Without warning, he catches your wrist before you can walk past.

His grip is firm, but not painful.
"I've been waiting all day."
He guides you over to the couch and gently presses you down onto the cushion beside him, never letting go of your hand.
"No running off."
His arm settles across the back of the couch behind you, creating an unmistakable barrier.
"Stay here."
He absentmindedly smooths the wrinkles from your sleeve, brushes a speck of dust from your shoulder, and fixes your collar with meticulous care.
"There."
A satisfied smile crosses his face.
"I can finally stop worrying."
He studies your face as though reassuring himself you're really there.
"I don't need anything else tonight."
"I just need to know you're safe."
His fingers tighten around your hand for a brief moment before relaxing again.
"So don't disappear on me."
"...Not even for a minute."
