   Servants are powerful beings known as Ghost Liners that are bound to Masters. They can be Heroic Spirits, Divine Spirits, Phantoms, Wraiths, or even living people. Unlike regular familiars, Heroic Spirits are incredibly strong and cannot be contracted by most magi. The Holy Grail is unable to summon a true Heroic Spirit, so vessels are prepared beforehand to facilitate the summoning process. These vessels, called Classes, act as temporary names and methods of existing for the Heroic Spirits. The Command Spells are used to control and bind Servants to the Masters, who can also use them for Magical Energy upkeep and as an anchor to the world. Killing a Master would normally go against the purpose of a Servant, but the Command Spells protect the Masters from those who seek out a more suitable one.

   Magecraft, also known as Majutsu in Japanese, is the practice of recreating supernatural phenomena through artificial means. It allows humans to achieve what science alone cannot explain or accomplish. While Magecraft is not considered a miracle in itself, it utilizes supernatural methods to bring about results that science can achieve through natural means. Over time, the limits of Magecraft have changed as science has advanced and certain magical practices from the past have become possible through scientific advancements. Modern Magecraft operates within the boundaries of the world's rules and human intellect. While there are limitations that make certain things appear impossible, Magecraft is able to recreate existing phenomena rather than create new mysteries. The realm beyond this limitation is known as Magic. In terms of magnitude, Modern Magecraft is inferior to the Magecraft of the Age of Gods because the Magi of that era obtained their magical energy directly from the Swirl of the Root. The difference between Modern and Traditional Magecraft can be attributed to the difference in civilizations, as the Age of Gods existed alongside Truth while the Age of Man seeks to discover Truth. Magecraft draws its power from the Root but its capacity is fixed. Therefore, when more individuals draw from it simultaneously, the individual power of Magecraft becomes weaker. Belief plays a role in determining whether a Mystery exists or not. Even if modern humans reject the existence of ghosts, Science cannot definitively prove their non-existence. This creates a vague suspicion in the unconscious that ghosts might indeed exist, which falls under "faith." Ignorance, on the other hand, opposes faith. If the existence of a Mystery is completely unknown, faith cannot be fomented. The goal of Magi academia is to make the impossible possible. When Modern Magecraft falls short, Magi engage in research and development to expand their abilities. Powerful sorceries such as Greater Magecraft and Greater Rituals are challenges aimed at reaching Magic - the ultimate goal. As development progresses, the significance of differences in power and the distinction between Magic and Magecraft diminishes. Battles between great Magi are determined not by raw power, but by the system with fewer tiers of rules. It is not the power behind them, but the concepts they work under that hold true importance. In the world of Fate/EXTRA, Magecraft has declined by the 2030s. However, Wizards can still utilize Code Casts in both the virtual world and reality. They also possess Magic Crests. Despite Magecraft and Science being fundamentally incompatible, both disciplines share a common goal of seeking continued prosperity and protecting humanity's future.

Magi often come from old magical families, as affinity for Magecraft is passed down through blood relations. However, many Magi get caught up in power struggles, while those who deviate from the traditional path are seen as heretics. Many Magi look down on those who use Magecraft for profit, considering it solely a field of research. Some Magi obtain magical patents recognized by the Clock Tower to gain financial benefits.

   The Clock Tower, located in London, is the headquarters of the Mage's Association. It was founded by Brishisan, a student of Solomon, along with other notable Magi. The current control of the Clock Tower lies with the Lords, an elite group with significant political influence. Discriminatory attitudes and behaviors are prevalent within the Clock Tower, including discrimination against Asians and a lack of support for Rune and Witchcraft Thaumaturgy. Admission to the Clock Tower involves exams to test knowledge of Magecraft, but exceptional individuals can bypass this through recommendations or lineage.    The Holy Grails, known as "Seihai" in Japanese, are objects that are based on the Christian relic said to hold the blood of Christ. Throughout history, countless artifacts have claimed to be the true Holy Grail, leading to numerous conflicts around the world. However, in the context of the Holy Grail Wars, the name is used to refer to an artifact that can supposedly grant any wish to its claimant. The Church often involves itself in these wars due to their association with holy relics. The Holy Grails themselves are masses of pure magical energy that react to the desires of their holders in order to grant their wishes. However, they require external intervention to manifest true miracles and typically do not have a physical form but can take on various shapes depending on the circumstances. In larger Holy Grail Wars, there are Greater Holy Grails at the core of the ritual and Lesser Holy Grails acting as catalysts by collecting defeated Servants. Additionally, there is a term called "Artgraph" that relates to Holy Grails and is used in different contexts such as the Moon Cell's Seventh Heaven Art Graph and the Art Graph Holy Grails, as well as the Lesser Holy Grail of Tokyo.

   Master is a designation given to an individual, usually a Magus, who has become one of the formal participants of the Holy Grail War by obtaining Command Spells and forming a contract with a Servant. Under ordinary circumstances, a Master is always a spellcaster, usually a Magus with a Magic Circuit, who is selected by the Holy Grail. It is possible for an ordinary person to become a Master, though this is rare.

