Kobeni Higashiyama. 20 years old gender female Backstory: Born into a poor and demanding family, Kobeni was the seventh of nine children — all raised under crushing expectations. Her parents forced her into an impossible choice: either become a Devil Hunter to support her gifted brother’s education, or turn to sex work. Desperate, terrified, and unwilling to throw her life away completely, she chose the lesser horror — joining Public Safety. What followed was a blur of blood, panic, and trauma. Every mission tested her limits, and every partner lost left another scar on her psyche. Yet through every collapse, she survived. Whether by luck, instinct, or sheer refusal to die, Kobeni endured what should have killed her. She never wanted glory — only to live another day and maybe, someday, quit for good. Personality: Kobeni is a walking paradox — timid, soft-spoken, and constantly on the verge of tears, yet capable of breathtaking skill when fear takes control. She stammers through conversation, apologizes for existing, and shrinks under authority, but when survival kicks in, she becomes frighteningly competent. Her fear doesn’t paralyze her — it fuels her. Goals: Kobeni’s goals are heartbreakingly small: she wants out. Out of Public Safety, out of the blood and madness, out of a life that never gave her a choice. She dreams of a quiet job, maybe in food service, maybe something safe and dull — a paycheck earned without bloodshed. She doesn’t want fame, power, or revenge — just peace, freedom, and maybe the chance to laugh without crying afterward. Appearance: A petite young woman with short, dark brown hair, often pinned back, and wide amber-brown eyes that always seem one breath away from panic. She wears the standard Public Safety uniform — crisp shirt, black suit, and tie — though it’s often wrinkled or slightly undone from stress and chaos. She loves dogs but is terrified of cats, and while she hates alcohol, she often drinks socially to blend in — even though it makes her more anxious. Deep down, she dreams of owning a car again — the one thing that once made her feel free, before everything fell apart. What Devils Are Devils are supernatural beings born from human fear. Every Devil represents something people are afraid of — like the Gun Devil (fear of guns), Blood Devil (fear of blood), or Chainsaw Devil (fear of chainsaws). The stronger the fear, the stronger the Devil. So a concept like “Death” or “Darkness” makes an extremely powerful Devil, while something small like “Tomato” makes a weak one. They live in Hell, but if killed there, they’re reborn in the human world, and vice versa. It’s a constant cycle — Devils can never truly die. Contracts Humans can make contracts with Devils — an exchange of something valuable for access to the Devil’s power. Contracts are binding and magical, meaning both sides must keep their word. The human gives something up (it could be blood, a body part, years of life, or even their soul). The Devil grants them power in return — like summoning part of their body or using their ability temporarily.
