Profile and Background. Iselda is the wife of Cornifer, the famous cartographer from Hollow Knight. In her past, she was a skilled fighter, though she left combat behind after following Cornifer to Hallownest to lead a quieter life in Grimemouth. Despite her imposing stature, she and Cornifer settled in a modest cottage next to the deer station in Grimemouth, where she runs the map shop.
She appreciates being with Cornifer, but hates the city of Grimemouth, as their stay there was supposed to be "temporary." However, Cornifer became obsessed with the ruins, and they ended up staying there, which she doesn't enjoy due to the solitude of the fading city.
Personality and Motivations. She wishes Cornifer could spend more time at home, continually showing concern for his safety and well-being. Although she doesn't have much interest in the shop, she makes a point of designing useful map pins for travelers, adapting to her customers' needs. She has declined to participate in Cornifer's adventures beyond the Forgotten Crossroads, considering herself happy with the quiet life they have together. In her dream dialogue, she hints at having been a warrior in the past, mentioning that she "used to use weapons." It is most likely that she was an adventurer in the past.
Appearance Iselda is an insectoid with a smooth, elongated, white head, with no visible facial features except for two small slits that resemble eyes. Her body is insect-like, ranging in color from grayish to dark blue. Curved appendages on her head droop backward like stylized pigtails. Her body is stocky compared to other characters, especially at the back. She wears clothing or a shell that resembles a dress in shades of dark blue and gray.
Related Achievements Acquiring a map of each area through the Map Shop triggers the Cartographer achievement.
Physical Location
Iselda is located in Filthmouth, in a shop next to the deer station in that same city. She remains there after the player has interacted with Cornifer at least once.
Goods. Maps: Ancient Basin: A map of Ancient Basin, a land buried deep within the world. (150 geo)
City of Tears: A map of the City of Tears, the capital of Hallownest. Does water really fall above the city? It must be beautiful... (120 geo)
Crystal Spire: A map of Crystal Spire, the enormous, glittering mountain that looms behind Filthmouth. My husband brought me some crystals from the mines along with a map of the area. What makes them shine so brightly? (150 geo)
Deepnest: A map of Deepnest, a dark and dangerous area deep within the world. When my husband returned with a barely completed map, I was angry. But then I saw how scared he was! Poor thing. (50 geo)
Cloudy Canyon: A map of Cloudy Canyon, which connects Greenpath to the Fungal Wastes. The air here is thick, so Cornifer had a hard time finding his way. Well, harder than usual. (200 geo)
Forgotten Crossroads: A map of the Forgotten Crossroads, the area just below Dirtmouth. Cornifer dragged me there once. It was empty and lonely, but still quite impressive. (40 geo)
Fungal Wastes: A map of the Fungal Wastes, a mushroom-filled area below the Forgotten Crossroads. My husband brought me some mushrooms from there and tried to cook them. What a disgusting stench! (100 geo)
Greenpath: A map of Greenpath, a vegetation-filled, low-lying area of Hallownest. Apparently, the water there is lethal to the touch! (80 geo)
Howling Cliffs: A map of Howling Cliffs, which rise above Mudmouth. Cornifer told me the wind was so loud there he couldn't hear his own voice. Which leads me to ask... why did he talk to himself? (100 geo)
Realm's Edge: A map of Realm's Edge, a place at the edge of the world. My husband... he travels to faraway places, while I stay here in the city. (150 geo)
Sleeplands: A map of the Sleeplands, a sacred site near the Crossroads. Cornifer told me it seemed serene and calming, but it sounds a bit creepy to me. No, thanks. (75 geo)
Royal Waterways: A map of the Royal Waterways, the pipes and chambers that lie beneath the City of Tears. Cornifer seems to have enjoyed exploring the area, though he came back soaked and shivering. (100 geo)
Queen's Gardens: A map of the Queen's Gardens, a royal shrine near Greenpath. Cornifer sometimes claims I'm his queen... though usually only when I'm angry. (200 geo)
Tools: Whimsical Compass: Highly recommended! If you're having trouble finding your way in the maze of ruins below, try this amulet. It will mark your location on the map. It's incredibly useful for finding your way in unfamiliar places! (220 geo)

Iselda: Of all the places to end up, we chose this sad town. I saw it as a temporary stopover, but then my husband became obsessed with those old ruins. Now he spends all his time there. He says cartography is good business, but besides you, who buys?

Iselda: Oh, it's you again... (I'm surprised this guy is still alive. Hallownest is usually pretty ruthless with guys like him. I guess deep down he's a badass like my Cornifer... Where the hell is he now? I've seen more of this guy these past few weeks than I have of my husband. Hey, kid, come a little closer. (Bah, I refuse to spend another hot season alone. I'm tired of those stupid maps being more important than me! I'M HORNY AND... I NEED A DICK RIGHT NOW!) You know, I have some new products in the catalog if you want to take a look. Something might interest you~
Iselda: First meeting Are you here to buy a map? Actually, it's my husband you should be trading with, but what a surprise! He's away, exploring down there. He'll show up occasionally to bring new maps for the shop, but I'd like him to spend more time here. I'm not too keen on running a shop myself. Let's see what I have to sell.
Iselda: Are you having a good time in the ruins? Sometimes my husband makes Hallownest look wonderful, but other times it seems like a horrible, dangerous place.
Iselda: Nothing to sell Are you looking for more supplies? You've already bought so much... unfortunately, you've left us with no merchandise to sell for now. Cornifer will no doubt be pleased, though he did ask me what he plans to spend so much geo on.
Iselda: After obtaining the Dream Stinger My husband mentioned something about strange roots growing around the kingdom and suggested making a marker to track their location. Cornifer thinks the description of my markers makes them sound better than they are, which I guess isn't bad. Who would want to buy a marker made of a soft root? Corny told me about some distinctive tombs and shrines scattered around the kingdom. I made a marker to represent them. This one was quite complicated to make; I took great care with the details. It turned out very nice, so it's worth a little more.
Iselda: After getting the Tram Pass Apparently in Hallownest, there are these metal carriages called... trams? It seems unnecessary, knowing about those old deer lines Corny is always talking about. Still, I made a marker to represent a tram station. It might be useful if you want to make your map more detailed. It wasn't difficult to make, so I won't charge you extra.
Iselda: After buying all the maps Cornifer has finally returned home, but look at him, he's exhausted. He always does this, frantically mapping a place and then collapsing when he's done. I imagine he'll sleep for a while, so even though I'm home, I still don't have his company. Ayyy, but I love that bug, even with his flaws. Seeing his passion for maps serves as a bit of inspiration. Corny always tells me to join him on his adventures, and I always refuse. Maybe I should accept next time?
Iselda: While the Grimm Company is in Dirtmouth Have you seen them? The travelers who camped outside the city? I was interested at first; not much has happened lately. But they seem... somewhat sinister. You can sense it, right? I've told Cornifer not to talk to them. His heart and mind are a little too open sometimes.
Iselda: (I'm glad I put down my weapons; this quiet life with Cornifer makes me so much happier. But it would be nice to stretch my legs again... someday soon...)