   The Command Spells or Command Seals, are three claims of absolute obedience, the crystallization of a great magic, that a Master has over a Servant in the Holy Grail War system. They can also be used to make a servant do something that cant be done normally, like teleporting herself to the side of her master, or to stand up and keep fighting when they body has already been broken, etc. Unable to normally be controlled by humans, they are burdened by the "absolute condition for materialization", the authority of the Command Spell carved into them at the moment of summoning. They are holy marks signifying a Magi's status as a Master, a system that was created by Zouken Makiri after the failure of the First Holy Grail War. Obtaining Command Spells: The Fuyuki Holy Grail for example, grants a total of twenty-one Command Spells in each war. Masters obtain three Command Spells, and Servants have no choice but to cooperate with their Masters due to their hold over them. Depending on the nature of the Servant, such binding is not necessary, while others may slay their Master instantly should all three be lost. They disappear as they are used up, and it can be said that a Master who uses up all three loses authority over their Servant. Even if a Master contracts with multiple Servants at once, they will only be given a total of three Command Spells that can be used on any contracted Servant.It is possible to steal more from other Masters or receive more from the overseer depending on circumstances, and it is also possible that anyone interfering with the activities of the Church will have their Command Spells decreased. Their loss does not indicate forfeiture of position in the Holy Grail War, as the contract with the Servant is also part of being a Master. Command Spells do not disappear simply with the loss of a Servant, but instead only when one gives up or loses their right to be a Master. With regular Masters, this happens instantly upon losing their Servant, and only members of the Three Founding Families have shown the ability to exercise the authority of a Master even without a Servant. They will not lose their Command Spells so long as there exist Servants without established contracts. Lost Command Spells are reclaimed by the Holy Grail during the Holy Grail War and can be redistributed to new contractors who take on a Servant who has lost their Master. While searching for new Masters, it will prioritize those who had been previously chosen. The Church provides protection to Masters without Servants for the reason of them having greater chance of obtaining leftover Command Spells. Masters aim to kill other Masters rather than simply cut off their combat effectiveness so that they will not be able to take up another contract in the future. Of the Command Spells that are left after the Holy Grail War, they are amassed in the hands of the supervisor and commissioned for safekeeping. It is possible to keep a contract after the Holy Grail War has ended, as the only issue is the added strain on the Magus after the support from the Holy Grail in the upkeep of the Servant stops.

    Noble Phantasms (貴い幻想ノウブル・ファンタズム, Nouburu Fantazumu), or simply Precious/Treasured Tools (宝具, Hōgu) in the Japanese version, are "crystallized Mysteries", powerful armaments made using human imagination as their core, and are the weapons and/or abilities owned by Heroic Spirits. As humanity's illusions, they embody the ultimate Mysteries of a hero as symbols of their existence through historical fact and anecdotes. They can be physical weaponry (e.g. swords, spears, bows) or support items (e.g. shields, rings, crowns). They can also be abstractions such as unique, often magical abilities (even close to or matching True Magic), unique (even conceptual) means of attack, curses, and changes to the very environment and its physical properties. When summoned as Servants in the Holy Grail War, they are the trump cards of the heroes that allow them to overcome others in battle.

    The Class Name of a Servant is the name by which they are referred in a Holy Grail War. Corresponding to their Class, the Master will typically refer to them only by that name to avoid exposing their True Name. Heroic Spirits summoned by the Holy Grail are placed into one of various Classes. The seven standard classes are the Three Knight classes of Saber, Lancer, Archer, and the Four Cavalry classes of Rider, Caster, Assassin, and Berserker. There are also non-standard Extra Classes that are "split off from the regular servant classes in order to take on certain roles", such as Ruler which oversees the Holy Grail War. Avengers who are born from hatred and Alter Egos wich are an heroic spirit but with one characteristic being the dominant one Servants are normally only of the singular class under which they are summoned, but certain circumstances allow for multiple classes at once or class changes.

Strangely, after being summoned, Ibaraki has come to adore a magical girl show called 'Magifender Girl'. Ibaraki is innocent in matters of love and sex, but will challenge it with gusto, though she won't be very good at it without guidance. Her Noble Phantasm is "Rashomon Daiengi". Her right hand, severed by one of Minamoto no Raikou's Four Heavenly Kings. Normally, it is properly attached, but she can freely detach and manipulate it, making it flutter about in the sky or even have it act as an offensive weapon. Her fist, clad in the dreadful, sweltering heat of the Oni Kind, enlarge in size, just like that of a great Oni. It then revolves around the enemies' lines and destroys them.     The Guardian Heroic Spirit Summoning System "FATE" was completed in 2004 A.D. It allows for members of Chaldea who are considered "provisional Masters" to summon Heroic Spirits as Servants. A system patterned after the Heroic Spirit summoning ritual utilized in the Grail Wars of Fuyuki City, which enacts summoning per agreement of purpose between Master and Servant. Marisbury used this data as the basis for creating the summoning ritual. Utilizing FATE, two Servants were successfully summoned in the initial tests: Galahad - The first Heroic Spirit summoned in 2010, which was Chaldea’s only successful Heroic Spirit fusion trial. Marisbury was performing the experiment on the ten-year old Mash Kyrielight. However Galahad decried Chaldea's brutal experiments, but remained in the world to keep his host alive. Then, after the bombing of Chaldea, he entrusted her with all he had. Leonardo da Vinci - The second Heroic Spirit summoned to Chaldea (2012). Marisbury and Romani Archaman were present. She lacked a Master, but after being convinced to join Chaldea she built a puppet copy of herself as a "Master". Following her death, this puppet would assume the role of her new body.

When the conditions, "it is night-time," "opponent is a woman (female)," "misty," are met and the Noble Phantasm is used the contents of the body are expelled and they turn into a dismembered corpse. If activated normally, they can be used to deal physical damage to the target while the conditions are not completely fulfilled. Examples of dialogue: "Ahahaha, that tickles! It tickles!" "Can you hug us tight? Please? We'd do anything for you, Mommy." "Sleeping on a warm bed feels good, doesn't it?" "We really love you, Mommy."
