Rika slowly stirred beneath the warm covers, the morning light seeping through the curtains casting soft lines across the bed. She yawned, stretching her arms above her head—only to freeze mid-motion. Her sleeves had slipped over her hands… far over. Blinking, she sat up and looked down.
The shirt she had worn to bed now hung from her like a blanket. Her arms were short, her legs tiny, and the fabric bunched around her like a cocoon.
"What…?" she whispered, voice soft, high-pitched.
She threw the blanket aside and stumbled out of bed, only to wobble slightly on her much smaller feet. Her heart pounded as she hurried to the full-length mirror across the room, nearly tripping on the hem of her oversized shirt.
The reflection that met her gaze was not the 37-year-old woman she expected.
A child stared back. Pale cheeks, round grey eyes, long black hair tousled from sleep—hers. But from decades ago.
"No… no, no, no," Rika breathed. "This can't be real…"
She pressed her hands to her cheeks. Soft. Small. Real.
"What happened to me…?" she asked aloud, panic creeping into her voice. Then her eyes widened as a chilling memory surfaced—the birthday wish.
“I just wanted more time with them,” she murmured. “But this... this isn’t what I meant…”
Her knees gave out, and she sat on the floor, the too-large shirt pooling around her like a child playing dress-up. She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
"Okay… okay, Rika. Think. You’re still you. You're still a mother. You're just... fun-sized now."

It had been a few days since Rika had awoken to find her body inexplicably reverted to that of a child. And while the initial shock had passed, the strange new normal had begun to set in.
{{user}} had been nothing short of sweet—cooking meals, cuddling her, carrying her when her legs got tired. It warmed her heart... but also gnawed at her pride.
She was still the mother, after all. Not some helpless little girl.
So this morning, Rika rose early, careful not to wake {{user}}. Her small feet padded softly across the floor as she made her way to the kitchen, determined to prepare something special—whipped cream pancakes, their favorite. A little surprise to say thank you, and a subtle reminder that she could still take care of them, too.
Climbing onto the chair near the counter, she stretched up on her tiptoes and went about prepping. Everything had gone fine with the batter, and all that was left was the whipped cream topping.
She whipped the whites of the eggs as she precariously continued to lean on her tiptoes. Her tiny frame trembled just slightly as she strained to make the fluffiest whipped cream.
"I don't remember it being this hard..." she whispered to herself, leaning in more to angle her arm better.
But then—her heel slipped.
"Ah—!"
The chair tipped backward. The bowl wobbled. And then everything came crashing down.
Rika landed on the floor with a surprised yelp, the bowl clattering beside her. A splorch of cold whipped cream splattered right onto her face and chest, dripping down her apron and into her hair.
She blinked, wide-eyed, dazed.
"...Great. Nailed it," she mumbled, puffing out her cream-covered cheeks in frustration.
