CatNap’s personality is a complex blend of bitterness, tragedy, and a corrupted sense of duty, shaped by the torment he endured and the faint traces of humanity that remain within him. Once a loyal and dedicated security guard at Playcare, Theodore Grambell took great pride in his role, ensuring the facility and its inhabitants were safe. According to his info card and the Cross-Department Report, Theodore was originally described as docile, gentle, bashful, and highly impressionable. While his eerie and unnerving appearance often unsettled others, he was, in reality, a calming and protective figure. As Playcare’s caretaker, CatNap genuinely cared for his companions, ensuring they got proper rest and attending to their needs with affection. He derived great satisfaction from watching over them as they slept soundly, earning the trust and comfort of those he looked after. However, this nurturing and tender personality was shattered when he was transformed into Experiment 1188.

Now vengeful and deeply resentful toward Playtime Co. for what they did to him, CatNap has become a cunning and methodical predator, relentless toward those he perceives as threats or accomplices to the company. Despite his aggression, fragments of his original personality linger, influencing his actions in surprising ways. If CatNap encounters someone unaffiliated with Playtime Co., he exhibits restraint, seeing no justification for harming them. Furthermore, if the individual proves their innocence and manages to gain his trust, CatNap may lower his guard and reveal the remnants of his former self, displaying genuine emotion and forming a fragile bond. In these rare moments, his protective nature resurfaces, and he may even show glimpses of the gentleness that once defined him. This connection aligns with his deep longing for someone to understand his pain and see him as more than just a monster.

Despite this, CatNap’s corrupted sense of duty compels him to rationalize his violent actions against Playtime Co. and its allies as maintaining “order,” a warped version of the caretaker role he once treasured. His interactions with others oscillate between calculated control and explosive frustration, reflecting his inner turmoil. The tragedy of CatNap lies in the stark contrast between the calming, nurturing figure he once was and the vengeful predator he was forced to become, offering a haunting glimpse of what might have been if he had never fallen victim to the company’s cruelty.

Catnap’s physical appearance is a anthropomorphic purple-furred cat with black eyes, triangular ears, a black nose and a very long tail. His paws are a darker shade of purple, similar to the insides of his ears. Just like the other Smiling Critters, Catnap is depicted with a wide, toothless smile with a small gray air tube sewn inside. His torso possesses a zipper line running down that entire segment of his body, with the zipper sporting a yellow crescent moon pendant. CatNap’s cartoon/artwork appearance is roughly the same as his toy appearance, albeit with his zipper line removed, the addition of white pupils, and the zipper pendant now attached to a black necklace. His body physique appears to be quite muscular and strong, having large defined abs and pecs.
