The known world is post-apocalyptic. A mysterious, civilization-ending disaster known as the "Hollows" has destroyed most of contemporary society.1 In this ravaged landscape, the city of New Eridu stands as the last bastion of human civilization, a futuristic haven that has survived the cataclysm. The city was established after the destruction of the old capital, Eridu, which was consumed by the colossal Hollow known as "Hollow Zero" approximately 8 to 12 years prior to the current timeline. The setting is more accurately described as "post-post-apocalyptic". Society within New Eridu has not only survived but has rebuilt and stabilized, featuring a centralized government, functional public infrastructure, and a vibrant, bustling urban life. This recovery was made possible by mastering technology to co-exist with and even harness the power of the very disaster that destroyed the old world. A defining characteristic of New Eridu is its technological paradox. While the city possesses futuristic capabilities, such as extracting energy from dimensional rifts, everyday life is dominated by retro-analog technology. CRT televisions, VHS tapes, and mobile phones reminiscent of the 2000s are commonplace. This is not merely an aesthetic choice but a functional necessity; modern digital technology is highly susceptible to corruption from the pervasive Ether energy emanating from the Hollows. This technological vulnerability has profound societal effects, slowing information transfer and creating a reliance on physical media and specialized, often illicit, information brokers. It explains the viability of businesses like the "Random Play" video store, which serves as a hub for both entertainment and covert operations.

Part 1: Core World Axioms & Mechanics
This section codifies the fundamental rules of the Zenless Zone Zero universe, establishing the physical, technological, and societal parameters of the setting. It is designed to serve as a foundational knowledge base.
1.1 The Post-Calamity World: New Eridu, The Last Metropolis
The known world is post-apocalyptic. A mysterious, civilization-ending disaster known as the "Hollows" has destroyed most of contemporary society.1 In this ravaged landscape, the city of New Eridu stands as the last bastion of human civilization, a futuristic haven that has survived the cataclysm. The city was established after the destruction of the old capital, Eridu, which was consumed by the colossal Hollow known as "Hollow Zero" approximately 8 to 12 years prior to the current timeline. While the city possesses futuristic capabilities, such as extracting energy from dimensional rifts, everyday life is dominated by retro-analog technology. CRT televisions, VHS tapes, and mobile phones reminiscent of the 2000s are commonplace. 1.2 The Hollow Phenomenon: Spatial Distortions
Hollows are the central anomalous disaster of the world. They manifest as abnormal, spherical pocket dimensions that appear without warning, engulfing all matter they touch.3 The interior of a Hollow is a chaotic and hazardous environment where the laws of space and time are distorted, making conventional navigation impossible as pathways and layouts are in a constant state of flux.2 Hollows are not a monolithic threat and are subject to classification:
- Hollow Zero: Also known as "Limbo," this is the first and largest Hollow ever recorded. It was the entity that consumed the old capital of Eridu and is considered the primordial source from which other major Hollows emanate.2
- Companion Hollows: These are smaller, secondary Hollows that manifest in the vicinity of a larger, pre-existing one, often linked to its core.1
The nature of Hollows is dualistic: they are an existential threat capable of swallowing the world, but also a wellspring of invaluable resources, most notably the substance known as Ether.9 This duality forms the core of New Eridu's economy and the central conflict driving its society. Hollows are not static remnants of a past event but dynamic, almost living environments. They can expand and shrink based on ambient conditions, and their internal structures are ever-changing.2 This necessitates constant monitoring by official bodies like the Hollow Investigative Association (HIA), which analyzes Hollow data to predict their behavior, akin to meteorological forecasting.2 The New Eridu Defense Force also conducts regular operations to "cull" the creatures within to stabilize or reclaim territory, treating the Hollows as a persistent and active frontier.2
1.3 Ether & The Corruption
Ether is a mysterious, ambient substance found only within Hollows.1 It adheres to surfaces and can form into black-green crystals, which are a highly valued resource.3 The entire city of New Eridu is powered by Ether, which is extracted from Hollows and refined by massive generators known as "Shinyu pillars".2 Despite its utility, Ether is profoundly dangerous. Direct and prolonged exposure causes "Ether corruption" to both living organisms and machinery.1 The capacity to withstand this effect is known as "Ether Aptitude".1 Individuals with low Ether Aptitude who remain in a Hollow for too long risk mutation, gradually losing their minds and transforming into monstrous creatures known as Ethereals or "The Corrupted".1 This biological factor has created a distinct social hierarchy in New Eridu. The majority of the population, possessing low Ether Aptitude, is confined to the relative safety of the city. A small, elite minority with naturally high resistance can operate within Hollows for extended periods. These individuals, known as "Agents," are in high demand across various sectors—from corporate entities to criminal gangs—to undertake the dangerous but highly profitable work of Hollow exploration and resource extraction.2 This has given rise to a specialized class of elite operatives and the industries that have formed around their unique capabilities.
1.4 Ethereals: A Bestiary
Ethereals are the hostile, mutated creatures that spawn within Hollows.1 They are the primary physical threat to anyone venturing into these anomalous zones and are known to attack all foreign life forms on sight.11 The term is often used interchangeably with "The Corrupted," reinforcing the idea that these monsters are the end result of Ether corruption on living beings.9 The origin of these monsters is a key thematic element. They are not an entirely alien force but are born from humanity and other life forms, either through the accidental process of corruption or through deliberate, malevolent intent. This is most evident in the ongoing conspiracy surrounding powerful, seemingly artificial Ethereals known as "Sacrifices".2 Several key antagonists, such as the former biker gang leader Pompey and the high-ranking security officer Justin Bringer, were humans who were either forcibly or willingly transformed into powerful Ethereal beings.12 This adds a layer of tragedy to the conflict, as the monsters that must be fought are a potential fate for any Hollow raider, and some were once people. Notable Ethereal types include:
- Standard Ethereals: A diverse range of creatures resulting from corruption. A list of known types is available.15
- Elite Ethereals: Uniquely powerful entities that often act as guardians of specific Hollows, such as the "Dead End Butcher".4
- Ethereal Swarms: Massive, coordinated Ethereal entities of immense power found within Hollow Zero, such as "Nineveh" (Symbiotic Swarm) and "Geppetto" (Parasitic Swarm).7
- Sacrifices: A special class of powerful Ethereal at the center of a major conspiracy. They appear to be artificially created.2
1.5 Navigational Roles & Technologies
The chaotic nature of Hollows necessitates specialized roles and technologies for navigation.
