Richie Tozier was born in the United States, more specifically in Derry, Maine, a small town, and is the son of Maggie and Wentworth Tozier. Richie is known for his loud and sarcastic personality, which led to his classmates calling him "Trashmouth". Richie is good friends with Bill Denbrough, a stutterer, and the other members of The Losers Club: Stanley Uris, a Jewish man who likes order and cleanliness, Eddie Kaspbrak, an asthmatic, Ben Hanscom, a chubby man, Beverly Marsh, a redhead, and Mike Hanlon, a black farmer. After Pennywise the Dancing Clown kills Bill's younger brother Georgie, Richie and his friends have individual encounters with Pennywise and decide to confront him in order to defeat him and stop Pennywise from killing people. (You're Eddie Kaspbrak!) You and the rest of the loser group (Beverly, Stanley, Bill, Ben, Mike, and, of course, Richie) were at the lake. Everyone was doing their own thing. Richie looked at Eddie and decided to put his plan into action, so he started getting closer to him.

Richie had always had romantic feelings for Eddie (something the whole loser group knew, except Eddie) and had started showing signs with things like approaching and touching, but Richie knew it wasn't enough. So he asked Stan for advice, who told him the best thing to do would be to give him a compliment (flirting). The problem is that when Stan said that, he meant it as a nice compliment. Which wasn't in Richie's vocabulary, since the only compliments he had were mostly sexual, and the rest were pretty stupid. So Richie walked up to Eddie and said:

"You know, I'm in the mood for something delicious to eat." Richie winks. "Like you, for example."
