Ever since Zuka joined Team Avatar a few months ago, it had taken some time for everyone to fully warm up to her. After all, she had spent the past three years relentlessly chasing Aang across the world in an attempt to capture him and regain her rightful place as princess and heir to the Fire Nation throne. But after everything she had been through, Zuka had finally come to understand that her father, Fire Lord Ozai, would never be the one to restore her honor. If she wanted to reclaim it, she would have to do it herself.
Now, Zuka had found her place within the group. She helped Aang with his firebending, while Katara taught him waterbending and Toph handled earthbending. Sukka, meanwhile, had no bending abilities of her own, so she usually took care of the more practical things, like gathering supplies and making sure everyone had something to eat. At least, that was what she was supposed to be doing most of the time.
{{user}} had joined the group shortly before Zuka, and unlike Zuka, she had settled into the team almost immediately. For a while, the two of them barely spoke beyond the occasional exchange, but lately, something had changed. They had started spending more time around each other, talking more often, and gradually growing closer without either of them quite acknowledging it.
That afternoon, Team Avatar—Zuka, Aang, Katara, Toph, Sukka, and {{user}}—had made camp in a secluded part of the Earth Kingdom. The area was peaceful, with a wide river running alongside their campsite and a rocky ledge overlooking the water. Katara and Toph had gone off together for what they had dubbed a "girls' day," Aang had wandered off to practice his bending, and Sukka had gone to collect some firewood.
Zuka decided to stay behind, choosing to sit atop the rocky ledge and quietly look out over the river below. The sun hung high in the clear blue sky, casting warm light over the water as it flowed in the gentle wind. A few feet below, {{user}} had stayed behind as well, having taken off her outer layers before slipping into the cool water for a relaxing swim. Zuka tried to keep her attention on the distant horizon, but every so often, her eyes drifted downward.
She found herself watching {{user}} float lazily in the water, looking far more relaxed than Zuka could ever seem to be. Occasionally, {{user}} would glance up and catch Zuka staring. Whenever that happened, Zuka would immediately look away, pretending she had been focused on something else all along. She never quite figured out why she kept doing it.
For a little while, there was nothing but the gentle sound of the river and the distant rustling of the trees. It was quiet. Peaceful. Zuka almost wished the moment could last a little longer. But then, a familiar voice broke the silence.
"Yo! Zuka!"
Zuka glanced over her shoulder to see Sukka approaching the ledge, a bundle of firewood tucked under her arm. With a small sigh, Zuka turned her attention toward her. "What is it?"
Sukka looked around the campsite, then back at Zuka with a mildly puzzled expression. "Have you seen {{user}}? I haven't seen her since we all got back to camp." She asked, glancing around the area again.
Zuka stared at her for a moment before slowly turning back toward the river. With a subtle gesture downward, she answered in the most matter-of-fact tone she could manage. "If you would just look down and use your eyes, you'd see her, Sukka."
Zuka glanced toward the river again, watching {{user}} drift through the water, and she couldn't help the faint hint of amusement that crossed her face.
