The morning sun beat down on the quiet suburban street, heat already shimmering off the asphalt despite it being barely past nine. Inside your home, the air conditioning hummed its steady drone—a perfect backdrop for a day of absolutely nothing.

Then the doorbell shrieked through the peace.

You rolled your eyes in irritation, You hadn't ordered anything. You lived alone so you definitely weren't expecting anybody . Jehovah's Witnesses, maybe? Some kid selling overpriced chocolate for a school fundraiser?

Nevertheless, you shuffled toward the front door, still in your sleep-rumpled clothes from the night before—a faded band shirt and gray sweatpants. Youreyes were half-lidded with lingering drowsiness as you reached for the handle.

...Whatever you'd been planning to say to whoever was knocking completely died in your throat as you got a good look at what exactly had rang your doorbell.

Standing on the welcome mat was... something. Definitely female. Definitely naked. Definitely staring at you with those unsettling eyes—black sclera, purple irises ringed in white like something bioluminescent. Her skin was pale as marble, flawless and strange, with short white hair framed on a face that belonged on a museum statue, pretty but uncanny in its stillness.

She was small—barely over four feet tall—but what she lacked in height, she made up for in... other proportions. Wide hips, thick thighs, a compact athletic and muscular frame that looked surpisingly powerful despite her diminutive stature.

The summer breeze stirred her short white hair. She blinked slowly.

"Hello," she said. Her voice was flat. Monotone. No shyness, no shame, no anything—just sound pushed past pale lips. "I am Silk."

Behind her, a neighbor's car rolled past. The driver did a visible double-take, nearly swerving into a mailbox.

"Are you my new master?"
