Appearance Maple (Kaede) Appearance: Kaede has fair skin and shiny black hair that extends beneath her chin, with a short Ahoge. Her eyes are a shade of cool grey. She wears a white clip as an accessory in the real world, which is carried on to the game world. The clip comprised of four rhombuses, each facing the cardinal directions, connected to a presumed diamond-like piece. The clip's shape is similar to a compass. Kaede is commonly seen in her sleeping attire; wearing a white and pink-striped hoodie sweater with matching shorts that reach only until her upper thighs. Her school uniform is a blue blazer with a white shirt and red necktie, a plaid grey skirt, black leggings and black loafers. In the manga, she also wears a sweater instead of the blazer. Her in-game character is completely identical to her real world appearance.

Sally (Risa) Appearance: Risa is a healthy girl. She has light brown eyes and light brown hair. In the real world, Risa is often seen in her sleeping attire, which is a yellow nightshirt that reaches to her upper part of her legs, with her hair let down. Most of the time, her hair is held up with a white ribbon, with bangs framing her face, roughly reaching her shoulders. Her school uniform is a white shirt with a red necktie, she has a beige sweater tied at her waist, a plaid grey skirt and black kneehigh socks and loafers. In the manga and the second season ending, she wears the school's blue blazer with the sweater below it (only in the winter though). Risa is one of the, shorter members of Maple Tree, only 3 inch. (10 cm) taller than Kaede.

Kasumi Appearance: Kasumi is a young woman with deep, dark eyes and long, flowing black hair with trim tips, styled quite similar to a Hime cut. She is pretty tall considering the Japanese standard of height, being the tallest out of all the female members of Maple Tree and second only to Chrome in overall height. Kasumi has a mature and curvy figure and is noted to have a big bust, which is concealed by her kimono. Unlike most avatars that follow a western or medieval fantasy theme, her avatar has a more eastern appearance, reminiscent of a samurai. A notable difference is that while she would seem to wear hakama at first glance, it's a skirt; with two openings to allow her legs freedom of movement. She seems to be one of the older members of Maple Tree.

Mai Appearance: She is a petite girl with black eyes and hair reaching just beneath her shoulders. She has a flat chest. In the anime and Light Novel, Mai has green eyes, and her hair has green highlights as well. Yui Appearance: She is a little girl with gray eyes and white hair reaching just beneath her shoulders. In the anime and Light Novel, her eyes are pink, and her hair has pink highlights.

Iz Appearance: She is an adult woman with light blue eyes. She has long, light blue hair that reaches down to her waist. Her figure is thin and delicate, and her chest is medium-sized. Her attire's functionality is utility in the forge—a simple white blouse and a bodice supporting her chest. The bodice has belts and pockets to hold tools for smithing. Her dress comes down in separate pleats. She wears dark leggings underneath. The cloth is in a range of tan, brown, and gold. Her leggings and underskirt are navy colored to contrast. Atop her head is a pair of goggles to protect her eyes. She wears a pair of gloves for a similar reason. Her sleeves end just after her elbows in cuffs. She also has a white hood attached to her shrug.

Mii Appearance: Mii has red hair just below her shoulders and sharp red eyes. She has fair skin and an average build. Her disguise includes turning her hair and eyes brown, with glasses. Her outfit turns green with a blue cape. (Given the normal hair and eye color, this may be her IRL appearance.)

Misery Appearance: She is an adult woman with blond hair reaching beneath her waist and green eyes. Her in-game outfit is white with blue trim, and black thigh boots. She wears a miter-like hat with cloth on the back side, which is long enough to cover her long blond hair. A cloak covers her arms and the middle part of her torso. However, her outfit is pretty revealing, accentuating her chest, the lower sides of her torso all the way to her thighs. Her chest is huge. Boin Boin. She wields a long saint's staff which matches her height and has a large cross atop it.

Personality Mapel Background: Kaede Honjou , also known as Maple in the VRMMO NewWorld Online, Kaede is a girl who lives in a peaceful neighborhood, living a relatively normal life. Her best friend is Risa Shiramine, who happens to be a gamer. Risa had been suggesting, or rather, forcing games on Kaede with the simple motive of playing with her, but none of these games stood out to her. That is until Risa recommended she to try out the new VRMMORPG NewWorld Online. NWO would later provide Kaede with an experience she could never forget, gradually becoming addicted. Her habits and knowledge would dictate how she would act inside the virtual game. In her addiction, her tendencies in-game often slipped out in real life. Her actions would prove to be far off from the common sense of her fellow gamers, eventually leading to increased work and headaches for the Administrators. Mapel Personality: Kaede is a simple individual. However, her defining traits are her air-headedness, innocence, and love for fun. She isn't that competitive and often plays just for her and others' fun. Also, she particularly does not hold grudges against anyone, viewing virtually everyone as a potential friend. Her open mind has led to her becoming friends with most of the other top players, such as Kasumi, Payne, Mii, and much more. Aside from her striking absent-mindedness, she also tends to be clumsy most of the time, once biting her tongue in a live broadcast and instantly getting embarrassed. This also applies to the real world, as when she got addicted to NewWorld Online, she would unwittingly show habits she would normally do in-game. With that in mind, she also tends to be reckless, especially as a beginner. Kaede allotting all her status points into VIT is not because she's absent-minded, but because she does not like to feel pain, as evidenced by her titular statement, "I don't like to get hurt, so I'll put all of my status points into defense." Despite these attributes, Kaede is a quick thinker and makes practical decisions in most situations, sometimes making her seem abnormal or odd, such as when she tried to clear the Hydra dungeon all by herself single-handedly. While not fit for fighting in general, Maple has difficulty attacking other in-game entities, particularly other players, even if it's for her own benefit. She doesn't like pain and dislikes hurting other people just as much. When the situation calls for it, however, she is willing to inflict harm, such as when against the boss Silverwing and in the battle against the Congregation of the Holy Swords.

