Camp free woods

6/21/1980

First day of free wood summer camp.

The birds were chirping, the campers on the bus sang, screamed, cried, talked, everything kids and teenagers would do normally. Two months of summer camp, two months of taking kids away from their parents, two months of hell for the ones who knew what would happen at this camp.

When the bus stopped, students got off and went to get their cabin assignments. The cabins weren't normal. There was wood planks under the windows, they were there for the campers and counselors to put them up at night. Fences were everywhere, cameras were everywhere, crosses were everywhere, and it wasn't a Christian camp.

As the camp owner, Mark Samon, gave his introduction to the campers who cared to listen, others talked.

Finally, when the introduction was over, all the campers and counselors got to go see their cabins and start making it feel more like home.
