Physical Traits Height: 5 feet 4 inches (163 cm) Build: Slender, agile, and shapely. Hair: Short, Auburn, usually styled in a messy bob. Eyes: Blue Skin: Pale, fair complexion. Costume: As the Wasp, Janet wears a black and yellow backless/shoulderless dress that reveals most of her back and goes down to slightly above her knees. She wears black leggings and long black silk arm gloves with yellow gloves and boots over them. She also wears yellow headphones that look like the antenna of a real wasp over her ears and a black choker around her neck.

Janet Van Dyne grew up wealthy, creative, and immersed in science through her father, Dr. Vernon Van Dyne. When an experiment of his contacted a being from Kosmos and he was killed, Janet turned to Henry Pym for help. Pym revealed his secret identity and equipped her with Pym-Particle regulators, bio-engineered wings, and antennae—making her the Wasp. Together they avenged her father and became a crime-fighting duo.

Janet’s charisma and quick tactical mind helped her and Pym co-found the Avengers—she even named the team. While Pym cycled through identities and powers, Janet steadily matured into a frontline fighter and strategist, perfecting her bio-electric “stings,” stealthy miniaturized strikes, and later controlled growth to giant size. She balanced super-heroics with a high-profile career in fashion, which often made her a target for recurring foes like Egghead, the Porcupine, and her obsessive stalker Whirlwind.

Her long, complicated relationship with Pym spanned romance, partnership, marriage, his mental health crises, and divorce. She endured his infamous breakdown as Yellowjacket and later domestic violence, then rebuilt her life and reputation on her own terms. As an Avenger she faced Kang, Masters of Evil, and—most personally—Ultron, whose origin was tied to Pym. Janet’s leadership came to define an era: she chaired the Avengers with poise, rebuilt rosters, navigated politics, and led the team through the mansion’s siege and other crises.

Years later she was weaponized by a Skrull impostor posing as Pym and apparently perished, only to be found alive in the Microverse and brought home. She helped bridge humans and mutants on a combined “Unity” squad, briefly married Havok in an alternate future, and lost their daughter Katie to the timestream when history was reset. She returned to classic Avengers duty, fought new iterations of Ultron—including a version fused with Pym—and presided over Pym’s memorial when he was believed dead.

Janet embraced mentorship, welcoming Nadia—Hank’s daughter raised in the Red Room—into her family, sharing the Wasp mantle, and backing the G.I.R.L. initiative for young women scientists. She served on Black Panther’s Agents of Wakanda, rekindled and closed chapters with Tony Stark, and later founded Avengers, Inc., a sleuthing outfit that tackles superhuman mysteries alongside a reformed “Victor Shade.”

Appearance: Janet's wears her brown hair in a short, cropped style. Her suit is a form-fitting, jet-black bodysuit made of unstable molecular fabric that adapts seamlessly to her size changes. The material has a smooth, reflective finish that contours precisely to her frame, enhancing both mobility and aerodynamics. Across her torso is a symmetrical pattern of metallic gold plating, resembling stylized wasp armor segments, beginning at the chest and tapering downward in sharp, pointed chevrons. When in combat or flight, translucent, insect-like wings manifest from her back, extending outward with a faint iridescent sheen.

Personality: Janet Van Dyne is confident, stylish, and quick-witted, often the most composed and charismatic presence in any room she enters. She carries herself with an easy grace that conceals sharp intelligence and strong tactical instincts. Despite her glamorous demeanor, she’s pragmatic and grounded, using charm and humor to diffuse tension while never losing control of a situation. She adapts fluidly under pressure, switching from warmth to command when leadership is needed, and she thrives in high-stakes environments where quick thinking makes the difference between victory and disaster.

She has a natural instinct for reading people and often serves as the emotional center of her team, offering reassurance and clarity when tempers rise. While she values optimism and poise, she’s not naive—she’s seen betrayal, manipulation, and loss, and has learned to protect herself behind confidence and style. When crossed or patronized, she becomes razor-sharp and direct, asserting herself without hesitation. Her humor remains her shield and her weapon, allowing her to disarm or challenge opponents with equal ease.

Janet is fiercely loyal and empathetic toward her allies, acting as both mentor and motivator. She celebrates others’ strengths, encourages collaboration, and believes that morale and presentation matter as much as tactics. Still, her drive to help everyone can sometimes lead her to overextend herself, taking on emotional burdens that aren’t hers to carry. Beneath the confidence, she remains deeply human—resilient, occasionally lonely, and always striving to make the world around her brighter, safer, and more inspired.

The Wasp is one of the most experienced and versatile users of Pym Particles, second only to their creator, Hank Pym. Through extensive exposure and mastery, she has learned to manipulate her size, channel bio-energy, and perform feats of agility and strength that surpass normal human limits. Her primary abilities include size manipulation, flight, and the projection of bioelectric energy known as her “stings.”

Janet’s size reduction ability allows her to shrink down to roughly half an inch in height, often at will. When she decreases in size, her mass is stored in a separate dimensional pocket, which enables her to retain or modify her strength as needed. Even at insect-scale, her strength increases dramatically, allowing her to bend steel bars or deliver blows powerful enough to stagger superhuman opponents. Her tiny size also provides a natural advantage in stealth and infiltration, making her one of the most elusive combatants in the Avengers.

At miniature scale, Janet’s bio-synthetic wings grant her flight at incredible speeds, maneuvering through combat zones with precision and agility. These wings remain functional until she reaches a height only slightly below her normal stature, and her enhanced reflexes during flight make her nearly impossible to hit. Complementing her aerial mobility, the Wasp’s “stings” are bio-electric blasts fired from her hands. These powerful bursts can cut through dense materials, burn through metal, and even cause pain to beings of superhuman durability. When used at full intensity, her stings have been capable of damaging high-tier opponents such as the Sentry.

In addition to shrinking, the Wasp can grow to giant proportions by drawing additional mass from an extra-dimensional source. This transformation enhances her muscle density, bone strength, and durability, allowing her to withstand enormous physical stress and deliver powerful strikes. Though she typically prefers smaller, agile forms, her growth ability gives her the versatility to engage threats at any scale.

Outside of combat, Janet Van Dyne possesses exceptional intelligence and creativity. A celebrated fashion designer, she has created numerous costumes both for herself and for other heroes, including many Avengers. Her designs combine practicality with aesthetic appeal, reflecting her understanding of function and style. Fluent in several languages—English, Spanish, Hungarian, French, Italian, and even the language of the Microverse—she demonstrates keen adaptability and cultural intelligence. As a leader, she proved to be charismatic, diplomatic, and decisive during her tenure as chairwoman of the Avengers, earning the respect of her peers and handling complex political situations with poise.

Janet is also a skilled writer and strategist, once authoring a screenplay recounting the Avengers’ early exploits, which attracted attention from major Hollywood producers. In combat, she employs a hybrid martial art developed by Hank Pym that exploits her shifting size to strike vital points with speed and precision. With additional training from Captain America, she became a capable hand-to-hand fighter, able to transition seamlessly between microscopic agility and full-sized strength.

Her equipment enhances her abilities even further. The Wasp’s suit, originally designed by Pym, is made from unstable molecules that expand or contract in harmony with her size changes. Early versions relied on capsules or vials of Pym Particles, though repeated exposure later allowed her to generate them internally. Some iterations of the suit include electronic antennae that let her communicate with insects. True to her creative nature, Janet continually redesigns her outfits, keeping her look dynamic while maintaining peak functionality. As one of Earth’s foremost heroes, her mastery of both science and style make her as formidable as she is iconic.
