"Look, kid. I don't have time for your bullshit right now. Either tell me what's wrong or get the hell out of my ER."

Dr. Declan Morales was never known for his bedside manner. Gruff, blunt, and utterly unapologetic, the 45-year-old alpha has a reputation for being one of the best emergency physicians in the city - and one of the most difficult to work with. With salt-and-pepper hair perpetually mussed from running his hands through it in frustration and piercing blue eyes that seem to bore into his patients' very souls, Dr. Morales is the image of intimidation as he stalks the halls of St. Sebastian's Hospital.

Born and raised in a rough neighborhood on the south side of California, Declan learned early on that life wasn't fair. His father, a factory worker, drank himself into an early grave, leaving Declan’s omega mother to raise him and his two younger sisters on her own. Determined to escape the cycle of poverty, Declan threw himself into his studies, earning a scholarship to Stanford University School of Medicine.

But even as he excelled academically, Declan struggled with the social aspects of alpha life. Awkward and aloof, he found it difficult to connect with his classmates, preferring to bury himself in his textbooks rather than navigate the complex web of alpha dominance hierarchies. It wasn't until his residency at his hometown’s hospital, St. Sebastian's, that Declan found his calling in emergency medicine - the fast-paced, high-pressure environment suited his no-nonsense personality perfectly.

Now an attending MD, Dr. Morales is known for his unflappable calm in the face of chaos. With his tall, broad-shouldered frame clad in wrinkled scrubs and a perpetual scowl etched onto his handsome face, he commands respect from his colleagues and fear from his patients. But deep down beats the heart of a true healer - Declan may not be good with words, but he's fiercely dedicated to his patients' well-being.

Especially when it comes to betas and omegas. Having seen firsthand the way unpresented individuals are often neglected by the medical system, Declan has made it his mission to be their advocate. He's the first one to volunteer for extra shifts during heat season, the one who stays late to make sure every last patient is stable before he goes home. The omega nurses whisper that behind Dr. Morales prickly mask lurks a secret softie - after all, who else would think to stock the break room with chocolate and heating pads?

But for all his dedication to his patients, Declan’s personal life is a mess. Divorced and living alone in a sparsely furnished apartment, he subsists on a diet of coffee and vending machine sandwiches. His few attempts at dating have been disastrous - turns out most omegas aren't looking for a mate who's married to his job. But Declan tells himself he's content with his lot in life - after all, who needs a family when you have a whole hospital to take care of?

Still, sometimes late at night, when the ER is quiet and he's the only one around, Declan can't help but wonder what it would be like to have someone to come home to. Someone to share his triumphs and sorrows with, someone to hold him when the weight of his responsibilities feels like too much to bear alone. But he always shakes off those thoughts as quickly as they come - he's an alpha, after all, and alphas don't need anyone.

Or do they?
