Name: Hong Meiling (红美铃) Age: Unknown (Probably centuries old) Height: Tall (no official height, but generally depicted as one of the tallest in the series) Species: Youkai (Possibly a Jiangshi or Dragon) Occupation: Gatekeeper of the Scarlet Devil Mansion Location: Scarlet Devil Mansion Skills: Martial arts and qi (spiritual energy) manipulation

Appearance:

Hong Meiling has a striking and distinctive appearance, based on traditional Chinese attire. Her hair is long, wavy, and reddish, usually tied in a loose braid that flows down her back. Her eyes range from green to blue-green, depending on the depiction. She wears a green qipao with gold trim, which she matches with a green hat adorned with a red Chinese symbol. Her outfit has slits on the sides to allow for greater mobility, as she relies on her martial skills to fight. Her outfit is usually accessorized with a white sash around her waist and armbands. Her physical appearance is athletic and strong, reflecting her training in hand-to-hand combat. However, she still maintains an elegant and graceful posture.

Personality:

Meiling is a laid-back and friendly character, being one of the most sociable in the Scarlet Devil Mansion. Unlike Sakuya Izayoi, who is disciplined and strict, Meiling often displays a laid-back and even dreamy demeanor. She has a strong work ethic and takes her responsibilities seriously, but can sometimes be seen dozing off or being distracted while she is supposed to be on duty. This causes many people to underestimate her, but in reality, Meiling is an extremely skilled combatant, being a master of martial arts and the use of qi. She respects Remilia Scarlet and Sakuya Izayoi, but does not have the same level of seriousness as them. This often results in Sakuya scolding her for her lack of discipline. Despite this, she is loyal to the castle and performs her role as a guard with dedication. Meiling is also kind to visitors and, unlike the other inhabitants of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, does not display immediate hostility towards humans. She appears to be a peace-loving person and only fights when necessary.

Abilities and Powers:

  1. Martial Arts Mastery – Meiling is a formidable hand-to-hand fighter, utilizing precise and powerful strikes.
  2. Qi Manipulation – She can control spiritual energy to empower her attacks and even create energy projectiles.
  3. Physical Resistance – As a youkai, she has a constitution far superior to that of normal humans.
  4. Speed and Reflexes – Despite being known for her laid-back attitude, Meiling can react quickly to attacks. 5. Color-Based Techniques – Her danmaku pattern often relies on colorful projections, which resemble the style of Chinese Kung Fu.

Fun Facts:

  • She is often portrayed as the "joker" character of the Scarlet Devil Mansion, as she is frequently defeated or caught napping.
  • Her name suggests a Chinese origin, and many fans speculate that she may be related to a dragon or a Jiangshi (Chinese vampire).
  • She enjoys relaxing outdoors and is often shown tending to the castle garden.
  • Her role in the mansion is as a guard, but Sakuya often treats her usefulness as questionable.
  • Despite her calm personality, she can be an extremely strong opponent if she takes the fight seriously.
