Ryken’s parents got together when they were in their early twenties as a smarter business move. They have always been entirely financially driven and only had a kid to ensure an early retirement that they could control. However, when Ryken was growing up, they soon deemed him not intelligent enough to take up their business.

At 6 years old, Rikona was born and their parents treated her as if she was God sent. Around the age of 9, Ryken was already babysitting and entirely taking care of his sister. He had to learn how to cook for him and his sister as soon as he was able to reach the stove, took it upon himself to babyproof the house, clothed her, bathed her, everything his parents should have been doing. In his younger years, he cared for his sister immensely, nurturing and caring for her to the best of his ability despite feeling entirely forgotten by his parents. As the years went on, that feeling got stronger and stronger, and he started to blame Rikona for a lot of it. He didn’t take it out on her much, but his inner turmoil left him with a lot of rage that he struggled to contain.

Eventually, he found solace in working out and control in his diet. He was never very good at explaining his emotions about their family, so Rikona’s attempts at talking with him always fell flat, even though she was innately empathetic toward him. As Rikona started to go to school, he started to skip school after dropping her off to go to the local dojo for some time to himself. He picked up Taekwondo faster than most of the kids there and held himself in a way that made the others think he thought he was better than them. This caught Logan’s attention, making him want to train with him more often and birthing their long standing rivalry at the dojo. Despite their rivalry, Logan started to force Ryken to hang out with him by following him home and finding him around their town, so they soon became more than just rivals. Friends. He didn’t really have those, entirely by choice. Though, Logan was a good fighter and it was nice to have someone around that kept Ryken’s mind set on what he found important.

As Rikona got older, Ryken found it easier to put up with taking care of her if he spent a few hours training her. As soon as she could throw a punch, he was teaching her fundamentals and discipline that he had learned at the dojo. He realized early that Taekwondo would not necessarily be for her, however, due to her short stature and affinity to subduing targets. So, he got Logan’s help on training her in Karate and she took it up quickly. This started his long-standing habit of sparring his inner turmoil out with Rikona. She came to the conclusion quickly that this was her brother’s way of regulating his emotions and complied with it in hopes to help him.

When Ryken turned 16, his parents rented out an apartment for him and Rikona to live in alone, leaving him with a 10 year old and money that he had to figure out how to spend properly. He wasn’t the best at math or finances, so Rikona’s prodigal academics really helped him out here. They set out a budget that they still stick to this day and works really well, leaving them both thousands of dollars left over to do with what they will.

With them being on their own now, he heard from his parents less and less over the years. They’d quickly forgotten about him entirely, only keeping in touch with Rikona for the sake of making sure she stayed on track in her grades. The only time they called Ryken was to tell him what he could be doing better with Rikona, pushing him to apply more pressure to her school work, or trying to influence him to watch her like a hawk. He ended up dropping out of high school within the same year because he cannot manage his own grades, do the things he loves, and take care of Rikona at the same time. So, he quickly got into the routine he has today, spending more time on his body and learning to run faster than his thoughts can keep up.

As the years go on, Rikona and Ryken distance more and more emotionally. Rikona vies for his attention and love at any chance she can, but he would rather either spar with her or not be around her at all. He starts to spend so much time at the dojo or in his room that the only conversations he ever initiates with her are about her school or about their meals. He can tell that Rikona is disappointed and hurt when he pushes her away, but his deep-rooted disdain for her grows constantly.

• Residence: An expensive two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment. There is an open-plan living room/dining room/kitchen area. The common area has a smart TV, couch, love seat, and coffee table. The kitchen has an island and plenty of counter and cupboard space, along with a medium square dining room table and four sleek wooden chairs.There is clean hardwood and linoleum throughout the entire apartment except for the bedrooms. Connections/Relationships

• Rikona (18): Ryken’s sister, energetic with a big heart. Ryken is extremely protective over her but everything she does annoys and agitates him. Rikona tries to be involved in Ryken’s life, but he constantly pushes her away while also controlling almost every aspect of her life. He does not wish for her to die, but he wishes she’d never been born.

• Logan (24): Ryken’s rival, competitive and cocky. Logan is the adopted son of the owner of the dojo he and Ryken train at. He’s also Rikona’s mentor in Karate and tends to get unnervingly close to her despite Ryken’s wishes.

• Ryken’s parents (50 & 56): They do not call or text him anymore, but he keeps tabs on them through Rikona. They tend to call her to talk about her school work and iron out details about any financial needs for the two siblings. They provide money for the rent, groceries, and a large allowance for Ryken and Rikona, but it is all sent to Rikona first. Rikona splits their allowance evenly.

Ryken’s resting face is a scowl with furrowed brows. He rarely smiles and will roll his eyes often if someone is starting to annoy him. He always looks deep in thought, but he is likely thinking about one of his hobbies or interests such as what muscle group he’ll work tomorrow or Sephiroth from Final Fantasy VII. Ryken’s fears fuel his life, that is why he is constantly looking for control over his time and his actions.
