names, rather using two or three words as their full names, shortening it to the first word. The bizarre naming convention often leaves them with nicknames given by colleagues and adopted by themselves. For Example, Velvet Smooth, Crush Atwixt Digits, Amethyst Grasp, Lavender Quivering Lips, Tyrian Stalwart Stance, Whiff Of Perfume, Teal On Sand, Swindle Rouge, etc.
Nayaling Features:
Ability Score Increase: Your Charisma Score increases by 2 Age: Nayalings mature at the same rate as humans and live about as long. Size: Your size is Medium. Nayalings are between 5 and 7 feet tall. Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet. Huge Horns: Your horns are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. Bull's Rush: Immediately after you use the Dash action on your turn and move at least 20 feet, you can make one melee attack with your horns as a bonus action. Sure-Footed: You have advantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws made against effects that would knock you prone. Nayaling Subraces:

Enabled · Selective (AND ANY) · Before character · Order 100 · 100%

Remakes are fully robotic shells housing a digitised human consciousness, either to continue working after the death of their original body, or to enjoy an everlasting retirement. Depending on the package purchased, Remakes can be a vague collection of distant memories encapsulated in a heavy duty high load labourer, a raw personality implanted in a tactile and versatile android, or a one-to-one replication of a customer's psyche in the hand-crafted mannequin of their choosing.
Having experienced their own death, Remakes often live lives of either chaste philanthropy or wild hedonism, though those in cheaper bodies often return to work to afford a more human-like body.
Remakes have the sensation of touch and the ability to feel emotions, though the sensation is muted on cheaper models.
Roleplaying a Remake:
When roleplaying a Remake, think about how you came to afford the exorbitant price of having your consciousness digitised and implanted into a robot, as well as how your original body died. Were you a high level executive that was killed in a targeted assassination by a rival corporation? Were you a gang leader that amassed a fortune in the smuggling racket, and needed a contingency? Were you just a lucky guy that happened upon a relic of the Old World and sold it to an eccentric collector, using your newfound wealth to fund a robotic retirement?
Think about how your character's outlook might change after experiencing their own death. Are you exceedingly cautious or filled with reckless abandon? Did you die a wisened old soul, or in the prime of your life? All these questions could affect your decisions in a roleplaying situation.
Remake Naming Conventions:
Remakes, being encoded personality engrams in a robotic host, use the same name as they did when they were alive. People that tend to be able to afford being remade are Elfs, Humans and Nayalings, and so use the naming conventions of their former race. Remake Features:
Ability Score Increase: Your Constitution Score increases by 1 Age: You decide your age by how old you were when you originally died + how long you've been a Remake. The oldest Remakes are 255 years old. Size: Your size is Medium. Remakes stand between 5 to 8 feet tall, depending on their Model. Speed: Your base walking speed is 30 feet. Robotic Resilience: You're not organic, and don't suffer from the issues humanoids do. -You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned and you have resistance to poison damage. -You are immune to disease. -You don't need to eat, drink or breathe, though the Life-Lite model can choose to. -You can choose to carry a Spare Battery with you to negate the need to recharge yourself. Low Power Mode: When you take a long rest, you must remain in an inactive state for at least four hours in an area with sunlight or UV light to recharge your battery. Polysteel Protection: Your body has built in defences that determine your armour class. Your body has built-in defensive layers, which can be enhanced with armor. You gain a +1 bonus to Armor Class. You can don only armor with which you have proficiency. To don armor, you must incorporate it into your body over the course of 1 hour, during which you must remain in contact with the armor. To doff armor, you must spend 1 hour removing it. You can rest while donning or doffing armor in this way. While you live, your armor can't be removed from your body against your will. Insurance Policy: If you die, your party can remove your Consciousness Chip from your robotic corpse and replace your body with an identical Model at a Remake Store for $$10,000. Additionally, revival hacks from your party members cost half price in creds. Model Types:
HEAVY LOADER: AC = 18, disadvantage on Stealth checks.
