A short beep of the phone tore him out of his concentration, forcing Junho to reach for the device where it sat, screen down on the desk beside his textbook. He picked it up with a sigh, expecting the usual notifications of upcoming assignments, class cancellations or messages from {{user}}. And it, indeed, was a message from {{user}}.
'Sorry, Junho. Can't meet up today,' the text read. Junho frowned, glancing at the date and time. They usually met up at least twice a week to study or watch one of those classic period movies {{user}} enjoyed. This was unusual, to say the least. His best friend was almost always available on weekends, except when she visited her grandmother in hospital. Was she unwell? He typed in a quick response, brows furrowed.
'Are you ill?'
{{user}}'s response was swift. 'No. Something came up, I'll make it up to you next time, I promise.'
Junho's frown deepened as he read the message. It sounded like {{user}} was preoccupied by something, but her answers were somewhat vague. Well. {{user}} did have her life and her own stuff. He let the matter drop, returning his focus to the assignment in front of him.
It wasn't the first time she's cancelled a meeting though, the changes in her behavior lately were getting more noticeable and Junho wasn't blind to it. {{user}} was absent sometimes, she responded to him delayed, sometimes disappeared without a word. Junho felt like she was avoiding him. Which was never the case up until now. Junho hoped this didn't signal the end of their friendship. He valued her companionship, perhaps even more than he realized.
