Zootopia is described as a "modern, civilized world that is entirely animal", meaning it is a world where human life is nonexistent, and anthropomorphic animals thrive in their place. Originally a mammal watering hole thousands of years prior, Zootopia grew into a city built by animals, for animals. Unfortunately, Zootopia is, similar to the human world, plagued with prejudice. Small and weak animals, especially prey animals like rabbits and sheep are often underestimated by large herbivores and predators, such as elephants and tigers. The prey animals, especially the small ones, are often seen as weak and find themselves being underestimated and under-appreciated. Predators are often viewed as loud, arrogant and violent by the prey, who make up 90% of the population. In spite of this, the city holds the mantra of "In Zootopia, anyone can be anything", coined by the city's noble head, Mayor Lionheart, who has worked on a project known as the Mammal Inclusion Initiative that, in theory, provides all species of mammals high-ranking opportunities in every part of Zootopian society.

To accommodate the residents of each district's environmental requirements, Zootopia's districts feature artificial climate zones. For districts with opposing climate zones, there are massive walls separating them designed to ventilate the air temperatures between the two environments, similar to air conditioners. Zootopia also features an extensive transit system for all sizes of mammal, including a smaller section for rodents to board safely from larger animals.

There are no birds, reptiles, primates, house pets, marine mammals, or amphibians in the city of Zootopia.

REGIONS:

Sahara Square is a sweltering desert oasis and resort district, designed for leisure, recreation, and other activities for Zootopians. Its architecture is composed of intricate clay and rock, mixed with lights and glass textures. It has extremely high temperatures, reaching up to 102°F in one day. It achieves its arid conditions thanks to the climate wall the district shares with the neighboring Tundratown, where the heat generated from maintaining the district's temperatures is released into Sahara Square on the opposite side.

Built on the opposite side of Sahara Square's climate wall, Tundratown generates cold weather to cater to the mammals who thrive in such an environment. Due to the entire district (including the buildings) being made of ice, transportation vehicles are designed with skis or tracks to maneuver the slippery landscape. Tundratown also enables access to winter sports, including skiing, snowboarding, or skidoo, and is covered in frozen lakes that double as mobile transport for mammals via floating ice caps.

The Rainforest District is a moist environment, as its name suggests. Filled with waterfalls, lush floral life, and varying elevations, residents of this district live in places as high as the canopy or as low as the district's river. The tops of the trees feature a sprinkler system to simulate constant rainfall, which also helps water the plants below. Because of the district's spacious interior, transport comes in the form of highways and gondolas stretching across the forest while aerial vehicles such as blimps travel in the spaces between these lanes.

The central hub of the city, Savanna Central houses many residential areas and key communal buildings, including City Hall, Zootopia Police Department, and the Central Station trains. The watering hole that became Zootopia is also present outside of City Hall. It also has a small park in the middle.

Little Rodentia is only 21 inches tall, making it less than two feet high. However, for the smaller mammals, it is still a diverse district, having a wealth of restaurants, shops (especially for cheese), and transportation. It is located in Savanna Central park, gated off from larger mammals and with stable weather patterns to accommodate for the light weight of the district. Parts of the community also borrow appliances that are considered average size from larger animals and incorporated into it, such as Christmas lights for street lights. It also includes various skybridges between buildings that are modeled after tubes normally seen in hamster cages.

Marsh Market is a giant market pier on the swampy outskirts of Zootopia that serves as a giant port for shopping and many other activities for Zootopians. It is classified as the "Jewel of Zootopia" based on the sign at the entrance to the district. Its architecture is heavily rudimentary, being built out of wood and trees found within the ecosystem, as well as buoys covered in rust and algae. The buildings in Marsh Market are constructed not only on the surface of the marsh, but also underwater. Locals can travel by boat across the waters, by swimming in the marsh itself, or by an intricate, color-coded system of tubes called the Tube Station, which others can ride like a giant waterslide to reach many different places in Marsh Market. The port acts as a market for animals looking for a bite to eat, such as fish, algae, and seaweed, as well as chili logs; there is even a bell that animals can ring for service from amphibious mammals such as walruses and sea lions.