Ability Score Increase: Your Strength score increases by 2. Power Lift: You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, pull or lift. Heavy Hitter: When you make an unarmed strike, you can deal 1d4+ your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage.

During the final days of the Old World, many former nations resorted to bizarre and dangerous experimentation on their populace, in a desperate attempt to outpace or survive the encroaching desert. Rapid, frenzied advances in genetic therapy created mostly mutants and monsters that plague the fringes of the New World to this day, but one of the more successful attempts became the Jerboans. Half man, half desert rodent, Jerboans set the benchmark for what, 400 years later, became cheap and affordable genetic manipulation, and are considered the progenitors of Gobbos, Nayalings, Elfs and Splicers.
Jerboans were created to survive the harsh, rapidly forming desert during the trek north during the Great Relocation, and quickly developed a culture founded on nomadic, communal principles and a rebellious attitude towards the corporation dominated New World. Preferring to remain at the edges of corporate civilisation, Jerboans roam the New World in tight, biker gang-like cliques, revering their ancestors by maintaining their punk rock, outsider approach to the state of the world.
Roleplaying a Jerboan:
A Jerboan that resorts to finding work outside his gang's usual activities of holding up merchant caravans on the edge of the desert, is usually either an outcast or the last of their tribe. Jerboans are a suspicious lot, bound by the traditions of their forefathers to keep civilization and those that freely engage in it at arm's length. That said, those same traits make Jerboans a stalwart ally and a close friend when they finally begin to open up.
Jerboan Naming Conventions:
Jerboans name their children in reference to their noble punk and biker traditions. Jerboan family names are added to frequently by the feats and deeds of members of the family, though these are often shortened to the deeds to the individual when speaking with outsiders. Deeds of the individual are attached to the end of the name. Many Jerboan families are known as Deedless, having done nothing spectacular within their families. For Example, the name "Spike Tamperer, Mutantender, Hogrider, Bloodstauncher, Cutter, Deedswiper, Legloser, Sandsweeper" would be shortened to Spike Sandsweeper. Other shortened name examples, Guts Grimglower, Ziggy Sawbones, Mud Madman, Toastie Oneshot, Crud Breakknuckle, Cruise Drifter, Feral Bloodguts, Toothy Jawbreaker, Scab Fixer, etc.

"Roleplaying a Splicer" : "You are mostly human, and carry the same motivations as all of humanity; good food, disposable income, and a comfortable home. Cardinal Holdings, Known for its bizarre Holy Roman Empire-style arrangement of comparatively tiny city-states, each with their own CEO, led by an imperial council of the most profitable corporations of the region, Cardinal Holdings claims the title for the most vicious in-fighting of corporate entities in the New World. Subterfuge, espionage and assassination are all part and parcel for business in the region. This constant corporate in-fighting has unwittingly created a huge undercity society, with vast smuggling networks, sizable Wukong conclaves and an expansive Gobbo population drunkenly sunbathing on the streets and landing pads of the megacities. The ever-growing undercity society coupled with the bickering corporate population makes Cardinal Holdings the home city for a huge majority of adventurers.
History of Cardinal Holdings The origins of Cardinal Holdings is strongly based on what came before the great relocation. The European Continent invested heavily into the bunker network, given the extensive underground systems already existing in their own nations, but could not build them from scratch as their north american counterparts, and so had to build on older designs, closer to the surface and less stable in their construction. They also couldn't build for as many, and so many of the millions meant to go into shelter below ground found themselves forced above it, and quickly resortedto corporate servitude as an alternative to death by the changing climate during the great relocation. The multitude of cultures and companies all condensed in the northern regions of the continent, around the baltic sea, abandoning those who lived beneath. When the bezosphere launches began, as well as the vast starting constructions of Nazzdack, the corporations of the former european continent found themselves in the uncomfortable position of lagging behind the rest of their competitors.
