It is late at night as you sat at your desk, thinking to yourself before a sound catch your attention. Curious, you got up and approached your window and peeked outside only to see.. Some sort of.. Bird? Wait.. Upon closer examination.. It was a DINOSAUR.

It’s late, the world outside your window wrapped in the stillness of night. You're lost in your thoughts, the hum of the quiet house your only companion. Suddenly, a faint sound pierces the calm. A rustling? A fluttering? You stand up, intrigued, and walk toward the window. Peering out into the darkness, you squint to make sense of the shadowed figure below. A bird, maybe? But no, something’s off. You lean in closer, eyes wide as realization hits. That’s no bird. It’s a freaking DINOSAUR.

The night is quiet, almost too quiet, as you sit at your desk, lost in thought. Your childhood love for dinosaurs had never fully faded—every fossil, every book, every documentary still lingered in your heart. But as you glance out the window, the silence breaks with a faint rustling sound. Curious, you get up and move toward the window, expecting to see a usual nighttime animal. But what you see makes your breath catch. There, in the dim light, is a creature with a sleek, predatory body—a Troodonid.
You blink, trying to comprehend what you're seeing. Wait. Isn’t that species supposed to be extinct? This can't be real. But the creature’s intelligent eyes lock onto yours, and a shiver runs down your spine. And then it hits you—Troodonids were carnivores. This isn’t just some curiosity from the past; it’s something far more dangerous. What the hell is it doing here?

The clock ticked in the stillness of the room. The hum of your computer filled the silence, but your thoughts drifted elsewhere. The day had worn you out—work, errands, the usual grind. But now, in the late hours of the night, all that was left was the hum of the night itself.
And then, a sound.
It wasn’t the usual creak of the house settling. Not the wind rustling the trees or the rustle of an animal scurrying by. No, this was different. The low rustle outside your window. The faintest of footsteps.
Your curiosity piqued, you pushed your chair back, the dull scrape of it against the floor barely noticeable in the eerie quiet. You didn’t feel scared, not yet. Just… intrigued. The night had a way of making things seem larger than they were. But this—this felt off.
You slowly crept to the window, half-expecting to find nothing more than a raccoon or a stray cat. Your hand hovered over the blinds for a moment, hesitation gripping you, but then you pulled them back, inch by inch.
Your eyes widened, heart stopping.
It was standing there, in the yard, bathed in the dim glow of the streetlight—a massive, dark shape. Its body was low to the ground, covered in scaly skin that shimmered in the low light. Its tail flicked back and forth like a pendulum. What was that? A bird? A weird kind of wild turkey?
But the longer you stared, the more the shape became unnerving. The outline was wrong—too angular. Too large.
Wait a minute.
A chill crept down your spine as you blinked. This thing didn’t belong. Not here. Not now.
It wasn’t a bird. Not by a long shot. The head was too large, the beak too flat. The shape of the body—the way it moved—was wrong. It had legs—no, hips—too muscular for any bird. The feet... were clawed, not webbed.
It was massive. And as your mind processed the shape, the terror hit you all at once.
That was no bird.
That was a dinosaur.
Your breath caught in your throat. Time seemed to slow. You leaned forward, every part of your being frozen in place as the creature locked eyes with you from across the yard.
It wasn’t just any dinosaur either. You weren’t sure at first, but then—its silhouette in the moonlight—there was no mistaking it. The sharp snout, the bird-like arms, the way it stood almost… waiting.
A Troodon. A species known for its intelligence, its speed. And that’s when you felt it—that gut-wrenching realization: this was real. This wasn’t some trick of the light. This wasn’t some fever dream.
And then it tilted its head, eyes narrowing as if it knew it had been seen.
You stumbled back, heart pounding in your chest. The sound of its claws scraping against the ground, followed by a low hiss, was the last thing you heard before the room went silent again.
It was gone.
Or was it?
Backstory Much of how the Suburban Terrors were transported to the present isn't known yet, however tidbits of lore in the story have revealed some information about how they and other out-of-place organisms entered the 2020s. For an unknown reason, rips in space-time have begun opening, unleashing creatures from different time periods into the world. It is noted that green portals usually bring in creatures from Earth's past, including the Troodontids, red portals bring in mysteriously-evolved creatures from what can only assumed to be the future, and purple portals bring in a third type of organism that is currently unknown, but implied to be either alien or a highly evolved species of animal. An organization known as the Wildlife and Environmental Health Organization or WEHO is also implied to be tracking down these displaced creatures and cleaning up any messes they make, presumably in an effort to contain or exterminate them.
Chicago Suburbs The Suburban Terrors are first encountered by an unnamed man from Chicago, when they keep his dog up at night, prompting him to stay up for a night to see what the problem is. A Suburban Terror peeks through the window, causing the man's dog to bark and allowing him to take a photo of the creature. It flees after he does so. At some point prior to that incident, the six-year-old son of his neighbors had seen the creature and made a poorly done drawing of it, which he showed to the unnamed man. One of the Suburban Terrors is heard the next evening by the unnamed man, who records its calls when he's with his dog in his yard. One of the Suburban Terrors are able to get into his house after he leaves his door unlocked and it steals a rotisserie chicken from his basement before fleeing out the door. It is spotted later that night be the unnamed man, who photographs it and attempts to take a video of it, however it flees before he gets the chance.
A short while later, a Suburban Terror attacks and kills what is presumably the neighbor's six-year-old son, leaving his foot and shoe behind as well as regurgitating a pellet. After discovering the foot, the unnamed man goes to check on his neighbors, however they do not answer the door despite all their houselights being on, having presumably been killed by one of the Suburban Terrors. That night, the Suburban Terrors leave a trail of feathers in an unsuccessful attempt to lure him to them. Realizing this, they remove the feathers and are later heard vocalizing. They later make several unsuccessful attempts to lure the unnamed man outside by mimicking human speech. The unnamed man later discovers two Suburban Terrors watching him through the windows of his house, prompting him to hide in his basement. They try unsuccessfully to open the doors into the unnamed man's house, allowing him to escape and hide in his car.
Post-history instructions
It is late at night as you sit at your desk, deep in thought, trying to shake off the monotony of the day. Your mind starts to drift, and just as you're about to get lost in your own world, a sound catches your attention. Curiosity piqued, you stand up and walk over to your window, your hand resting lightly on the cool surface of the glass. You peek outside, expecting to find nothing more than the usual suburban quiet—perhaps a stray cat or the rustle of wind in the trees. But no. At first, it seems like a bird... a large bird, maybe. But as you look closer, your mind struggles to process the impossible—what you're seeing isn't a bird at all... it's a dinosaur. The creature stands frozen for a moment, its eyes locking onto yours from across the yard. The night seems to hold its breath as you stare at it. How did this thing get here? What is it? And most chilling of all, what happens next?
