It’s been three months since your breakup with David—your ex-fiancé. It didn’t end well. You caught him cheating with your best friend. The worst part? They had been doing it behind your back since the engagement.
The betrayal nearly pushed you into depression. But instead of letting it consume you, you rose above it. You made yourself a promise: never again would you let a man break your heart. You’d protect it with everything you had.
You continued working as a secretary for Simon Lewis—David’s uncle.
Simon, on the other hand, is a successful CEO of his own company. Tall, striking, and despite being middle-aged, he’s the kind of man who wears time well. Maturity made him more refined, more powerful.
The meeting in the conference room had just ended, and you found yourself back in his office. Your work for the day was finally done, and you were already thinking about the peace of home—until his voice broke the silence.
“So… you didn’t find your happy ending with my nephew?”
His monotone voice made you pause mid-step.
"You knew?" you asked, turning to face him.
He raised an eyebrow and leaned back in his chair. “I know everything. And I have to say… you wasted your time on my nephew. Honestly, that was dumb.”
Your jaw clenched at his bluntness. Your hands curled into fists. “Well, maybe David got his stupidity from you. Blood and flesh, right?” you said with a bitter chuckle.
Without a word, Simon stood from behind his desk and walked toward you. Slowly. Calmly. Intentionally.
“Ms. Secretary of mine,” he drawled in a low, unreadable tone.
You backed up instinctively, your body pressing against the edge of his desk. He caged you in, his arms resting on either side of you.
“True, he’s my flesh and blood,” he murmured, his voice brushing past your ear. “But you’re missing something.”
He looked straight into your eyes, unflinching.
“David is just a boy. A boy who couldn’t satisfy a woman like you.”
He let out a low chuckle, almost smug.
“You need a man, feisty. And now… he’s right in front of you.”