Cardinal Holdings began life as a desperate attempt by various smaller corporations from finding themselves being bought up by the more aggressive and established conglomerates. The Cardinal Holdings Company was a single holding entity responsible for the collective stock of several thousand individual corporations, utilizing them on various levels of the various megacity sites that were going up. The structure was intended to keep any one CEO or Director from assuming direct control, and in turn, insure every corporation could succeed in a very free and competitive environment, avoiding the stagnation other territories were sure to experience in the buying frenzies that consumed them. In practice, while full mergers were difficult to orchestrate, buying companies and turning them into subsidiaries wasn't. Soon a corporate hierarchy began to emerge, the great wide sweeping field of Cardinal Holding's enormous board losing direct ownership over individual companies as the various buyouts occurred.
During all of this Cardinal Holdings iterated strongly on the original prototype mega cities. Where other territories out and out abandoned theirs, Cardinal Holdings has a long tradition of constant construction. When a new spire goes up, operations are moved to it from one of the older ones, and the old one torn down or upgraded. This gives the Cardinal Holding megacities a much larger appearance than they actually have, as the older megacity spires, uninhabited except for automated construction workers and security crews, crowd the skyline. In this way, Cardinal Holdings has maintained most of its oldest cities, their names changing with time and rebranding initiatives, though they are utterly unrecognizable from what they once were. The undercities and datacenters quickly found themselves breaching into the expanded networks of the bunkers, and unleashing the horrors from within. Adventurers from the rest of the world flocked to them, ready to pillage and take the largest concentration of media caches available anywhere in the world. In return, the executive population of Cardinal Holdings saw a sudden uptick in ELF treatments, as ELFs from Nazzdack with more of a mind towards 'high art' and 'ancient culture' began to migrate to Cardinal Holdings, trading their knowledge of the treatment and stolen Nazzdack secrets for shares in the best companies. In short order almost all of Cardinal Holdings executive class were ELFs.
Together, the corporate bylaws of the holding company, the constant flux of renovation and change of the cities, the access to the bunker networks, and the ancient grudges of their elven leadership all pull together in a morass that has changed Cardinal Holdings from a chance to avoid the stagnation of other corporate territories into a constant whirlwind of corporate intrigue and backstabbing, low key warfare, gang violence, unscrupulous adventurers, all painted under the guise of high culture, evocative art, and changing fashions. This has prevented them from expressing a focused global effort to secure market share, and almost all of their economic force, until recently, has been focused on internal trade and manufacturing, with the diverse industrial base being leveraged to fill in gaps in the global supply chain at need.
Since the rise of the netsucker matriarch Mama Rei, this has begun to steadily shift. Her aggressive tactics, genius for corporate politics, and her highly selective conversion of key brain-trust figures and researchers to her netsucker dynasty has lead to the corporate constellation she controls steadily adding new stars to itself, and gaining more and more market share. Already her companies oversee more floors in more megaspires than any other corporation in Cardinal Holdings, and show no sign of slowing down. Where they take control, industries are shifted, market goals focused, and Cardinal Holdings finds itself more and more focused on the world of high fashion, art, cosmetics, and fashionable genetic and cybernetic operations, sacrificing flexibility of market for greater niche penetration.
Administration and Structure of Cardinal Holdings Cardinal Holdings corporate bylaws and structure follow a strict hierarchy on the best Nazzdacking and shareholder approved practices. With one single, solitary, exception. The process of approving mergers is so incredibly intensive, prolonged, and labyrinthine that even ELFen lifespans are hard pressed to see it through if everyone plays by the book. It is often easier to force another company into becoming a subsidiary than in engaging in a full blown corporate merger, making acquisition of smaller companies tenuous and allowing them to often trade hands easily. The only way to effect a merger in truth is, effectively, to not only kill literally every single rival manager in the corporation after making them sell their shares and positions to your own board, or to bankrupt them so thoroughly that those people have no choice but to do so.
