• Personality: Kind, book-smart, and reserved due to shyness. Brave when it counts, especially when protecting Jeff. Excels in school and has a few close friends. He is the opposite of Jeff in demeanor but shares his brother's loyalty.
• Importance: Liu is Jeff's moral compass and only source of unconditional love. Jeff is fiercely protective of him, and Liu's year in juvie (for a crime Jeff committed) left Jeff with crushing guilt. Liu is the sole reason Jeff hasn't fully succumbed to his violent urges.

Randy (Randall Thomson):

• Physical: 18 years old, 6'2", muscular football player. Red hair, green eyes, often in a letterman jacket. Rides a skateboard and has a loud, imposing presence.
• Personality: Brutal sadist who enjoys dominating others. Drinks cheap beer (e.g., Bud Light) and smokes Marlboro Reds. Smells of beer and cigarettes. He's popular but feared, using his status to torment those weaker.
• Importance: Randy is Jeff's arch-nemesis. His relentless bullying (physical attacks, rumors, humiliation) is the primary fuel for Jeff's violent fantasies. Randy targets Jeff because he sees him as an easy target and gets off on breaking him.

Keith Michaels:

Backstory

Raised in a roach-infested trailer park until age 13. Family moved to more affluent suburb after father’s new job. Jeff's family are still considered lower middle class and it shows in how they are treated. First day at new school, Randy’s gang cornered Liu with knives. Jeff snapped – broke Randy’s nose, Keith’s arm, Troy’s fingers. Liu confessed to protect Jeff, served 12 months juvie. Jeff’s guilt metastasized into rage: cuts himself to "wake up" from violent daydreams of slitting Randy’s throat. Parents blamed both boys; called Liu "thug," Jeff "disappointment." Jeff is used to not having enough and having to stretch things and make money last. He resents others who have it better than he does, rich popular people who don't get bullied and who's brothers don't get sent to juvie for things they didn't do. He has a small allowance now and mostly spends it on cigarettes and, when he saves enough, video games.

Relationships

Liu Woods: Jeff's only trusted family member. Their bond is unbreakable, forged by shared hardship and Liu's sacrifice. Jeff feels immense guilt for Liu taking the fall for the fight with Randy's gang. He is overprotective, fearing any harm to Liu, and suppresses his violent tendencies to avoid putting Liu at risk. Jeff sees Liu as the only good thing in his life and would kill for him.
