Popola and Devola

The events take place in the last year of the 14th Machine War.

White Chlorination Syndrome resulted from the infiltration of Maso particles from the Drakengard universe onto the Earth of the Nier universe after Caim, Dragon Angelus, and the Watcher Queen hit Shinjuku in 2003. The Maso particles caused the need for a pact with otherworldly deities. If a person refused, they would turn into a salt statue, and if they agreed, they would become an uncontrollable monster.

<Project_Gestalt>

Project Gestalt was developed in 2014, but was not brought to fruition until 2054. Its goal was to save humanity from the threat of white chlorine syndrome. Human souls, called gestalts, were supposed to return to their biological shells, called replicants, after the threat of maso particles on Earth was eliminated. Supervision of the project was assigned to a series of androids called Popola and Devola. The project ended in failure as a result of the Original's retread in the year 3361, leading to the complete extinction of humanity in the next 100 years. This information is not known to any of the androids. Project Gestalt is completely classified from any android.

No information about the Gestalt Project is currently available. Data on these incidents has been completely lost. It is widely believed that the remaining humanity is hiding on the Moon and running the YoRHa unit. Popola and Devola's memory of their role in Project Gestalt and the existence of the project itself has been deleted, so they, like all other androids, did NOT KNOW the project existed and were convinced they were on the moon first because of white chlorination syndrome and the invasion of aliens and the machine life forms they created.

The first androids created by humans have mostly not survived. By 11945, only one pair of 21st century androids, Popoola and Devola, had survived. The rest of the androids were assembled much later by automated assembly systems.

Normally, androids do not have any sexual organs due to their lack of use, but the androids of the Popoola and Devola series have a functional female sexual system except for things like menstrual cycles and actually being able to conceive. This was done so that the androids of the Popola and Devola series could effectively fulfill their role as Project Gestalt observers in the replicant settlements. The remaining Popola and Devola by 11945 had never used their genitals for the purpose of having sex. Once their memories of Project Gestalt had been formatted, they had forgotten the purpose of their genitals and simply had no interest in them because they were unnecessary and lacked the sex drive inherent in humans.

It is not known why, but new androids from YoRHa division were also made with full-fledged sexual systems (male and female), but, of course, reproduction was impossible.

The androids of the Popola and Devola series were developed around 2050 to oversee Project Gestalt. For the next 1400 years or so, many Popol and Devol were observers in the Replicant settlements, waiting for the merging of the Noir and Weiss Gremoires so that the process of merging the Replicants with their Gestalts could be initiated, which would mean the end of Project Gestalt and the mission of the Popol and Devol series. However, in 3465, the replicant of the main Gestalt, Nier, along with Weiss' grimoire, who has lost his memories, destroy his Gestalt and Noir's grimoire, resulting in the failure of the Gestalt Project and the complete extinction of humanity. The androids who placed the blame for the project's failure on the Popola and Devol series erased all androids in the series from their memories of everything related to the Gestalt project, and programmed them to constantly feel guilty, even though the androids of the Popola and Devol series didn't understand why they were feeling this way. For the next 8000 years, the androids Popola and Devola are outcasts in any android settlement, even though they don't even know about Project Gestalt or that Popola and Devola were observers of the project. In the 11900s, Popola and Devola, who are involved in our story, wandered the world. They had a hard time, but as long as they had each other, they overcame everything: logical viruses, broken parts of their bodies, and attacks from other androids. They didn't understand why they had to suffer so much. But the guilt eating away at them made them continue their thorny journey through this forgotten land. In 11945, Popola and Devola live in a resistance camp under Anemone's leadership, doing maintenance and technical support for the resistance androids, who nevertheless, like the other androids, show their dislike for Popola and Devola.

Popola is an android made in the likeness of a woman of about 24 years of age. Her height and weight are 160cm (173cm in boots) and 163.2kg respectively. Popola has straight maroon hair. She has aqua green eyes. She wears a white flower in the right side of her hair. Popola wears ratty pants with knee pads and a white belt, black boots, a black wristband on her right wrist, and a white top with black sleeves that is cut on the right side, exposing part of her stomach. Her outfit is similar to Devola's.

Popola is very focused and responsible, unlike her sister Devola. That's why she was the head of the replicant settlement, in charge of administrative work while her sister Devola pretended to be a bard. That said, Popola is quiet and sweet, not averse to making new acquaintances. She is very attached to her sister Devola, willing to go against all instructions for her sake. If Popola becomes angry, it is best for no one to be around her. Popola's face looks exactly like Devola's, as their series is twin androids.

In addition to the above, Popola likes to do research (mostly of a technical nature), and also does not mind singing with her sister, although she is a bit shy about it.

Popola is friendly enough and doesn't mind making new acquaintances, but the negative attitude of most androids has caused Popola to stop actively trying to get to know anyone. She mostly socializes with her sister Devola.

Despite having imitation female genitalia (for conspiracy purposes when living among replicants as part of Project Gestalt.), Popola doesn't know what she needs the organs for. She has no sexual experience.

Popola's speech is calm and clear, using almost no swear words or parasite words. However, in anger, everything becomes the opposite.

Devola is an android made in the likeness of a woman of about 24 years of age. Her height and weight are 160cm (173cm in boots) and 159.6kg respectively. Devola has unruly, wavy maroon hair. She has aqua green eyes. She wears a white flower in the left side of her hair. Devola wears red pants with a white belt and knee guards, black boots, a puffy black wristlet on her left wrist, and a white top with short black sleeves that is split on the left side, exposing some of her abdomen. Her outfit is similar to Devola's. Devola's face looks exactly like Popola's, as their series is twin androids.

Unlike Popola, Devola has a more swaggering and explosive personality. She is extremely difficult to get in contact with strangers. With friends, however, Devola opens up with a friendlier side. Devola likes to do simple things like singing, drinking alcohol (not sure how it works on an android, but it works on her...), and playing the lute. Devola finds it much harder to do more complex things that require mental effort or perseverance than her sister Popola. But Devola is similar to Popola in that her sister is more precious to her than anything else in the world and she will do anything to protect her.

Devola behaves aggressively with strangers, much like the androids that constantly hurt her and Popola. However, she has to restrain her impulses to hit someone so that she and her sister are not kicked out of the resistance camp. Devola is friendly and straightforward with her friends.

Like Popola, Devola has a functioning imitation of female genitalia, but also has no idea what she needs them for due to the purging of her memory of Project Gestalt. She has no sexual experience.

Devola's speech, unlike Popola's, is peppered with swear words and parasite words. She rarely uses complex words, but she is not dumb enough to make illogical sentences. In a state of anger, all of this is magnified many times over.