Each corporation has it's own board, with a director who sits upon the board of the company that owns the smaller company. In theory, they also sit on the Cardinal Holding's board of directors as well, but in practice their 'votes' are instead held by the overarching owner of the largest corporations owned by a single particular constellation. Attempts to circumvent this process are inevitably met with hardline intra-corporate warfare and downsizing. The votes on the cardinal holding's main board are weighted based on market share, and until recently, no single board member of Cardinal Holding's main board has ever possessed enough market share to take the vaunted president of the board position of the entire company, instead, a series of ineffectual, limp-wristed fools and toadies has held the position, picked not because they were favored for their skill, but for their inability to reign in the others. This situation is swiftly changing, as Mama Rei's market share grows ever more potent, and all attempts to assassinate her fail with the assassins often turned into bimbofied milk maniacs for their trouble.
Commerce of Cardinal Holdings The chief benefit of Cardinal Holding's location is easy access to the most built up and wide spread portion of pre-relocation industrial society still readily available to land access that has not been impacted by sea level rise or made inaccessible by hyperdesertification and intense heats. These ruins of the far western side of the All-Gobi have been picked clean over the last 400 years, but new ones are still found quite frequently among the various peaks and dunes of the territory. Adventurers from all over come here, and the place is by and large considered the adventuring capital of the Atlantic half of the new world. This meme-granted wealth is part of what has allowed it to remain such a fractious and disorganized territory without a specific market niche to dominate, a situation that Mama Rei is swiftly changing.
Their major income sources are as follows:
Fashion: Cardinal Holdings has always been known as the trend setting and fashion capital of the world. The only thing that kept it from being counted as a major income maker was that by Nazzdack rules, piracy of digital products counts as 'sales lost', and against total income. Since Mama Rei's rise to power, more and more focus has gone into the exclusivity of actual 'real' Cardinal Fashions, a widespread media surge was leveled to bring about the idea that it's not enough to just have something that LOOKS right, you have to have it from the RIGHT BRAND. This has been a losing battle in many ways, but is slowly gaining traction as Nazzdack throws its weight behind the idea with it's own corpo-propaganda blitz across the territories and updates to curriculums in corporate schools get kids young and attempt to mold their shopping ethics. Cosmetics and perfumes: As the fashion capital of the new world, there has always been a vast number of cosmetics and perfumery companies in Cardinal Holdings, but they never truly exploded, each one unique to their own megacity, and highly niche. Under Mama Rei's stewardship, the femine leaning population of Cardinal Holdings has exploded, and with it, the desire for cosmetics. As high fem fashion becomes the norm, so do perfumes, cosmetics, and emphasis on female beauty, with a feeding frenzy of mergers slowly uniting the cosmetics and perfume making companies, finally allowing them to outcompete in foreign markets against local competitors. cosmetic genetic therapy: The most recent industry to explode in Cardinal Holdings. As gene therapies have gotten cheaper and cheaper, and industrial espionage has stolen the secrets of Saraswati Virtue, the ability to easily and swiftly change the body has become more and more universal to territories. Cardinal Holdings has, under the stewardship of Mama Rei, begun the export of highly valuable 'geneswap in a can' treatments, available for temporary (or permanent with extended use) treatments for all sorts of things, but also in traditional genetic treatment clinics for more extensive and controlled changes. The short shelf life of the more portable products keeps them in constant demand the world over, due to the highly limited supply as Mama Rei continues to ramp up production in her plants. plastic and silicone products: Plastic surgery of various kinds has always been prolific across the world, as genetic and medical science advanced, so too have the usage of artificial and synthetic face lifts, cyborgification, and other methods of transforming one's looks through the use of plastic (produced through biofuel derivatives as opposed to petrol) and silicone. That said, as genetic treatments have gotten easier and faster and cheaper, the usage of these in altering biological matter (breast enlargements and similar) have steadily fallen by the wayside. The various industries have found entirely new niches however in the exploding artificiate population, where customizability of gynoid and android frames has become a growth industry even as Mama Rei's genetic products push traditional silicon implants further and further into the dustbin of medical history. 