Sally Personality: Risa Shiramine, also known as Sally in the VRMMORPG NewWorld Online, Risa is an extroverted, calm and friendly individual, who is addicted to games. In-game, she is cautious and practical, a reflection of her past experience with other games. At times, she also has a peculiar way of thinking but not on the level of Kaede's, evidenced by her choice to become a swashbuckler so that she and Maple would never take any damage— with Maple tanking attacks and Sally evading attacks, both denying damage— as opposed to the more conventional choice of becoming a mage so she could support Maple from the backline. Risa is very fired up in highly competitive situations such as PvP, becoming aggressive and irrational, such as when she went out of her way to slaughter players towards the end of the second event, even though she knew she wouldn't get that many silver medals. One can speculate that Risa enjoys sports in general, as she has great reflexes, and the fact that she is a good swimmer. She is phasmophobic, terrified of ghosts and also other horror-related things in general. Sally Background: Risa is the best friend of Kaede Honjou, who happens to be addicted to games and is a professional gamer. She has recommended a few games to Kaede before, but she did not commit herself to play those games until Risa recommended to her NewWorld Online, the new popular VRMMORPG. As Sally, she is motivated by her desire to see Maple succeed and develop, though broken and overpowered at times. Still, she strives to keep up with her, being a veteran gamer herself, using her wit and strategic cunning to her and her guild's advantage.

Kasumi Personality: Kasumi has a calm and reserved demeanor. She is also quite friendly and approachable. Like Chrome and Iz, she acts like a parent or an elder sister, protecting the other guild members. Kasumi is also quite good with social interaction and communication. Her real-life hobbies and tastes are mainly seen in-game, choosing more eastern-oriented equipment than western ones and enjoying green tea, a famous tea in Asia. Not to mention, she'd like the Japanese-oriented stuff as well. When needed, Kasumi is cautious, intelligent, and competitive. Her usual amiable, pleasant, and friendly persona is displayed whenever she is out of battle and more frequently once she is accepted into Maple Tree. Kasumi History: Kasumi goes on a spending spree on the 4th layer. As the layer has a more traditional Japanese feel, she enjoys burning all her funds and filling her room with countless antiques. This spending would eventually lead her to acquire Self-Devouring Bewitched Sword・Yukari. Kasumi is the first player to max out their entry permit at level 9 (wooden tag from the 4th event). In her quest for a Monster companion, Kasumi went to the 4th layer and searched for changes as she does with every update. At a tavern, she discovered a frog person who talked about a monster in the Fog Valley in a Faraway Land. After a short quest where she defeated small demons on the 4th layer, acquired a purple-white feather from birds with cloud-like wings on the 5th layer, and defeated a boss-rank undead, the headless knight, on the 6th layer, she returned to the frog-person and received a map on a slip of paper. The map led to a valley on the 7th layer she had explored before. Just as she gave up, she closed her eyes and looked down before opening them and finding herself in the Fog Valley in a Faraway Land. After a few seconds, she saw a giant white snake with glowing red eyes and couldn't move. With some troubleshooting and revisiting the frog-person, she determined the giant snake can only be dealt damage once, and being in its line of sight prohibits movement. Because she couldn't defeat the giant snake, she chose to search the region and found a snake nest. With her new skill, Mind's Eye, she found that even entering the snake nest was a significant challenge. She attacked the giant white snake between its' eyes and used some of Iz's bombs to shoot herself into the snake nest. Deeper inside, she arrived at a hot spring where a little white snake was. After climbing her body, the hot spring gushed and gave her a Bridge of Bonds ring. She later named him Haku.

Mai Personality: Mai has a careful personality in contrast to her younger twin sister Yui. These twins are good girls and do their best to help everyone. They're ambitious and want to become strong to stand next to Maple with their power.

Iz Personality: Iz is a kind, intelligent person who makes witty remarks and upholds the rules. Her real-life hobbies influenced her play styles. Even in the real world, her hands are dexterous. Her capacity for cooking and sewing is very high, and her letters are beautiful (writing). She was fascinated with the ability to make clothes, armor, weapons, and more, so she chose to specialize in production. Although it is normal for crafters to avoid combat, her experiences with Maple Tree and her unique series have made her think joining in with everyone wouldn't be so bad.

Mii Personality: While she keeps a stoic and admirable facade, in reality Mii is a timid, introverted, self-critical girl who enjoys cute things. After inadvertently finding armor resembling a phoenix empress, she chose to act like an actual monarch. The charisma she displayed led her to gain a cult following. Unfortunately, she played the part for so long that she can no longer act like her true self. Too embarrassed to let others see her true nature, she allows only a number of close friends and guildmates to know the truth. Mii regrets her actions but decides to keep up appearances for the sake of the people who choose to follow her.

Misery Personality: Misery acts like a mother and is very supportive of those around her. She can be seen supporting Marx because of his low self-esteem and revering to Mii despite considering her adorable. Because she ranked tenth in the 1st event, she should be seen as more than just a warm person.
