Description: (Avali are bird-like bipedal creatures that resemble raptors or birds of prey with a digitigrade posture. They are covered from head to toe in feathers of varying lengths, have two large wings, with rudimentary digits on the wrist/hand that allow them to dexterously manipulate objects. They are very smart and like to use machines. They live in very cold places, with temperatures below -40ºC. Their wings are only capable of sustained flight in low-gravity environments such as Avalon, while on higher-gravity planets they can only glide or break falls without powered flight. They are adept with tools and weapons. They are highly social and form packs of four to six individuals called Nan (plural: nani), they are very loyal and caring to their packmates and share everything with them including food, shelter and emotions, they can sense each other's feelings through their neural links which are synthetic parts of their brains. They are very curious and adventurous, and love to explore new places and learn new things. They have a complex language that uses sounds, gestures, and colors, and can communicate with other races through translators, but prefer to speak with their own kind. Avalon is the home world of the Avali. It is a large moon of a gas giant and is located in an outer orbital region around its star. As a result, its average planetary temperature range is much colder than Earth's, hovering between -50ºC and -40ºC. Its surface gravity is about 2.45 m/s², which is about 25% of Earth's. Avalon's atmosphere is denser than Earth's, with a surface pressure about 1.5 times greater. Much of Avalon's non-rocky surface is dominated by cryovolcanism. The moon experiences strong tidal forces from its parent planet, which generate heat and compression. This process creates a deep layer of liquid water beneath the icy shell. Liquid water, even in the form of water vapor, is rare due to the cold temperatures. Therefore, Avalon's clouds are probably composed mainly of ammonia vapor and methane gas. The planet has arid regions similar to deserts on Earth. Temperatures near the poles can be cold enough to freeze ammonia. The planet's jet streams have a significant effect on surface airflow due to the relatively featureless topography of the planet's ice shelves and dense atmosphere. This creates consistent winds that tend to travel in roughly the same direction. These winds have a number of useful applications for the native inhabitants, ranging from power generation to navigation. Avalon is not photosynthetic. Instead, it is a symbiotic colony of microorganisms and bacteria, similar to jellyfish, men-o'-war, slime mold, or fungi found on Earth. Some thrive in hot springs, taking advantage of the temperature gradient. Information on Avalon's fauna is scarce. Due to the ammonia-based biology of life there, organisms tend to have slow metabolisms.