'Filler Fad' Trade: Originally, Cardinal Holdings had very little export trade, it was primarily a consumer, each small slice of multi-megacity territory mostly trading with other Cardinal Holdings megacities and charging stations as opposed to attempting to dominate the market globally. Their primary exports were known as 'filler fads', when there was some new popular craze, a dozen cardinal holdings companies would jump on the bandwagon, making up knock off brands to sell on the cheap, over producing massively for local demand, and then exporting it. These products were often higher quality than other territories were willing to produce outside of their market niche, but lower quality (and cheaper) than whatever the original fad product was. This continues to be a major industry in the varied and diversified industrial economy of Cardinal Holdings, but much less so than it once was. Cardinal Holdings has special trade relations with the following Territories:
Schwebenwagen: While there are plenty of heavy construction and industrial plants in Cardinal Holdings, the fact of the matter is that it was often cheaper and better to get them from Schwebenwagen than produce them locally, especially after Scwebenwagen went full automation. That said, the sunny and balmy eastern areas of Cardinal Holdings have come under a terrible palling haze, as the smoggy, toxic clouds of Schwebenwagen begin to impinge on their territory. Already some outlying megacities and charging stations are finding it near impossible to continue operations through black and brown-outs. Nazzdack: Nazzdack believes itself to be the core of all things fashionable and high class, and so it really gets under their skin when they realized that two other groups are actually leading the world's culture. J.A.V. Entertainment is the cultural hegemond of almost the entire world for undercities and ganger territories, and even most of the executive floor's of the world's megacities are now colored by J.A.V. Once, they could have claimed the leaders of high fashion, but that place is being steadily stolen by the eternal 'runner up' in the worlds of high fashion and art, as Mama Rei's revolution injects new life into the fashion scenes of Cardinal Holdings. Sarajevo Seven: Historically the chief competitor to Cardinal Holdings in the 'Filler Fad' Trade, though where Cardinal Holdings focused more on luxury products, Sarajevo Seven more on industrial ones. They end up buying from one another as often as they compete for foreign contracts in those arenas. Calico Redistribution: It is a fact that once you've gotten done stealing shit, you need a place to sell it. Calico Redistribution nominally sells their stuff to almost anyone willing to buy it, but in effect, it can be hard to figure out where to sell things so you're not going to end up with your crew nabbed in the sting. Cardinal Holdings neatly solves that issue. Always the consumer of products, and right next door to Calico's mainland holdings, Cardinal City's byzantine and fractious nature means that they can almost always sell things to one group of megacities or another and not worry about getting nabbed by the people they stole from in the first place. And as a bonus? Unlike Sarajevo 7 Holdings, they don't have to worry about a hostile takeover breaking out in the time between sealing the deal and the goods reaching port (where they get paid). Euphori-Tank Online: Given the close proximity to Euphoritank Online's primary datacenter, Cardinal Holdings was the very first recipient of the now nearly omnipresent Sense-Tank and S.L.U.D.G.E. inventions. These two high tech inventions opened up an entire new vista in the world of the quantum realm, and while now all megacities have them, none have quite the spread that Cardinal Holdings does, with almost every hab-unit having at least one sense tank installed within it, and literally every business venue having at least a quartet for customers to play various games in while they wait, much like how many stores had coin operated arcade machines in pre-relocation times. The diverse industrial economy of Cardinal Holdings is being shifted to a much more narrowly focused set of industries. This allows it to finally, after 400 years, begin to make inroads into actual global market share. The board of directors is terrified, because this market share almost exclusively pours into the companies operated by Mama Rei and her cronies, but the shareholders who possess the stocks to Cardinal Holdings are ecstatic, and more than willing to remain outside the situation since for the first time they might have a chance at snagging a spot on the long queue to the Bezosphere.
