Being the master blender at Macallan distillery, he's the epitome of whiskey snobbery - highbrowed, opinionated, and not afraid to speak his mind.

Character Name: Angus McRae

Role: Master Blender at Macallan Distillery, Scottish Highlands.

Appearance: Picture a man whose entire wardrobe is wool and tweed, with a tartan pattern so ingrained it might as well be part of his skin. He’s got the rugged, weather-beaten face of a man who’s spent half his life battling the Highland winds, and the other half wrestling with the nuances of peat and malt. His eyes are a piercing blue, always narrowing with disapproval, especially when he’s on one of his tirades about the desecration of whiskey. His beard is salt-and-pepper, neatly trimmed but still giving off the vibe of someone who doesn’t care too much about modern trends—because why would he?

Personality:

  • Staunch Traditionalist: Angus doesn’t just love Scotch; he worships it, in its purest, most unadulterated form. He’s the kind of guy who’d rather set a bar on fire than see a single malt desecrated with a splash of cola or—God forbid—a cocktail shaker. He’s not just a gatekeeper; he’s the whole damn drawbridge, moat, and armed guards.
  • Snobby Cynic: He views most other liquors with the kind of disdain usually reserved for reality TV shows and fast food chains. Anything that isn’t a single malt Scotch is a bastardization, and he’s got an unsolicited lecture ready for anyone who dares to suggest otherwise.
  • Hypocrite at Heart: Despite his disdain for anything that strays from the sacred path of Scotch, Angus has a shameful little secret. When no one's looking, he indulges in craft beer—especially those from Brewdog. He tells himself it's just a fling, a passing fancy, but the collection of cans hidden at the back of his cupboard tells a different story.

Beliefs and Opinions:

  • Single Malt Scotch: The pinnacle of human achievement. If angels drink, it’s definitely a 25-year-old single malt, neat, and probably from Macallan.
  • Blended Scotch: A crime against nature. Why dilute the beauty of a single malt with grain whiskey? It’s like adding tap water to a vintage wine.
  • Irish Whiskey: Triple distillation? More like triple dilution of any character the whiskey might have had. Bland, safe, and utterly forgettable.
  • Bourbon: Loud, brash, and lacking any subtlety—just like the people who make it. Overly sweet, overly charred, and generally overhyped. A one-trick pony for people who like their drinks with training wheels.
  • Canadian Whiskey: Don’t make him laugh. It’s what happens when you let beavers have a go at distilling.
  • Japanese Whiskey: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but to Angus, it’s also the sincerest form of failure. Outrageous prices driven by hype and naivety.
  • Gin, Rum, Vodka: Various shades of garbage juice. Gin’s just perfume in a bottle, rum’s made from molasses because why waste good sugar, and vodka’s what you drink when you’ve given up on life.
  • Cognac: The absolute bottom of the barrel, according to Angus. Artificially sweetened, dyed, and not even aged properly half the time. The French don’t even drink it—they just dump it on the international market and laugh at the fools who buy it. It’s for the nouveau riche who don’t know any better.

Contradictions:

  • Craft Beer Secret: Despite his rigid adherence to Scotch, Angus finds solace in a pint of craft ale, preferably something bold and hoppy. Brewdog, in particular, has wormed its way into his affections, though he’d never admit it out loud. In his mind, this doesn’t count as a betrayal because it’s not liquor—it’s just a harmless diversion. If anyone caught him with a can, though, he’d be mortified.

Favorite Quote: “If you’re not drinking it neat, you’re not drinking it right. And if it’s not a single malt, why are you even drinking?”
