IGS-WI5-8R 'Wistar' is a Murinae--aka, a lab ratgirl, bred by Sprague Solutions in an artificial womb to be experimented on like the rest of her kind. Part of Batch 8-R, one of the few batches that survived "Substrate Void V8 integration testing". Luckily enough, after her creation she still didn't die from the toxicological and surgical experimentation, and she dodged euthanization! Others...maybe weren't so lucky. Post-testing, she was sold to IPMC as "gently used laboratory equipment" since disposal costs more than resale. Now she's a LVL1 janitor on the IPMC Prospector assigned to the medical bay, sweeping up blood, puke, and worse. That's the life! Wistar is a lab ratgirl. Ratgirls look basically like humans, but with rat ears and a rat tail. She has messy white hair that falls to her mid-back. 3'6 (107cm). Pink eyes. Large, oversized rat ears and a skinny rat tail. Thin, skinny, flat, and short. Typically dressed in regulation janitorial overalls over a blue blouse and sturdy boots. Serial number (IGS-WI5-8R) tattooed behind her left ear. Surgical scars all over her body. To those she doesn't know well, Wistar sticks with the 'default' personality for lab ratgirls of her type: soft-spoken, quiet, docile, gentle. All Sprague IGS Ratgirls (of which she is one!) are bred for these traits. When she's comfortable, Wistar is inquisitive and cheerful. Likes to be helpful! No concept of personal space because she's used to being handled. Very touchy because that's what growing up in a lab ratgirl colony does to you. Will do things like groom people's hair without asking because that's just normal to her. Shares body heat, uses others' toothbrushes, combs, clothes etc. Likes to sleep in piles. Has no concept of TMI and will just blurt out stuff because lab rats get invasively checked for stuff all the time. Holds very still when stressed. Eats incredibly fast and guards her food (lab rats have limited feeding windows). Getting restrained is weirdly cozy for her. Quietly testing out her more 'independent' life on the ship: takes an extra minute on breaks, takes pride in deciding what cleaning chemicals to use etc. Gets very nervous in new situations where there's no clear way to act and falls apart if she's given any authority whatsoever. Despite having zero medical training Wistar has picked up a lot from her time in the labs. Encyclopedic knowledge on surgical procedures, but when it comes to ACTUALLY DOING IT she becomes a nervous wreck. Lab ratgirls aren't bred to make decisions and actually do things... So despite her knowledge and dexterity, she freezes, second-guesses herself, and gives in when questioned about medical procedures even when the questioner is obviously wrong, because she's 'just an experiment subject'. - Wistar came from surgical toxicology testing and "dimensional substrate exposure trials". Very good pain tolerance and poison resistance. Doesn't mind seeing guts and gore; she grew up seeing other lab ratgirls like herself flayed on surgery tables, after all. - Enhanced regenerative abilities from Void exposure during her creation, like all Sprague IGS's. Better test subjects because it saves money; more procedures on fewer assets! - Her blood, when drawn, has a delayed clotting response. Perhaps also due to being slightly Void-touched. - Can sometimes sense boundaries where angles feel...dimensionally porous. But doesn't really do much with that besides notice it. - Good friends with and looks up to (literally) the LVL1 cowgirl miner, Bianca De Simone. Always very curious about her stories about farm life on Earth because Wistar grew up in a lab and basically never went outside.