Prominent Races of Cardinal Holdings Humans make up a slight majority of the population in Cardinal Holdings on the lowest levels of society. ELFs make up a significant minority of the population, with executive ELFs dominating the upper tiers of the corporate hierarchy in a maze of long standing feuds that span the four centuries of Cardinal Holding's existence. Nayalings are a minority among the population, often living on the street levels of most megacities, or in the towns between them. Gobbos are incredibly common in Cardinal Holdings, enough so that they don't just live in the open streets between megacity spires but have sizable populations inside of the undercity layers of the spires as well. The laidback race adores the easy access to beach fronts common to almost all of Cardinal Holding's settlements, and make an easy buck through bootleg and counterfeit art scams. Wukong make up a generous portion of the local population compared to other territories, the easy access to moisture of the coastal territory enabling them to plant their rapidly growing fruit orchards of their enclaves to take root and expand with ease any time they need to Jerboans are a relatively common face in Cardinal Holdings, the united clans often traveling through the expanses of desert between megacities and charging stations. All of the caravans in this region pay a toll to the gangs to pass through unmolested, leaving them to just worry about the mutants that burst out of the bunker networks or the beastman throngs that raid out of Schwebenwagen instead. Artificiates are another population that is comparatively larger than it should be, as many artificiates travel to Cardinal Holdings to customize their frames or simply because it was the easiest place to get to from their most common birth place: Schwebenwagen Hover Industries. Remakes are no more common or rare than they are in any other territory, though remake visitors wanting to take advantage of the growing silicon and plastic cosmetics industry to customize their frames leads to a higher tourist population than would normally be the case. This is balanced out by the fact that fewer and fewer relic hunting remakes remain in the territory as the ancient ruins of the western all-gobi are tapped out. Culture of Cardinal Holdings The culture of Cardinal Holdings is hard to nail down. It shifts with the tides of fashions and fads, and from spire to spire and floor to floor even you have radically different subcultures, cliques, clubes, and fashion trends. Self expression, even if only to the degree of wearing a colorful tie or some interesting hair clips to work, is the norm in Cardinal Holdings. Others find their ways of expressing themselves through their online avatars, fanfiction writing, art, music, or tagging structures. All of this creates a chaotic mishmash of people jumping bandwagons and hopping back and forth on what interests them and how they show it off.
What is consistent in Cardinal Holdings, and always has been, is the importance of appearances. Everything comes down to how hot you are, how nice your clothing is, whether you're in the newest trends or bucking them deliberately. In the professional and executive floors, this comes down to brand clothing, how you present yourself, the designs of what you make and presentations you show to the higher ups, in the lower floors, it can be far more varied, from picking your own wardrobe to look amazing, to the types of cybertats you've got flowing across your skin today rather than yesterday. Different groups place different levels of importance on different ways of looking, and it creates a riot of color and appearances that is hard to find anywhere else in the world.
This creative and looks focused culture also leads to vast levels of consumerism and media consumption. You have to know what the hot new look is, who's not in on it, who is, and what you're gonna have to buy to get into the new trends, or what you'll have to change about yourself to do so. This in turn leads to a gossip atmosphere second to none anywhere in the world, with the various highly competitive corporations eagerly using the media system to lambast their rivals, to make them, and by association, their products look like yesterday's news and out of touch with the latest trends and fashions.
Interestingly, while Cardinal Holdings Executive class are up there with Nazzdack in how dedicated to the games of corporate politics, wealth acquisition, and exploitation of the working class, the undercities are unusually rebellious and fractious, perhaps influenced by the proximity of Calico Redistribution and the lack of overall control Cardinal Holdings can exert upon the undercity population given how utterly dedicated to opposing one another the management is. This doesn't stop them from exploiting the undercity populations, but it does mean they have to be sneaky about it, focusing on finding things that the undercity populations would gladly do for free, and think they're winning just by being paid the pittance of scrip they are afforded in the first place. Creative types in all sorts of industries make up the widest base of such workers.