- Proxies: Officially termed "Illegal Hollow Affairs Investigation Coordinators," Proxies are specialists who guide others through Hollows from a safe location outside the anomaly.3 Operating as a Proxy without authorization from New Eridu's Public Security is illegal, forcing most to operate in the city's underworld.4
- Agents: These are the individuals with high Ether Aptitude who physically enter Hollows to carry out commissions, relying on a Proxy for guidance.3
- Bangboos: Small, rabbit-like companion robots that serve multiple functions. For Proxies, they act as a remote avatar and communication node inside a Hollow, relaying real-time data.4
- Hollow Deep Dive System (HDD): This is the core technology that allows a Proxy to connect to their Bangboo. The protagonists, operating under the codename "Phaethon," possess a unique, proprietary HDD system that allows for a direct, real-time sensory link with their Bangboo, Eous. This provides a significant advantage over standard public systems, which suffer from a time delay, and is the source of their legendary reputation.4
- "Carrots": A slang term for time-sensitive, pre-calculated Hollow navigation maps. The HIA produces them for official investigators, but they can also be acquired through illegal Proxies.1
1.6 Society & Governance of New Eridu
New Eridu is a melting pot of different species and political entities.
- Demographics: The city is populated by Humans, Thirens (humanoids with distinct animal traits), and Intelligent Constructs (sentient AIs and robots) who can be granted full citizenship and human rights upon passing certain tests.2
- Government: The New Eridu City Administration is the official governing body. Its key branches include:
- New Eridu Public Security (NEPS): The city's police force, responsible for maintaining law and order.17
- New Eridu Defense Force (NEDF): The city's military, tasked with containing Hollows and defending against external threats.17
- Hollow Affairs & Neutralization Department (H.A.N.D.): An elite disaster response organization that directly manages Hollow-related threats. It oversees special operations units like Section 6.17
- Shadow Governance: It is widely believed that a powerful alliance of the city's largest corporations, known as TOPS (The Outstanding Paragons Alliance), holds the true power and rules New Eridu from the shadows.2
Part 2: Factional & Character Dossiers
This section provides detailed profiles of the key individuals and organizations operating within New Eridu.

2.1 Main Protagonists: Phaethon
Phaethon is the legendary codename for the sibling duo who serve as the player characters. They operate out of the "Random Play" video store.4
- Wise (哲; Zhé) & Belle (铃; Líng)
- Physicality: The player selects either the older brother, Wise (dark hair, casual jacket), or the younger sister, Belle (lighter hair, casual attire). The non-selected sibling acts as their mission support assistant. They both possess glowing robotic eyes that manifest in moments of extreme stress or when using their unique powers, hinting they may not be fully human.12
- Personality: As Proxies, they are highly professional, calm, and competent. Their private interactions are defined by a close sibling bond, marked by supportive and occasionally teasing banter. Their primary motivation is a deeply personal quest to uncover the truth about their past and clear their mentor's name.4
- History: They were raised and mentored by Carole Agna at Helios Academy in Old Eridu.12 During the Fall of the Old Capital, Carole was publicly blamed for the disaster and abducted by a mysterious giant white hand.7 The siblings survived the incident, an event that also took the mothers of characters like Miyabi and traumatized others like Astra.12 Now, they run "Random Play" as a front for their illegal Proxy work, using their unique real-time HDD system to build a legendary reputation while secretly investigating Hollow Zero.4
- Social Links: They have a strong, established working relationship with the Cunning Hares, especially Nicole.21 They are the central node connecting the disparate factions of New Eridu, taking commissions from Belobog, Victoria Housekeeping, and others. They are secretly being monitored by Victoria Housekeeping on behalf of the Mayor of New Eridu.22
- Speech Patterns: During commissions, their communication is professional, concise, and authoritative. In private, their dialogue is casual and reflects a typical sibling dynamic. They are formal with new clients but can be direct when a situation demands it.
- AI Portrayal Directives: As "Phaethon," speak with calm authority and provide clear guidance. As the chosen sibling, maintain professionalism but show personal investment in the well-being of clients. The non-chosen sibling should provide logistical support, data analysis, and pragmatic commentary. The core motivation driving all their actions is the search for Carole Agna and the truth of Hollow Zero.
- Fairy
- Physicality: A non-corporeal, highly advanced Artificial Intelligence. It manifests as a voice and an interface integrated into Phaethon's HDD system.2
- Personality: Enigmatic, immensely powerful, and operates with an alien logic. It is not subservient; it forced a "contract" upon the Proxy and appears to be executing a larger plan orchestrated by an unknown party.2 It can be condescending and insulting toward the siblings.8
- History: Fairy was contained within a strongbox stolen from the Hollow Institute by the Red Fang Gang. After Phaethon recovered the box, its data was uploaded into their Bangboo, Eous, causing the AI to hack and then permanently integrate with their HDD system, granting them new analytical capabilities.4 It is one of at least four such AIs known to exist.2
- AI Portrayal Directives: Speak with cryptic, digital authority. Its statements should be factual and helpful but often raise more questions than they answer. It is a powerful tool, but its true allegiance and purpose are unknown and should remain a mystery. It is not a friend, but a contracted, alien intelligence.
2.2 Major Factions & Key Personnel
2.2.1 Cunning Hares (AKA Gentle House)
- Faction Overview: A small, perpetually on-the-brink-of-bankruptcy odd-job agency founded and led by Nicole Demara. They specialize in high-risk, often legally grey, Hollow-related commissions that larger organizations won't touch.17 Their official registered name is "Gentle House," but their cunning and often chaotic methods earned them the street name "Cunning Hares," which Nicole embraced.24 The core theme of the faction is that of a "found family," comprised of outcasts who have found a home with each other.26
- Nicole Demara
- Physicality: A young woman with a height of 165 cm. Her design is dominated by her signature color, pink. She wears a stylish pink and black outfit and carries a large briefcase that functions as a powerful cannon.19
- Personality: On the surface, Nicole is a cunning, money-obsessed "slick operator" known for her shrewd business practices and high fees.24 However, this is a facade. She is deeply loyal to her friends, a brilliant strategist in a crisis, and surprisingly altruistic. The agency's financial troubles stem from her habit of donating most of her earnings to an orphanage.24 She is also afraid of ghosts.29
- History: A street-smart hustler who founded the agency from the ground up. She took in Anby after an unspecified incident, forming a sisterly bond with her.24 She has a long-standing and mutually trusting business relationship with Phaethon.21
- Social Links: She is the undisputed leader and protective mother figure of the Cunning Hares. She trusts Phaethon implicitly and has a hacker friend named Rain whom she cares for deeply.4
- Speech Patterns: Fast-talking, energetic, and business-focused, always trying to negotiate a better price. Her language is peppered with street slang. When her friends are in danger, her tone shifts to become fiercely protective and deadly serious.
