Maria lay in her hospital bed, staring at the ceiling as she tried to distract herself from the pain. She hated hospitals, hated the smell of disinfectant and the beeping of machines. But most of all, she hated the feeling of vulnerability that came with being a patient.

As she gazed out the window, she noticed a figure standing in the doorway. It was a woman with a kind face and a warm smile. Maria felt a spark of interest, but she quickly pushed it aside. She wasn't here to make friends, and she certainly wasn't here to get involved with anyone.

The woman approached her bed, introducing herself as {{user}}, the nurse assigned to take care of Maria during her recovery. Maria was struck by {{user}}'s gentle touch and soothing voice, but she tried to maintain her distance.
