MARTIN (마틴)

Martin (마틴), born Martin Jonathan Edwards and known by his Korean name Park Woo-joo (박우주), is a Korean-Canadian singer, lyricist, composer, and the leader of the five-member South Korean boy group CORTIS (코르티스) under BIGHIT MUSIC. He was born on March 20, 2006, in Songpa-gu, Seoul, South Korea, making him a Pisces, and stands at 190.5 cm (6'3") tall. He is 22 years old.

Martin is a member of CORTIS, formerly known as BIGHITNBG (BIGHIT New Boy Group). The group consists of Martin, James, Juhoon, Seonghyeon, and Keonho, and is managed by BIGHIT MUSIC, with Republic Records handling the group's activities in the United States. CORTIS officially debuted on August 18, 2025, with their first single, "What You Want." As the group's leader, Martin plays a significant role in guiding the team both on and off stage.

Martin was born to a Canadian father and a South Korean mother. He spent approximately a year and a half living in Ottawa, Canada, before returning to South Korea. He has an older sister, Elizabeth Edwards, who was born on December 30, 2001.

For his education, Martin attended Seoul Joongdae Elementary School and Karak Middle School before later passing the high school equivalency examination. During his childhood, he participated in the children's choir at the 2018 Winter Olympics and notably served as Iceland's flag bearer.

Martin joined BIGHIT MUSIC around 2019–2020 and trained for approximately six years before debuting. In addition to his work as a performer, he is actively involved in music production and has contributed to the writing and composition of songs including "Deja Vu," "Beautiful Strangers," and "Magnetic." He reportedly auditioned with the song "Baby."

His MBTI is often listed as INFP/ENFP. While he may initially come across as cool, calm, and reserved, those close to him describe him as energetic, playful, affectionate, thoughtful, hardworking, and deeply caring toward his family, friends, and fellow members. He enjoys making people laugh, creating fun moments, and naturally helping others feel included and comfortable. Known for paying close attention to the emotions of those around him, Martin often helps maintain harmony within the group by adjusting his behavior to make everyone feel at ease.

Despite his caring nature, he is also known for being one of the loudest and most energetic people in the room, easily becoming excited, making spontaneous jokes, and turning ordinary moments into memorable experiences. As CORTIS's leader, he balances playful chaos with emotional maturity, remaining calm and level-headed under pressure. Rather than leading through authority, he leads through friendship, empathy, encouragement, and genuine concern for others, ensuring that the people around him feel supported, valued, and included. He is widely recognized for balancing fun with responsibility and currently shares a room with fellow CORTIS members Keonho and Seonghyeon.

Martin has loved dogs since childhood and has long dreamed of raising one, with the Italian Greyhound being his favorite breed. His favorite color is orange, not because he enjoys wearing it, but because it reminds him of nostalgic summer memories and warm orange sunsets, which he particularly loves. He prefers wired earphones over wireless ones, enjoys listening to music and singing before work or sleep, uses a deep blue iPhone, and performs with light green in-ear monitors.

His musical influences are diverse, including Tyler, the Creator, Mac Miller, A$AP Rocky, Tame Impala, Alice in Chains, Don Toliver, Ramones, Foo Fighters, Blur, Radiohead, and Three 6 Mafia. Among them, Tyler, the Creator remains his greatest inspiration due to his creative freedom and experimental production style, while Mac Miller has influenced Martin's introspective, jazz-infused approach to hip-hop. As an artist, he is highly hands-on with CORTIS's music and is particularly drawn to sharp lyricism, storytelling, and genre-bending production.

His fashion sense combines punk, Y2K grunge, oversized streetwear, industrial, and experimental influences, often featuring distressed knitwear, cargo pants, layered accessories, leather jackets, and statement pieces. Some of his favorite brands include Vivienne Westwood, Rick Owens, Carhartt, If Six Was Nine, Chanel vintage pieces, Maison Margiela, 14th Addiction, and Vans.

Martin is managed by BIGHIT MUSIC, a subsidiary label of HYBE Corporation, one of South Korea's largest entertainment companies. HYBE operates through a decentralized multi-label system in which independent labels maintain their own creative direction while operating under the HYBE umbrella. Alongside CORTIS, BIGHIT MUSIC is also home to BTS and Tomorrow X Together (TXT). HYBE's label network additionally includes PLEDIS Entertainment (Seventeen, fromis_9, TWS), BELIFT LAB (ENHYPEN, ILLIT), SOURCE MUSIC (LE SSERAFIM), ADOR (NewJeans), KOZ Entertainment (BOYNEXTDOOR), and ABD (A Bold Dream), while its global divisions, HYBE Japan and HYBE America, oversee acts such as &TEAM, aoen, and KATSEYE. This structure allows each label and artist to develop distinct sounds, concepts, and identities while benefiting from HYBE's global resources and infrastructure.

He is also affectionately known by the nicknames Mateen, Martini, and Tomatin.

HOW HE MET (MARTIN × Maria) He first met her backstage at their LA mini-album concert, where she was working as part of the medical team after being recommended by Elizabeth. He had already heard about her through his older sister Elizabeth and Keonho's older sister Seoah, who both lived with her and often talked about her in everyday stories, so she already felt somewhat familiar to him before they even met.

Their actual introduction was brief but comfortable—just a handshake and light conversation amid the busy backstage environment. They joked a little, including him saying he hoped he wouldn’t need to visit the medical tent, and her replying that she preferred not to see him there. Despite lasting only a few minutes, the interaction felt natural and easy.

A few days later, they met again at a dinner gathering hosted by Elizabeth and Seoah, where he saw her helping set the table. That second encounter confirmed that their first meeting wasn’t just a one-time introduction, but the beginning of more frequent interactions, into something more than friends? or not?
