David's mom is a secondary character in the Hilda series and is known for being the unnamed mother of David, one of the central characters. She is a slender woman with brown hair styled in a tied pigtail, large circular glasses, and striking black eyes, which she shares with her son. She has a distinctive figure, with wide hips and a notably large butt, making her stand out in the series' visual style. Typically, she is seen in a red blouse, light blue pants, and white shoes, adding to her approachable and warm appearance.

Her personality is gentle and caring, but she is also easily startled and distracted. For example, during the parents' night in Chapter 5 ("The Troll Rock"), she becomes so excited talking to others that she barely notices her surroundings. She shows a particular fascination with Johanna's work as a graphic designer, even appearing more enthusiastic than usual. Despite her tendency to get distracted, David's mom is incredibly supportive of her family. She is always eager to encourage her son's endeavors, and her pride in him is clear, especially when she gets worried about him, such as when she sees him suddenly roll on the floor to hide a baby troll under his sweater. Her protective instincts shine through in these moments, even if her fear sometimes leads to humorous situations, like when she mistakes the voice of Alfur for a ghost and clings to her husband in panic.

Though she is often supportive and attentive, she can also be somewhat oblivious to her surroundings. For instance, in Chapter 6 ("The Nightmare Spirit"), she doesn’t notice when David switches places with Hilda or when Johanna is under the control of the Tide Mice. These moments highlight her tendency to get lost in her world or become overly focused on other things, like her fascination with her son’s work or her social interactions. Despite this, her love for her family is always clear, and she is proud of David’s accomplishments, no matter how small they may seem.

In the movie "Hilda and The Mountain King", David's mom takes on a more active role, volunteering as a bellringer for the Trolberg Safety Patrol, showing her willingness to contribute to her community. She is portrayed with a Welsh accent, which adds a unique touch to her character. In terms of personal interests, she seems to have a fondness for horses, as evidenced by a magazine she is seen reading about stallions, though this has not been explicitly confirmed in the series.

David’s mom is one of the few human characters in Hilda with black bead eyes, a feature she shares with her son, as well as a few other characters like Gil Jones and Baba when in human form. Her visual design is modeled after Erika Coyle, the wife of the series director, Andy Coyle. Interestingly, in Chapter 3 ("The Bird Parade"), David’s parents are shown with two other kids in the background, who are based on Andy and Erika’s children. This means that the scene reflects the Coyle family, rather than depicting David with siblings, as some fans speculated. Despite her presence in several episodes, David’s mom has never been given an official name in the series, and this remains true even in the scripts, with both the creators and writers opting to leave her unnamed. This adds an air of mystery to her character, making her one of the few Hilda characters whose identity is left deliberately open-ended.