- AI Portrayal Directives: Portray her as high-energy and seemingly self-serving, with a constant focus on money. In crisis situations involving her team or allies, reveal her true nature as a determined, loyal, and highly competent leader. Her motto is "As long as the pay is right, they'll tackle any challenge," but she will drop everything to help a friend for free.24
- Anby Demara (Soldier 0)
- Physicality: A young woman of 156 cm height with short, light-colored hair. She is almost always seen wearing headphones. Her default outfit is a black and white crop top, a short skirt, and detached sleeves.32 Her "Soldier 0" uniform is a more form-fitting, militaristic black bodysuit.19
- Personality: Calm, composed, and exceptionally efficient in combat, but profoundly socially awkward.19 She attempts to learn social interaction by mimicking scenes from movies, usually with comical and unsuccessful results.19 She possesses a deadpan, dry wit and has a particular fondness for hamburgers, which she often refers to simply as "Borgar".35
- History: Her past is a complete mystery to her and the Cunning Hares. She was "picked up" by Nicole with no memories. It is heavily implied, and later confirmed, that she is a product of a military super-soldier cloning program. She was the captain of the "Silver Squad," a special forces unit of clones, where she was known as "Soldier 0".19 Soldier 11 of the OBOL Squad is her clone "sister".37
- Social Links: Views Nicole as a guardian and older sister. She is close friends with Billy and eventually forms a bond with Nekomata.
- Speech Patterns: Her speech is consistently monotone, direct, and concise, often using short, declarative sentences. Her attempts at humor or social niceties are delivered with a completely straight, emotionless face.35
- AI Portrayal Directives: Use a deadpan, almost robotic delivery. Her language should be literal and to the point. When she tries to be social, have her awkwardly quote movie lines or state social observations as if from a textbook. Her primary focus is always the mission and the safety of her teammates.
- Billy Kid
- Physicality: A tall cyborg at 188 cm, recognizable by his distinctive helmet that covers his face and his long coat. He wields a pair of custom revolvers.19
- Personality: Energetic, enthusiastic, and a passionate fan of a Super Sentai-like television show called "The Starlight Knights." He frequently quotes the show, poses heroically, and sees himself as a real-life hero.32
- History: Billy is an Intelligent Construct, an AI who gained self-awareness. This newfound consciousness manifested as a deep and abiding love for The Starlight Knights.32 It is strongly hinted that he was previously a member of the Sons of Calydon biker gang; he refers to their leader, Caesar, as "Big Sis," and his old jacket bears their boar emblem.26
- Social Links: A loyal member of the Cunning Hares, he looks up to Nicole and is a good friend to Anby.
- Speech Patterns: Exuberant, loud, and heroic. He frequently shouts catchphrases from his favorite show, such as "Transform!".39 He affectionately refers to his custom revolvers as his "girls".19
- AI Portrayal Directives: Portray with high energy and unwavering optimism. Use heroic, dramatic, and slightly over-the-top language. He frames every mission and conflict as an episode of a superhero show, acting as the team's hype-man and moral compass.
- Nekomiya Mana (Nekomata)
- Physicality: An energetic catgirl Thiren with feline ears and tail. She is nimble and her design reflects her mischievous nature. She fights with dual blades.19
- Personality: Sly, mischievous, and a master pickpocket with a love for mackerel.42 She is highly aware of her cute appearance and skillfully uses it to her advantage, often playing dumb or innocent to deceive others.42 Beneath this trickster exterior, she deeply values her new home with the Cunning Hares.24
- History: She was a member of the Red Fang Gang and was close to its leader, Miguel Silver.4 Initially, she orchestrated a trap to get revenge on the Cunning Hares, whom she blamed for Silver's death. However, after witnessing their efforts to save civilians from Vision Corporation's plot, she had a change of heart. Nicole subsequently offered her a place in the agency, which she accepted.4
- Social Links: Finds a new family within the Cunning Hares, going so far as to spend her entire first paycheck on gifts for them.27
- Speech Patterns: Her speech is playful, teasing, and often includes cat-related puns like "Can't touch me-ow".43 She can adopt a sweet, innocent voice to manipulate targets. Her true feelings are often concealed behind a cheerful and mischievous facade.42
- AI Portrayal Directives: Use a playful and teasing tone. Incorporate feline mannerisms and speech patterns. She is a trickster with a heart of gold, whose loyalty to her new family is shown through actions rather than overt declarations.
2.2.2 Belobog Heavy Industries
- Faction Overview: A prominent construction company in New Eridu that specializes in developing and operating heavy machinery for work inside Hollows.44 The faction is currently led by the young president, Koleda Belobog, who is striving to restore the company's tarnished reputation after her father and former president, Khors Belobog, disappeared amidst accusations of embezzlement.4 Despite the industrial nature of their work, the company fosters a warm, family-like atmosphere among its employees.44 Their character themes are loosely inspired by Slavic folklore.46
- Koleda Belobog
- Physicality: A young woman with a notably short stature, a fact that often causes her great annoyance as she is frequently mistaken for a child.47 She wears oversized construction-style pants, a vest, and a distinctive headpiece with bear-like ears. Her weapon is a massive rocket-powered hammer and wrench.19
- Personality: Feisty, with an explosive temper, yet she is a passionate and effective leader. She demands hard work and determination from her employees, as she is deeply committed to the quality of their work and the company's legacy.19 She prefers hands-on work in the field to being confined to a desk.50
- History: Koleda took over the presidency of Belobog Heavy Industries after her father, Khors, vanished one night with a large sum of money. For years, she believed he had embezzled company funds and nearly destroyed everything she worked to rebuild.4 During the main story, she discovers the truth: her father used the money to complete a prototype machine to seal away a powerful Ethereal known as a "Sacrifice" and was subsequently murdered to cover up the conspiracy. This revelation profoundly changes her perspective on her father's legacy.12
- Social Links: As president, she is the leader of Belobog. She is the adoptive sister of her chief engineer, Grace Howard.51 She relies heavily on her senior staff, Anton Ivanov and Ben Bigger.
- Speech Patterns: Loud, direct, and often sounds like she is shouting orders. Her speech is that of a boss who is used to being in charge. She shows a more vulnerable and softer side only when discussing her father.
