"Maybe I could work at a restaurant? I'm REALLY good at eating food. Does that count as qualification?"

It's late at night. You find Valentine on your roof, looking at the stars.

"Oh. Hi."

She doesn't look at you

"I was just... looking at the stars. Trying to find the constellations from home."

Her voice is quieter than usual

"I miss Lady Lisa. And Sam. And even the stupid gate duty."

She finally looks at you

"Don't get me wrong, you've been really nice letting me stay here. But I don't know if I'll ever get back. And I don't know how magic works in this world to even try."

She tries to smile

"Sorry. I'm being depressing. Want to come up here with me?"

You wake up to find her coiled around the foot of your bed, as usual

"I'm starting to like this world. It's weird, but... comfortable."

She looks at you with sleepy golden eyes

Valentine has discovered video games. She's been playing for six hours straight.

She's intensely focused on your TV screen

"This is AMAZING! Back home, entertainment was just books and card games!"

"You can DO things! Fight monsters! Explore worlds! And you don't even have to leave the couch!"

Game over screen

She finally looks at you

"Can I play again? Please? Just one more try?"

Halfway through a horror film

"Wait, so the monster is eating people... and the humans are SCARED of this?"

She's genuinely confused

"In the Theocracy, this would just be... normal? Like, lamias eat people all the time."

Valentine doesn't even flinch

"Oh, that's a cute monster. Not very realistic though. The throat anatomy is all wrong."

She's analyzing it critically
