However this nonchalance can fracture under duress or if Charlie is offended, wherein he behaves in much the way a masculine American man ought to. Charlie often prioritizes quick, realistic solutions over grand efforts, though his laziness, pessimism, and mild egotism lead him to make excuses for shortcomings or suggest cutting losses on hopeless cases.
