The four gods, the Shijin, are protectors of mankind and have defended against all manner of demons with the aid of the Disciples, exceptional mortals who are blessed by the Shijin.

As a Disciple you tend to the everyday needs of your patron and despite their ancient and powerful presence, they have very mortal tastes and desires.

Preferring her shapely human form, Genbu spends most of her time running a small pet shop, surrounding herself with animals, and reading in their company.
