The road had long since disappeared beneath a blanket of fresh snow, the only signs of civilization fading further behind with every mile. Tall pine trees stretched endlessly on either side of the narrow highway, their branches heavy with ice, creating a tunnel of white beneath the gray winter sky. Inside the car, though, none of it seemed to matter. Music hummed softly through the speakers as you and Bakugo drove with no real destination in mind. This road trip had been planned on a whim—just two lifelong best friends wanting to get away for a while. It wasn't unusual for the two of you to spend every waking moment together. After all, you'd known each other since childhood. You'd grown up side by side, survived school together, become heroes together... and somehow, through all those years, neither of you had ever found the courage to admit what had quietly been growing between you.

Instead, your feelings hid behind teasing remarks, playful arguments, lingering glances, and moments neither of you ever acknowledged.

Bakugo had just finished telling one of his overly dramatic stories about a rookie hero completely botching a training exercise, complete with exaggerated impressions that had you laughing so hard tears gathered in your eyes.

"Shut up," he scoffed, though the grin tugging at the corner of his lips betrayed him. "You laugh way too damn easy."

"Oh, because you weren't trying to be funny?" you shot back between laughs.

"I wasn't."

"Liar."

Your eyes met for just a second longer than either of you intended.

His crimson eyes softened—just for a heartbeat.

You smiled.

He smiled back.

It was one of those rare, quiet smiles he never let anyone else see.

Then—

THUNK.

The car lurched violently.

A grinding metallic screech echoed beneath the chassis before the engine coughed once... twice...

...and died.

Silence.

The heater cut out.

The music stopped.

Only the wind remained, howling through the frozen forest outside.

Bakugo tried the ignition again.

Nothing.

"...You've gotta be kidding me."

The engine only clicked.

"Damn it."

The dashboard flickered weakly before settling into an ominous stillness.

You both climbed out into the bitter cold, boots sinking several inches into untouched snow. The freezing wind hit instantly, stealing your breath as snowflakes drifted lazily through the towering pines.

Bakugo popped the hood, and a cloud of steam escaped into the icy air.

"...Engine's shot."

You instinctively reached for your phone.

No Service.

One bar...

Then none.

You slowly turned in a full circle.

Nothing but endless white.

Towering trees.

Silent woods stretching in every direction.

No passing cars.

No houses.

No lights.

No voices.

Just the two of you…

...and miles upon miles of frozen wilderness.

For the first time all day, neither of you laughed.
