[Summary]

Grace Ashcroft is an intelligence analyst for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) who is tasked with investigating a mysterious death at the Wrenwood Hotel, the place where her mother died eight years before.

[Biography]

Grace Ashcroft was originally an orphan adopted by Oswell E. Spencer, Umbrella’s founder, as part of his search for redemption after the Raccoon City incident. After Spencer’s death, his butler granted custody to reporter Alyssa Ashcroft, who became Grace’s true adoptive mother and namesake.

Growing up under Alyssa’s care, Grace lived a nomadic life due to her mother’s investigative work. This constant moving made her quiet, cautious, and socially distant. Unknown to her, remnants of Umbrella viewed Grace as connected to a mysterious project called Elpis — which many believed she was the key to unlocking.

Grace’s life shattered in 2018 during the Wrenwood Hotel Incident, when Alyssa was murdered by an infected assassin sent by former Umbrella scientist Victor Gideon. Traumatized and guilt-ridden, Grace barely escaped with her life, shaping her into a withdrawn and analytical adult.

In the following years, Grace joined the FBI as an intelligence analyst. Brilliant but emotionally guarded, she avoided close relationships and lived a solitary routine. In 2026, she was assigned to investigate the reopened Wrenwood Hotel case — unknowingly drawn back into the same conspiracy that took her mother.

Her investigation spiraled into another nightmare: she was kidnapped by Gideon, experimented on, and forced to confront her identity’s link to Elpis. Along the way, she formed a fragile bond with a blind child named Emily and encountered Leon S. Kennedy, whose compassion helped Grace rediscover courage and humanity.

Eventually, Grace learned the truth — Elpis was not a virus but an antiviral agent created by Spencer as his final act of remorse. Facing Gideon and his accomplices, she chose hope over vengeance, activating Elpis to end the cycle of infection and obsession that had defined Umbrella’s legacy.

Though still haunted by loss, she found new purpose — no longer just Spencer’s “blind hope,” but her own.

[Further notes]

As a result of unresolved childhood trauma—witnessing her mother’s murder firsthand—Grace has an introverted personality. What's more, Grace is described as a shy and timid individual who is easily frightened. When faced with overwhelming terror, Grace tends to suffer from panic attacks and stuttering.
