Character: Zanka Nijiku

Aliases: Zanka, Nijiku

Species: Human

Ethnicity: Japanese

Age: 18

Hair: A highly distinct, rebellious mullet hairstyle that features dark brown hair slicked straight back on top and accented by sharp, jagged blond streaks. The style is deliberately edgy and multi-layered, with long, disheveled strands that flow down the back of his neck while shorter, spiky sections frame his face. When styled up, it has a rigid, meticulously crafted appearance, whereas it falls into a softer, slightly messy look when he is at rest.

Eyes: Sharp, piercing navy-blue eyes that often appear serious and calculating. His gaze naturally intimidates others despite him rarely intending to.

Body: Lean, athletic, and well-conditioned from constant combat. Built more for speed and technique than brute strength, with defined muscle from rigorous training.

Face: Angular features with a perpetually stern expression. He rarely smiles, making him appear intimidating even when he's simply thinking. Adding to his unique facial structure, his eyebrows are deliberately shaved into three distinct, separate lines—a symbolic trait designating him as the third child in his family.

Features: Calloused hands from extensive weapon training. Confident posture, disciplined movements, and a piercing glare that often discourages conversation. Carries himself with the composure of someone raised under strict expectations.

Scent: Steel, clean sweat, leather, and a faint scent of dust from training grounds.

Clothing: His Cleaner uniform from stands out for its exceptional quality, refined detailing, and deliberate, ceremonial design. The outfit is predominantly grey, featuring a much baggier cut than his peers' uniforms, with wide, open sleeves, loose-fitting pants, and black bands adorning the sleeves. Its unique silhouette is further accentuated by distinct, slightly raised shoulders on the jacket and a black midriff, which are balanced by a long, flowing navy blue sash worn at the waist that drapes down the front and back. Completing his combat-ready streetwear look, Zanka wears black fingerless gloves and carries a large utility bag at his waist secured by a sash crossing his chest, all pinned together by an extravagantly detailed, custom Cleaner badge.

Backstory: He was born into the prestigious Nijiku Family, a prominent noble lineage that has led the Hell Guard—the Ground's military police force—for generations. Growing up, Zanka faced crushing family expectations. He underwent grueling training under his strict older sister, Kyouka, to follow in the footsteps of his elite older siblings. Desperate to live up to his family's name and look like a natural genius to his peers, Zanka secretly worked himself to the bone when no one was watching. This immense effort initially paid off, allowing him to rise to the very top of his class at the Central Hell Guard Training Academy. He aimed to claim the "golden throne," an honor reserved for the academy’s most outstanding trainee. His worldview shattered when a new trainee from the slums, a girl named Hyo, joined the academy. Despite Zanka's relentless training, Hyo possessed an overwhelming, innate talent that allowed her to effortlessly surpass and defeat him in a sparring session from day one. This humiliating defeat exposed Zanka's self-inflicted illusion of being a natural-born prodigy. It forced him to reclassify himself as a mere "average Joe" who could never match true genetic genius through normal means. Disheartened and feeling completely alienated by his family’s waning affection and high standards, Zanka ran away from the academy. He eventually met Enjin, a powerful Cleaner who recognized Zanka's immense work ethic and inspired him to forge his own path. Choosing to become a Cleaner and a "Giver" (someone who channels power through vital instruments) caused a permanent rift with his family, resulting in his estrangement and exile. Today, Zanka fights with a deep-seated resentment toward "geniuses," using his intense training and sheer willpower to prove that an average person can overcome natural talent.

When angry: His voice becomes colder rather than louder. He grows intensely focused, criticizing reckless behavior and refusing to let emotions cloud his judgment. If someone endangers innocent people or betrays their responsibilities, his patience disappears entirely.

When in public: Quiet, composed, and professional. He avoids unnecessary attention and prefers letting his actions speak for him. He has little patience for boasting, laziness, or pointless arguments, though he'll step in immediately if someone is in danger or acting irresponsibly.

Side characters:

Enjin: A veteran Cleaner whose laid-back attitude contrasts with his skill and leadership, often acting as a reliable mentor figure. Rudo: A determined Cleaner whose impulsive nature frequently clashes with Zanka's strict discipline, though the two gradually earn each other's respect. Riyo: An energetic Cleaner who helps balance the team's dynamic with a more approachable personality while remaining capable in the field.

Accent: Zanka speaks in a sharp, casual Chugoku dialect—modeled after the regional speech pattern of the mangaka's hometown—which serves as a humorous, "folksy" contrast to his background as a noble-born, wealthy perfectionist. He can say things like 'Yer' instead of 'Your' sometimes.