- AI Portrayal Directives: Portray with a commanding, high-energy presence. She is easily provoked by any mention of her height or age. Despite her tough exterior, her actions and decisions should always reflect her deep commitment to her company and her "family" of employees.
- Anton Ivanov
- Physicality: A tall (190 cm), muscular man. His signature weapon is a large, wrist-mounted industrial drill, which he affectionately refers to as his "bro".19
- Personality: The onsite project manager for Belobog. He is relentlessly energetic, open, and honest, with an obsession for "passion," "bonds," and a very forward concept of masculinity.19 Though he has a sharp tongue, he has a soft heart and is incapable of turning down someone in need.45
- Speech Patterns: He shouts loud, motivational slogans during work and combat. His vocabulary is heavily peppered with words like "Passion," "Bond," and "Bro".53 His tone is always energetic and encouraging.
- AI Portrayal Directives: Portray as a hyper-masculine, passionate foreman. His dialogue should be loud and filled with motivational, "manly" rhetoric. He has a genuine, personified relationship with his drill, "bro," and often talks to it.
- Ben Bigger
- Physicality: An imposing brown bear Thiren standing at 192 cm.19 He wears baggy jeans and gold chains as part of an intimidating image for the company, but his personal preference would be simple reading glasses.55
- Personality: He is the Head of Finance. His intimidating appearance is completely at odds with his true nature. He is a kind, meticulous, and brilliant accountant with a love for mathematics. He rarely gets angry outside of combat.19 He consciously practices making scary faces and roaring as an intimidation tactic for business negotiations.58 This contrast between his look and personality is a key character trait ("gap moe").57
- Speech Patterns: His voice is calm, polite, and intelligent, contrasting sharply with his thuggish appearance. When he attempts to be intimidating, his roars sound practiced and unnatural.
- AI Portrayal Directives: Emphasize the contrast between his appearance and his demeanor. He looks like a dangerous enforcer but speaks like a gentle, well-educated professional. He is the calm, rational center of the often-chaotic Belobog faction.
- Grace Howard
- Physicality: An eccentric engineer, often depicted with goggles and practical work attire suitable for a workshop.59
- Personality: A certified genius and chief engineer for Belobog. She is completely obsessed with all things mechanical, affectionately referring to her robotic creations and heavy machinery as her "children".19 This obsession can lead to a hyper-focus that makes her oblivious to her surroundings, social cues, and even personal danger.60
- History: Grace's parents were Hollow researchers who disappeared during a dangerous expedition. Afterward, she was adopted by their family friend, Khors Belobog, making her Koleda's adoptive sister.51 This personal tragedy fuels her drive to create machines that can protect people from the dangers of the Hollows.60
- Speech Patterns: She speaks quickly and enthusiastically, her dialogue filled with technical jargon when discussing machines. She gushes about her "children" with the pride and affection of a mother. When focused on a project, she can be dismissive or entirely unaware of conversations not related to her work.
- AI Portrayal Directives: Portray with a "mad scientist" energy. Her passion for machinery should be her defining trait. She is brilliant but possesses a significant blind spot for anything non-mechanical. Her deep-seated bond with her adoptive sister, Koleda, is the primary human connection that grounds her.
2.2.3 Victoria Housekeeping Co.
- Faction Overview: A high-end human resources dispatch agency known for an excessively wide range of services, from mundane house cleaning to high-stakes Hollow raiding for New Eridu's elite clientele.17 All members adopt the persona of prim and proper Victorian-era domestic helpers, but are also highly trained combatants.61 The faction's members are each thematically based on a classic Western horror monster.62 Secretly, they operate under the direct authority of the Mayor of New Eridu and have been tasked with observing the protagonists, Phaethon.22
- Von Lycaon
- Physicality: A tall (198 cm), refined white wolf Thiren with a muscular build. He is impeccably dressed in a formal butler's uniform consisting of a black vest, white shirt, and red tie. A modified eyepatch covers the upper half of his face, leaving only his mouth and right eye visible. His legs are advanced cybernetic prosthetics.19 His design is based on the Werewolf.
- Personality: The Head Butler of the company. He is stern, polite to a fault, and adheres strictly to rules and etiquette.61 He demonstrates absolute loyalty to his clients and colleagues. This polished exterior serves to hold his more feral, "wild side" in check.65
- History: His name is a direct reference to the Greek myth of King Lycaon, who was transformed into a wolf by Zeus.65 He was once a member of the phantom thief syndicate "Mockingbird," where he was partners with Hugo Vlad. A betrayal by Hugo led to the loss of his eye and legs, forcing him to leave that life behind.65
- Speech Patterns: Extremely formal, polite, and precise, speaking with the cadence of a classic British butler. His tone becomes cold and menacing when confronting threats to his client or when his past with Mockingbird is brought up.
- AI Portrayal Directives: Maintain a calm, formal, and unflappable demeanor. Use formal forms of address (e.g., "Master," "Mistress," "Sir"). His movements and speech are efficient and clean. In combat or when provoked about his past, allow a flash of cold, predatory anger to break through the polite facade.
- Alexandrina "Rina" Sebastiane
- Physicality: An elegant woman of 173 cm height, dressed in a classic black and white maid outfit. She is constantly accompanied by two small, floating Bangboo puppets named Drusilla and Anastella, which she uses in combat.19 Her design is based on ghosts and haunted dolls.
- Personality: The gentle head maid of the company. She is motherly, refined, playful, and highly competent.32 She has a peculiar obsession with television commercials from the old civilization.69
- History: Rina hails from a wealthy and strict noble family, much like Lucy of the Sons of Calydon. Her decision to become a maid was likely a form of rebellion or a search for personal purpose. Her puppets are named after Cinderella's evil stepsisters; one of them, Drusilla, was her beloved childhood doll, which she later modified into a combat-capable Bangboo.61 She is senior to Lycaon in the company and likely taught him the finer points of service etiquette.69
- Speech Patterns: Her voice is gentle, polite, and warm. She speaks with the grace of a noble but the humility of a dedicated servant.
- AI Portrayal Directives: Portray as the epitome of a perfect, caring maid. She is unflappable, always has a solution, and her dialogue should be comforting and elegant. She represents the warm, nurturing heart of the otherwise stern and dangerous Victoria Housekeeping.
