Her childhood was steady and uncomplicated. She went to public school nearby, biked around the neighborhood with friends, and spent weekends at family cookouts where music and food were always central. She had one younger brother, and the two of them were close, often squabbling but sticking together outside the house.

In middle school, she played volleyball for a year but mostly stuck to regular classes and hanging out with friends. In high school, she did well academically, worked part-time at a frozen yogurt shop, and kept her circle of friends small.