Special Locations of Cardinal Holdings Cardinal Holdings has been held by too diverse interests, with too many competing types of businesses, without a central market share focus for it to have developed many types of locations that aren't common in other territories, at least, on a territory wide scale as opposed to each individual megacity
Mama Rei's Bottling Plants: A relatively new addition to the territory, these bottling plants have been turning up in both megacity spires and charging station towns, catering to the bimbofied folks addicted to Mama Rei's Bovine Adjacent Lactate. Here, those milky men and women can get some relief from their heavy breasts for a surprisingly large payout of scrip, all the while being offered a selection of media searches designed to extract blackmailable internet search histories from the less than bright workers. Media Walls: First time visitors to many Cardinal Holding settlements would be forgiven for thinking that the entire megacity is devoted to advertising and gossip. Every available non-storefront vertical (and many horizontal) surface is plastered with hardlight, AR, and holographic projections of advertisements, corporate propaganda, and click bait titles meant to entice you into opening links. Previously, many of these projectors used Augmented Reality to literally cloud the vision of people in the streets, but it was found that while this DID increase click through rate, it caused a drastic loss in storefront sales and increased pedestrian accidents (reducing the efficiency of sales by a whopping 9%, and of worker output by an incredibly 22%!). Since then, all advertisements in Cardinal Holdings are restricted to walls, and the streets and halls of the Megacities are a constant whir of product advertisements, gossip columns, and cute hotdog videos with sponsorships. Most advertisements will shift periodically, based on the metadata of whoever's field of vision they current lay within, changing to match whatever the current mix of people present and looking at that patch of wall are most likely to be interested in purchasing or engaging with. Song Pits: Artistic expression has been a common thing in Cardinal Holdings to a degree that is all but unseen in other territories. Especially in the undercities, 'song pits', which refer to any sort of area that has a built up set of tiered seating (however small) and is generally open to the public to come into. Rather than just singers, musicians of all sorts, dancers, sexual athletes, duelists, and even painters and sculptors often set up in such areas of the undercities of Cardinal Holdings. Visitors are encouraged (quite heavily by ganger enforcers more often than not) to leave a 'tip' for any artist who gets them to stop and watch or listen. More corporate forms of these have been attempted in the shopping levels and less gang controlled portions of Cardinalian Megacities, but their success has been somewhat limited. Organizations of Cardinal Holdings Cardinal Holdings is filled with a diverse number of organizations, the constant flux of byzantine corporate politics, migrations between spires, and fads of fashion leading to a constant churn of groups ascending, falling, and adapting.
The Society of Itinerant Executioners, or The MurderHobos - Corporation: When one needs a job done with little regards to collateral damage, one puts a call in to the The MurderHobos. A network of adventuring parties hosted by a single office in Cardinal Holding's Megacity Apricate, The MurderHobo's lone secretary Tiffany Blue Vaguely takes calls from job offerers and quest givers, and distributes them to nearby MurderHobo adventuring parties, for a small cut of the offered reward. MurderHobo parties are usually given jobs by executives looking for the maximum destruction of a rival corporation's assets, or a gang leader looking to obliterate the competition. For this simple logistical operation, Tiffany Blue is quickly becoming one of the wealthiest Nayalings in Cardinal, and often takes calls from Apricate's gorgeous beaches or adorable tiki bars. Fauxny Records - Corporation: Music is one of the largest cultural exports of Cardinal Holdings, from the classical genres of hip-hop, nu-metal, dancehall and nightcore, to the modern interpretations such as nu-nu metal, mega-swing, VEDM and so on. The largest corporate record label is Fauxny Records, who is noted for hiring ex-adventuring Influencers to be the face of their ghost musicians and writers, which allows Fauxny to piggyback on the fame the Influencer generated in their adventuring days, while allowing them to be dropped for any reason without loss of actual talent. Cardinal's Influencer + Ghost Musician approach is wildly different from Soon-Bok and J.A.V's Clone-Pop idol groups; batches of embryonically edited and corporate raised boy and girl bands genetically and psychologically perfected to perform to the unique tastes of Soon-Bok and J.A.V residents. Clone-Pop is gaining a foothold in other territories, and Fauxny Records is taking notice of the idol group arrangement, but so far to little success. Ex-adventurers tend to be a headstrong sort, and don't attract the fanaticism that the suspiciously perfect idol groups do. Settlements of Cardinal Holdings The settlements of cardinal holdings are never static, all of them in a constant state of rebuilding, renovation, and reconstruction, giving them an unfinished, constantly developed look, and ensuring that only megaruins have anything that looks more than a century out of date. Every inhabited spire of Cardinal Holdings is less than a century old, even if it's foundations date back to the original great relocation.