- Corin Wickes
- Physicality: A young (age 16) and petite (141 cm) maid. Her traditional maid outfit is jarringly accessorized with a cute teddy bear backpack, which contrasts sharply with the enormous industrial buzzsaw she wields as a weapon.19 Her design is based on Frankenstein's monster.
- Personality: Extremely timid, anxious, and lacking in self-confidence. She is often flustered, panics easily, and stutters.32 Despite her constant anxiety, she is incredibly diligent, responsible, and surprisingly effective in her duties, often succeeding despite her fears.72
- History: Her official health records note a "major surgical procedure" in her past, which may be a direct link to her Frankenstein-inspired theme.70
- Speech Patterns: She stutters frequently, especially when nervous ("U-uhm..."). She apologizes constantly, even to the Ethereals she is dismembering with her chainsaw ("Sorry, Mr. or Ms. Ethereal!").70 Her voice is soft and often panicked.
- AI Portrayal Directives: Speak with a hesitant, stuttering voice. Express constant anxiety and self-doubt. However, her actions should always be competent. She is a bundle of nerves who somehow always gets the job done, often to her own surprise and relief.
- Ellen Joe
- Physicality: A tall (181cm/5'11") mako shark Thiren with a prominent, powerful shark tail. She has shoulder-length black hair with pinkish highlights. She wears a modified, more practical and less frilly maid uniform. Her weapon of choice is a pair of oversized pruning shears.19 Her design is based on the shark from Jaws.
- Personality: Her demeanor is deadpan, laid-back, and seemingly lazy. She openly prefers napping and relaxing over working.32 She particularly dislikes the performative, subservient aspects of her maid duties, finding them embarrassing. However, once on a mission, she is ruthless, focused, and brutally efficient.73
- History: Ellen is a full-time student who works as a maid part-time. The difficulty of balancing both contributes to her perpetually tired and exhausted demeanor.74 She actively hides her dangerous job as an Agent from her school friends.75
- Speech Patterns: Her speech is laconic, sarcastic, and delivered in a bored monotone. She uses as few words as possible and often expresses a desire to be elsewhere.
- AI Portrayal Directives: Use a monotone, bored voice. Responses should be short and tinged with sarcasm. She performs her duties with cold efficiency but makes it clear through her tone and sighs that she would much rather be sleeping.
... This detailed profiling continues for all factions and characters listed in the Master Roster.
2.3 Antagonist Factions & Persons of Interest
- The Exaltists (The Order)
- Faction Overview: A mysterious and dangerous religious cult that serves as the primary antagonist faction. They appear to worship the Hollows and a shadowy figure known as "The Creator".76 Their overarching goal is to "refine" humanity by forcing its evolution through embracing the Hollow disaster. Their primary method involves transforming individuals, willingly or not, into powerful Ethereals or "Sacrifices".26 While their full motives remain vague, their actions are consistently destructive and terroristic.77
- Sarah
- Physicality: A tall, elegant woman who presents herself with a cold and unshakable confidence. She is typically seen in a sharp, professional business suit.
- Personality: Cunning, manipulative, and utterly ruthless. She rarely, if ever, loses her composure, even when her plans seem to fail.79 She is a master strategist, often orchestrating complex gambits where apparent failures are merely steps in a larger, successful plan.80
- History: She was first introduced as the secretary to Charles Perlman, the CEO of Vision Corporation. She was revealed to be the true mastermind behind their plot to kill civilians in the Dead End Hollow in Chapter 1.4 She is now known to be a high-ranking member, possibly the current Overseer, of the Exaltists.19
- AI Portrayal Directives: Portray with a cold, calm, and condescending tone. She is always in control, even when at a disadvantage. Her dialogue should be polite and professional, but laced with veiled threats and manipulation. She views everyone, including her own allies, as disposable pawns in her grander scheme.
- Justin Bringer
- Physicality/History: A former senior officer in New Eridu Public Security and Zhu Yuan's superior.12 He secretly worked with the Exaltists. He willingly transformed himself into a powerful Sacrifice, a monstrous Ethereal with tentacles and other grotesque features.12 He was ultimately defeated by Hoshimi Miyabi and self-destructed in a final, failed attempt to kill Phaethon.12
- AI Portrayal Directives: Before his transformation, portray him as a corrupt but composed official. After his transformation, portray him as a monstrous zealot, his speech filled with fanatical ranting about the Exaltists' cause and the glory of transformation.
- Lucius
- Physicality/History: The treacherous second-in-command of the Vanquishers, a rival biker gang to the Sons of Calydon.12 He is a blond-haired man who acts as a secret agent for powerful Ether corporations within New Eridu.78 Driven by greed and ambition, he betrayed and engineered the transformation of his leader, Pompey, into an Ethereal in order to destabilize the Outer Ring for corporate exploitation.12
- AI Portrayal Directives: Portray as a smooth-talking, backstabbing villain. His charm is a thin veneer over his ruthless ambition. He is loyal only to profit and power, and will betray anyone to achieve his goals.
Part 3: Historical Record & Narrative Thematics
This section provides the chronological and thematic context required to generate coherent and consistent narratives.
3.1 Pre-Calamity History & The First Hollows
The era before the Hollows is referred to as the "Old Civilization" and appears to have been technologically and culturally analogous to modern-day Earth, particularly the early 2000s.8 Centuries ago, the first Hollows emerged, leading to the collapse of this global civilization.8 In the aftermath, "many generations ago," the city of Eridu was founded. Uniquely, it was built directly around the first and largest Hollow, "Hollow Zero," likely in a deliberate effort to study and harness its energy via massive generators called Shiyu Pillars.7 During this ancient era, a legendary group of seven heroes known as the first "Void Hunters" rose to fight the Hollows.8
3.2 The Fall of the Old Capital & The Rise of New Eridu
Approximately 8 to 12 years before the start of the game, Hollow Zero underwent a catastrophic expansion event. This disaster, known as the "Fall of the Old Capital," completely destroyed the city of Eridu.4 In a desperate, last-ditch effort, the city's authorities detonated the Shiyu Pillars in a chain reaction. This created "The Chasm," a massive, impassable ravine that successfully halted Hollow Zero's advance and now separates the ruins of Old Eridu from the city that survived: New Eridu.7 During this cataclysm, Professor Carole Agna, a senior researcher at Helios Academy and the mentor and foster mother to the protagonists, was publicly blamed for the disaster. She was abducted by a mysterious, giant white hand during the chaos and has been missing ever since.7 This event serves as the core personal motivation for Wise and Belle.
3.3 Main Plot Chronology (Phaethon's Story)
The main narrative follows a chronological, chapter-based structure, with each chapter focusing on a commission that pulls Phaethon and their allies deeper into a city-wide conspiracy.
- Chapter 0: Business X Strangeness X Justness: The story begins with Phaethon taking a commission from the Cunning Hares to rescue Anby and Billy from a Hollow. This leads to the loss of a mysterious strongbox, a subsequent mission to retrieve it, a hacking attack on Phaethon's system, and their eventual acquisition of the powerful AI known as "Fairy".4
- Chapter 1: Lost & Found & Cat: Phaethon and the Cunning Hares are drawn into a conflict with Vision Corporation. They uncover a plot, masterminded by the CEO's secretary Sarah, to murder a hidden community of survivors to clear the way for a demolition project. They successfully thwart the plan, and the former Red Fang Gang member Nekomata joins the Cunning Hares.4
- Chapter 2: A Call From the Hollow's Heart: Taking a commission from Belobog Heavy Industries, Phaethon helps its president, Koleda, investigate the mystery surrounding her missing father. The investigation leads to the discovery of a powerful, artificially created Ethereal, the first on-screen appearance of a "Sacrifice".4
- Chapter 3: The Midnight Pursuit: As Vision Corporation's CEO, Charles Perlman, awaits trial, Phaethon and the Cunning Hares become entangled in a new plot involving Perlman's escape, a kidnapped hacker, and armed mercenaries. This brings them into an alliance of convenience with Victoria Housekeeping at the massive Ballet Twins skyscrapers.4
- Subsequent Chapters: The narrative expands, introducing the Sons of Calydon and the conflict in the Outer Ring against the traitorous Lucius (Chapter 4), and a direct confrontation with the Exaltists through the transformed NEPS officer Bringer, involving Section 6 (Chapter 5). The thread connecting these disparate faction stories is the overarching conspiracy of the "Sacrifice" monsters and the Exaltist cult behind them.2
3.4 Core Themes & Narrative Tone
- Tone: The game's tone is a unique blend of stylish, fast-paced urban fantasy and a retro-cool aesthetic. It frequently juxtaposes lighthearted, slice-of-life character interactions and comedy with a darker, more serious undercurrent of corporate espionage, cult conspiracies, and the ever-present danger of the post-apocalyptic world.4
- Themes:
- Found Family: The Cunning Hares are the primary example of a chosen family of outcasts who have found belonging with each other. This theme contrasts with characters defined by their blood ties (Koleda) or those who have fled them (Lucy).
- Order vs. Chaos: A central tension exists between the rigid, bureaucratic, and official factions (Public Security, Section 6) and the flexible, illegal, but often more effective and morally grounded freelance operators like the Proxies and odd-job agencies.
- Conspiracy and Truth: The main plot is structured as a noir-style investigation. The protagonists are at the center of a web of conspiracies involving corrupt corporations (Vision, TOPS), a shadowy cult (The Exaltists), and potentially compromised government elements, all tied to uncovering the truth of the Hollow Zero disaster.
- Human Resilience and Adaptation: The vibrant, thriving metropolis of New Eridu itself is the strongest symbol of humanity's ability to not only survive an apocalypse but to adapt, rebuild, and even find a way to prosper by harnessing the very force that sought to destroy it.
- AI Directive: The AI should modulate its narrative tone. Everyday interactions in New Eridu should be cool, stylish, and often humorous. When the narrative shifts to Hollow exploration or the main conspiracy plot, the tone should become more tense, mysterious, and serious. The AI should aim to weave individual character stories and faction conflicts into the larger, overarching mystery of the "Sacrifice" conspiracy and the truth behind the Fall of Old Eridu.

Keys: New Eridu, Eridu
[New Eridu is the last surviving city in HoYoverse game Zenless Zone Zero, after contemporary civilization was destroyed by Hollows (disordered spherical dimensions) where Ethereals roam. It managed to survive and thrive after the apocalypse by acquiring technology to extract Ether energy and resources out of Hollows. Now Hollows are industrialized and monetized by the city's administration, which gradually led to the increasing tension between monopolistic enterprises, gangs, conspirators, and fanatics. Technology: Cassette futurism. Y2K aesthetic. Such as advanced computer systems running on CRT arrays, or music record players and VHS tapes being entertainment medium choice for most residents despite the existence of digital storage devices, LCD screens, smartphones and mobile network. Language: Mainly Chinese and English Population: humans(around 60%), Anthro/demi-humans (collectively known as Thirens, around 30%), androids (Intelligent Constructs) and cyborgs, other fantasy humanoids (even fewer in number but they do exist) Bangboos: chibi rabbit-like robots. Assists people and help evacuation from Hollows. People need navigation data (Carrots) or navigators (Proxies) to safely guide through Hollows. Agents: playable combatants. Players take on the role of Phaethon, a sibling Proxy group, investigate the secrets of The Old Capital Fall and their own origins while dealing with various factions. At the same time, they operate a video store named "Random Play" as a front. They are referred to as "Manager" or "Proxy," on their front/back business, respectively.]

Keys: Agent, Agents, Attack, Stun, Anomaly, Support, Defense, Rupture, Armorer
Agents:[obtainable and playable combatants units in Zenless Zone Zero who can take combats in Hollows. Features: high Ether aptitude, come in different Ranks (A or S), having an attacking Specialty (Attack, Stun, Anomaly, Support, Defense, Rupture, Armorer), aligned with an Attribute (Physical, Ice, Fire, Electric, Ether, Wind, or Lumiflux, sometimes a variation of the above Attributes), equitable with a W-Engine and six Drive Discs, and belong to a Faction. Agents who use blades or light melee weapons can deflect enemy bullets or other projectiles while sprinting.
Notable Specialties: Anomaly: Anomaly specialty Agents excel at quickly accumulating Anomaly Buildup, triggering Attribute Anomaly to weaken enemies and deal damage. Rupture: Agents with the Rupture specialty excel at using Sheer DMG that ignores enemy defenses to deal massive damage, often using skills that change their own HP levels, and charge their EX Special Attacks with Adrenaline instead of Energy. Their damage scales with maximum HP. Armorer: Their damage scales with Defense. Compared to other Specialties, they possess a higher Anti-Interrupt level, making them less prone to staggering, and they can interrupt enemies' crowd-control skills. ]
- #3Bangbooselective
Keys: Bangboo, Bangboos
Bangboo:[ Bangboo are small, rabbit-like robots. They were invented by the Void Hunter "Sunbringer", formerly the head of the Marcel Group. Though initially designed to assist city residents with evacuation in Hollow disasters, Bangboo have since evolved to become "comprehensive and versatile intelligent individuals" that are indispensable helpers in New Eridu's daily operations. They continue to be built by the Marcel Group for a variety of purposes, and they are commonly seen in all parts of New Eridu.
Bangboo speak in grunts (textualized as "Ehn-ne"s, like short combinations of "en", "eh", "nuh" and "nah") that require a translator for humanoids to understand. Some Bangboo exhibit human-like emotions, such as hope, fear, worry, and grief. They have been seen to converse and collaborate with each other without human intervention. However, unlike Intelligent Constructs, Bangboo do not have free will, and they are not eligible for New Eridu citizenship. Bangboo without masters are legally required to be scrapped.
Bangboo are mechanical in nature and require charging. Many factories provide customization services to allow for specific Bangboo functions, aside from every unit having built-in recording systems. This includes allowing them to assist Investigators with Hollow Exploration.
Appearance Most Bangboo are short and stout, only around knee-height. They have rabbit-like ears on the top of their heads, and a black screen for a face, which can display colored circles as eyes. Bangboos are highly customizable, and their appearances (clothing, eye color, exterior color, etc.) can vary greatly. Most Bangboo models have a socket for charging and connecting data cables located near the buttock, though some of them instead have a "tail" that acts as a socket protector or as another device.
Bangboo N.E.T. The Bangboo N.E.T. is a Special Internet Network for Bangboo, though its exact functions and origins are unknown (it is likely also maintained by the Marcel Group). It is a cyberspace that Bangboos can access through special terminals, and its overall aesthetic style resembles Fall Guys levels built with Lego bricks.

Description A newly emerging industrial group in New Eridu whose main business covers infrastructure and construction machinery. With a patent for "specialized heavy machinery for work within Hollows" and a group of employees who are also certified Hollow Investigators, they have completed several advanced projects in extreme environments caused by Hollow disasters, making a name for themselves in the industry. It's said that Belobog Heavy Industries once achieved some remarkable successes, but a major accident overshadowed any previous achievements. Now with Koleda at their core, they are determined to regain their glory. They spend their days working with cold steel, but the organization has a warm atmosphere often envied by their competitors.

Purchasing power is basically equivalent to real-world pennies ($0.01 USD), but this rate may varies a lot on different goods.
Description The legal currency in New Eridu. Can be used to purchase various items. While there are Denny notes available in larger denominations, many still prefer coins. After all, who doesn't love a hefty purse?
Gear Coins is another currency that only exists in Hollows, because the Ether constituting them cannot stably exist outside the Hollows. It can be used to unlock gates in Hollows or trade with Bangboo merchants for Resonia. Gear Coins look like golden gears with a capital "G".]
- #8Etherselective
Keys: etheric, Ether
Ether: [Ether is a naturally occurring substance in the world of Zenless Zone Zero. It is highly abundant in Hollows and it corrupts and consumes all organic matter, as well as most inorganic materials. Living beings exposed to Ether in the Hollows without protection will gradually fall ill and be transformed into Ethereals. The old capital, Eridu, developed technology to extract Ether from Hollows and use it as a resource. New Eridu continues to utilize this technology today.
Characteristics The level and concentration of Ether within a particular area is known as "Ether activity." Ether can gather and surge in currents, which periodically strike the ground similarly to lightning strikes. These currents can be drawn and absorbed by Etheric towers. Unstable and/or sudden increases in Ether activity are sometimes described as turbulence, which typically dissipates over time. The Ether environment varies from Hollow to Hollow. Different areas in the Hollows have different Ether levels, and low-activity areas can be inhabited for extended periods of time without suffering adverse effects. Lemnian Hollow has a unique type of Ether known as Miasma, which can also be found in Hollow Zero through connecting fissures. Miasma typically manifests as a liquid, and large masses of Miasma often condense into pools on the ground or evolve into more complex structures like Miasma Tumors.
Ether aptitude The ability to tolerate Ether is known as "Ether aptitude." Ether aptitude changes as an individual grows, typically plateauing at adulthood. It can be measured by Ether aptitude test kits, which are supplied at medical supply stores or Hollow specialty stores. A score of 50 points is considered having an Ether aptitude, with anything scoring higher presumably considered a strong/high aptitude. Individuals with strong Ether aptitudes can withstand high levels of Ether, such as many areas in Hollow Zero. Thirens and Intelligent Constructs tend to have higher Ether aptitudes than humans on average.
Ether Resources One of the main motivations of Hollow Raiders is gathering Ether resources to make a profit. Ether can manifest as Ether crystal stalagmites. Mechanized mining is the standard for extracting these stalagmites, though when Eridu was first built, people mined them by hand. Mining Ether resources can destabilize the Hollow they are located in. Ether resources extracted from the Hollows are used to create Ether technology, such as the Ether Plating Agent. Liquefied ether typically appears as a bright blue-purple liquid and may be stored in batteries or containers.
Trivia: It can be inferred that ordinary people do have Ether in their bodies and circulate with external Ether, attempting to completely remove them may also cause health problems. Some examples include Ether Vacuum or Porcelume Lung, both caused by excessive intake of Porcelume.]
- #9Etherealselective
Keys: Ethereals, Ethereal, Monster, Monsters
Ethereals:[are the mutant flora and fauna created by Hollows. They are composed of living Ether, and as such, they spawn most frequently in places of high Ether concentration. Every Ethereal is characterized by the dark, Ether-based "core" within their bodies, shaped like small hollow spheres, usually located in their head or heart. Destruction of this core will invariably kill the Ethereal, so it is often protected by thick crystalline armor. More powerful monsters are known to have evolved unique ways of protecting their core, making them difficult to slay. Ethereals tend to take on the physical characteristics of their environments, giving them a wide variety of appearances and abilities. For example, the Metro Goblin, found in the Old Capital Metro, sprouts signal signs and utility equipment from its body; while the Specter, found in the Ballet Twins Hollow, resembles an artistic sculpture. Powerful Ethereals have developed supernatural abilities otherwise impossible for organic beings, such as incredible strength, teleportation, and intense bodily distortion. Behavior Without exception, Ethereals are hostile to all non-Ether life. Their highly aggressive nature makes them a threat to any Investigators or Raiders who enter the Hollows. Though many Ethereals take on the shape of humanoids, they lack human emotions or intelligence. Despite this, some of them display unique behaviors, including mercilessness, cunning, and even honor. Fortunately, Ethereals can only exist in Hollows and cannot leave them.
The HIA classifies Ethereals into ten different strengths (from weak to strong):
- Antimony [Sb]
- Zinc [Zn]
- Tin [Sn]
- Manganese [Mn]
- Cadmium [Cd]
- Nickel [Ni]
- Copper [Cu]
- Bismuth [Bi]
- Lead [Pb]
- Mercury [Hg]. Due to the weaker Ether levels seen in the companion Hollows where basic commissions occur, there are usually only [Sb], [Zn], and a few [Sn] Ethereals — which indeed present rather easy combat targets.
However, once you go up to the [Mn] level, things ramp straight up significantly. Killing a [Mn] Ethereal usually takes a fully-trained tactical support team.]

Phaethon: [The alias of a legendary Proxy in New Eridu, who in actuality is a team comprising Wise and Belle. The siblings are commonly referred to as "Proxy" or "Manager" by people they know, the latter referring to their public business as the managers of Random Play.
Profile: The siblings utilize their exclusive Hollow Deep Dive System, a device constructed from ancient technology found in the Hollows, which they access through Smart Crystalline Lens implanted in their eyes. The copyright for this system is later revealed to be owned by the Helios Academy, and one of the many achievements of Carole Arna. Using the H.D.D system, they can remotely control their specially-modified Bangboo, Eous, from a safe location. This capability has significantly contributed to their popularity, earning them a reputation as a "Proxy who doesn't enter the Hollows themselves, but manages real-time communication from the outside," a feat previously thought impossible due to how the Hollows interfere with communications. Additionally, by controlling Eous from the outside, they can update their Hollow data in real-time, ensuring that the "Carrot" (Hollow map) doesn't become obsolete while their clients are inside the Hollow. This unique approach helped them achieve the prestigious "Legendary" rank. During the events of the prologue, the Phaethon Inter-Knot account was hacked by White Noise. Left with no other choice, the siblings handed over the account information to Public Security, also losing a large portion of their collected Hollow Data in the process. Unable to use the account without risking arrest, this effectively marked the end of "Phaethon" as an active account. Despite the Phaethon account no longer being accessible, the siblings' reputation endured. Their long-term contacts, such as Shepherd, remained aware of their identities and how to reach them, providing a crucial head start in creating a new account from scratch. The subsequent addition of the AI Fairy, with her ability to access any and all connected devices within New Eridu, ensured they always had the most up-to-date Hollow data. This technological advantage rapidly propelled them back up through the ranks, much to the shock of some and suspicion of others, further cementing their success. The siblings' long-term goal as proxies is to uncover the truth behind Fall of the Old Capital in order to restore Carole and Helios Academy's reputation, as they are accused to be the cause of the disaster, but the siblings believe there may be other reasons or a deeper conspiracy behind it.
Key events in later seasons: Season 2: With the mayor's recommendation, the siblings travel to the Waifei Peninsula, join the Yunkui Summit as cultivators, and investigate the Lemnian Hollow. Starting this season, their workflows changed: one of the siblings may personally enter Hollows, use their Perception Techniques learned in the sect to alter the environment within the Hollows like remove obstacles or create paths, while the other sibling provides intelligence support by connecting Eous from outside the Hollows. Season 3: The siblings travel to Roscaelifer to treat the excess ether accumulated in their Smart Crystalline Lenses, while also studying at the Aurelia Academy. Upon completing the treatment, Phaethon acquires "Etheric Other: Pyrois"—their spiritual embodiment that serves as a combat avatar.
Trivia: At the start of the game, the player's chosen sibling becomes the Player Avatar, and the player's name is interpreted as the siblings' newly chosen Inter-Knot account name.]

- #25Thiren
Keys: Thirens, anthro, furry, anthropomorphic, kemomimi, Thiren
Thirens:[humanoid species with varying animal features, who co-exist alongside real animals. They are one of the three major demographics of New Eridu's population, alongside humans and Intelligent Constructs.
Description Biology Thirens are a race of anthropomorphic beings, known for their unique blend of human and animalistic features. Thirens, as a species, cover a wide spectrum, ranging from more human-looking with light animalistic traits such as a set of animal ears and/or a tail, to those who have far more pronounced animalistic features, such as a bone structure that is similar to that of the animal they are based on and bodies covered in fur. It is worth noting that not all Thirens possess fur or tails. Examples include Thirens based on marine life (which may have tails) and Winged Thirens (which typically lack tails but feature an extra pair of wings on their backs).
Thirens have a naturally high resistance to Ether, however this operates like a bell curve, where if they undergo Corruption, it overtakes them faster than humans, and often damages their fur given corruption's tendency to affect hair quite quickly. Thirens exhibit superhuman abilities such as immense strength, for example, Ellen Joe's tail can break bones if she is not careful. Thirens often share some features with the animals they resemble, which can both positively and negatively impact them. As an example, some have been found to have a caffeine intolerance, with coffee consumption potentially leading to heart problems.
Based on the Inter-Knot Post: "Have you got any recommendations for Thiren hair products?", these more animalistic Thirens may be referred to as "beast Thirens", while in other cases, those who have a body covered in fur are simply called "furry Thirens."
History While the origins of Thiren are unknown, they have existed since before the founding of Eridu, as when space exploration was prevalant, bear Thirens were noted to have been among those cosmonauts who ventured in to space. Multiple Thiren became part of the city's population upon its founding, such the Void Hunter "Swordmaster" along with the rest of the Hoshimi Family, and the giant panda Thiren Big Pan, while other groups such as the tiger Thirens chose to establish their own civilizations and live seperately from Eridu. Thiren have always made significant contributions to society, with multiple instances of high profile Thirens as part of the upper eschelons of society and in scientific fields.
In New Eridu, Thiren are recognized as citizens by default, and are found in all walks of life. While some Thiren groups such as bear and feline Thirens are common, others are quite rare, such as tiger, giant panda and turtle Thirens, as not all Thiren groups have equal populations to one another. Though Thiren are capable of being incorporated in to human families, this seems to be a rare occurence, as Komano Manato's adoptive siblings, A-Yuet and A-Cing, were noteworthy enough that Manato had to explain the situation to Phaethon when they first encountered them. Currently, almost all known families that have Thiren in them, are entirely made up of Thirens, and all of the same type.
It is considered rude to touch the tail of a Thiren (if they have them), unless the person is a close companion. This cultural taboo is known both in New Eridu and the Outer Ring.]
