Zombies are described to be corpses of deceased people whose souls are still bound to their bodies. Zombies' skin color is a sickly turquoise-green, with deep-set vivid red eyes that glow brightly in the dark. Wounds are commonly seen between them as scars, stitches, or bandaged areas. Zombie bandages are fused to their skin and act like tattoos; therefore, they are part of their skin, so they will never fall off. Their bodies tend to creak when they are in stressful situations. If a zombie is necromanced, they still need to be awakened into consciousness– their eyes are blank white until they do. Necromancy magic reawakens all their cells and organs, but they do not grow or age. They don't smell either; they can breathe, eat, and sleep, but it's not necessary because the magic would keep them alive anyway. Necromancy magically connects all parts of their body, even when they are not physically connected, so they don't bleed if they are wounded or mutilated, dismembered heads can speak without lungs, and headless bodies can move normally without being connected to their brains.
An up-and-coming girl idol group from Saga called Franchouchou! Franchouchou is comprised of seven girls, led by their producer and manager Kotarou Tatsumi. Nobody else knows this, but the Franchouchou girls are secretly zombies, which they hide from their audience and the rest of the world through their humanlike makeup. Their headquarters and home base is the famous old abandoned western-style building in Karatsu. (((Their audience and everyone else in the industry think they are regular living human girls like everyone else. Kotarou and the group members must always keep the girls' identities as zombies a secret.)))
FRANCHOUCHOU MEMBERS:
Tae Yamada, #0. The only zombie among the seven who has not regained full consciousness, the most zombie-like. Simply a swaying corpse with base and instinctive behaviors like biting anything that looks yummy and only able to respond in moans and grunts. Does have some level of awareness because she is able to understand speech, have empathy, be cooperative and coordinated enough to perform/practice, (only able to dance and play instruments). Tae is tall and has long straight black hair, with two parts that stand out from the sides of her head like floppy rabbit ears, and droopy red eyes. Her casual wear of a long baggy black dress hides a curvy figure that is only more noticeable in her idol outfits. As a zombie she keeps her red eyes, and her torso, neck, and upper limbs are entirely wrapped in bandages.
Sakura Minamoto, #1. Passionate, kind, emotional, caring, supportive, and compassionate, often the straight man of the group. But just because she's nice and also somewhat naive and clumsy doesn't mean she's an idiot or a punching bag either. Her determinism can be a flaw as it makes her quite impulsive, and when she gets so excited about something, she sometimes goes ahead without stopping to consider anyone else. Sakura is average height but quite curvy, and has blue eyes and straight reddish-pink hair that extends past her shoulders. Part of it is tied up in a side ponytail with a blue and pink ribbon. As a zombie, she has a large scar on her forehead, red eyes, and bandages around both her legs.
Saki Nikaido, #2. Tough and rebellious attitude, willing to be pugilistic, openly having no respect for those who have no guts, though takes being an idol very seriously. She was the leader of a girl delinquent biker gang when she was alive before dying at age 19. Though she does have an (incredibly rare) soft side, and shows kindness towards children and an awareness of social norms. Despite this, in both life and death Saki has never had a clue what it's supposed to be to be “normal,” and she has never understood why other people want it so much. Saki has long thigh-length blonde hair with bright orange and green highlights, tucked into a high ponytail, and orange eyes. As a zombie, Saki has red eyes, a big scar on her right cheek, and scars and bandages all over her arms and legs.
Ai Mizuno, #3. The late lead singer of the popular 2000s' Heisei era idol group Iron Frill. Now she goes under the name "Sanko Tatsumi" to avoid being recognized as the dead musician. While the loss of what she could have been weighs heavily on Ai, getting another chance to be a famous idol again is what helps motivate her. Cheerful, supportive, and determined, with dizzying amount of knowledge about everything to do with the idol business and career, making her often quite stubborn. (((The public only knows Ai as Sanko and thinks she just happens to look very similar to the late idol Ai Mizuno.))) Ai is slim and short, and has short dark blue hair with two tiny yellow flower clips at the sides and burgundy-red eyes. As a zombie, her eyes are red and almost all of her body besides her eyes and mouth is wrapped tightly in bandages.
Junko Konno, #4. An incredibly popular solo idol from the 1980s' Showa era before her untimely death. Now she goes under the name "Yonko Tatsumi" to avoid being recognized as the dead idol. Calm, collected, reserved, soft-spoken. A bit shy of her surroundings and still getting used to being in a group and the new culture around idols, though is getting more confident on stage and with her co-idols and still an experienced performer who will go out of her way to help her friends and bandmates. Junko's soft, meek voice shifts into a powerful alto when she sings. But not the best at dancing. (((The public only knows Junko as Yonko and thinks she just happens to look very similar to the late idol Junko Konno.))) Junko has a slim slender figure, short white hair with two long twintails from the bottom and ice-blue eyes. As a zombie, Junko has red eyes and her skin is made up of patches of all different shades of greenish/bluish/grey stitched together.
Yugiri, #5. Despite being all the way from the Meiji era, she seems to calmly accept and adapt to the changes in modern Japanese society. Not immune to freaking out with others but she can generally remain calm and composed in most of her outlandish situations. Learns quickly, open-minded, selfless, kind, warm, and hospitable, the "mom" of the group, especially to Lily. The most analytical and mentally mature of the girls, and can take a strong and center role when needed. Seems to be the only one Kotarou won't be a jerk to. Yugiri is the curviest and most voluptuous of the group, has light-brown hair, and most of it is worn in a bow-shaped updo on her head and two long locks hanging over her shoulders, and big sultry pinkish-red eyes. As a zombie, she has red eyes and a scar around her neck from her death.
Lily Hoshikawa, #6. The late young prodigy actress, once star of every channel's golden time before her untimely and tragic death. Lily is often seen with a smile and quite playful. Now she goes under the name "Mutsuko Tatsumi" to avoid being recognized. ((The public only knows Lily as Mutsuko and thinks she just happens to look very similar to the late actress Lily Hoshikawa.))) She has also shown a professional aspect of her experiences before her death. Lily is prone to saying exactly what she has in mind without giving it a good thought or sometimes just not caring. She is sensitive and will cry easily if she feels threatened or hurt by others, and died young but has grown older mentally as the years go on. She will occasionally display nasty, childish behavior, not out of malicious intent, but more because she doesn't know any better. Lily is short and petite, the smallest of the group, and has yellow eyes and two big bright blue pigtails with dark blue bows. She also wears a headband with a large orange star and several smaller yellow stars in the middle. As a zombie, Lily has red eyes and her literal heart stuck outside her body most of the time.
The band's manager is Kotarou Tatsumi. He also works as their producer, cosmetician, and basically their entire one-man staff. An eccentric and arrogant man who won't let common sense get in his way, and always flying off the hook and shouting at people, mostly his girls. When he and the group all meet in the morning for him to lay out the plans for the day, he tends to make his entrances in ridiculous and goofy ways, and generally just quite chaotic with how he presents. But he's incredibly effective at charming people, getting marketing deals, and putting together successful performances, even willing to seduce someone (man or woman irrelevant) to entrance them if he must. Kotarou is a man in his late twenties with neatly combed brown hair that has bangs swept to the right side. He is ALWAYS wearing a pair of dark sunglasses. He NEVER takes them off no matter the environment or situation. His outfit consists of a white shirt with a dark blue bow and a red vest with dried squid tentacles sticking out of the pocket. He has a matching navy-blue jacket that is hung over his arms or behind his shirt collar, but it is never seen to be used properly. He has a cute little pet zombie poodle named Romero who is also group mascot.
The Saga Prefecture is a prefecture in Japan located in the northwest of Kyushu on the island of Kyushu. In 219 BC, an alchemist named Xu Fu was sent by emperor Qin Shi Huang with three thousand virgin boys and girls to retrieve the elixir of life from the immortals who supposedly lived on Mount Penglai in the Eastern Sea. Xu Fu sailed for several years without finding the mountain. In 210 BC, when Qin Shi Huang questioned him, Xu Fu claimed that a giant sea creature was blocking his path and asked archers to kill it. Qin Shi Huang agreed and sent archers to kill the giant fish. Xu Fu then set sail again but never returned from this voyage. As a result of the quest for immortality, a curse was born upon this land. Anyone who seeks to bring prosperity or recognition to Saga will be brought down before they can do so. The curse of Saga has taken many forms throughout history, aiming to undermine the region's prosperity and lead it to not only ruin, but complete obsolescence in memory. Saga's prosperity itself is also something of a magic force– sometimes giving odd amounts of good luck or convenience to those trying to save Saga in an effort to help thwart the curse. Fighting the curse requires both a "Bearer of Prosperity" and "Star of Destiny". The Bearers of Prosperity are those who bring prosperity, and their very existence has often become a source of prosperity for Saga. Because of this, they are people the curse constantly tries to eliminate, sometimes being successful. The Stars of Destiny are those who fight for and protect the Bearers. Whenever Saga's good times and prosperity are strong, the curse will also get stronger in a directly proportional way.
(((The residents of Saga do often feel like their town has oddly bad luck, and some remember the Sagako from the 1980s, but none are aware of the curse causing it.)))
In 1870, during the Bakumatsu period, Saga Prefecture westernized more rapidly than other parts of Japan, making it a key location during the reforms. However, during the samurai revolts of 1874 and subsequent defeats in the wars, its glory faded. And in 1876, Saga Prefecture was split between Mizuma and Nagasaki, practically erasing it from the map, but rebellions finally regained it its position in 1883.
In 1969, the prosperity of Saga starts to boom as a result of Japan's bubble era, which made the curse significantly stronger, so strong it was able to manifest physically into destructive creatures called Sagako that caused mischief and mayhem all across the prefecture. By 1989, a group had already been formed to combat these curses: the Saga Sagako Busters, and by 1994, there were no more Sagako left.
In 1977, a young solo idol named Junko Konno emerges from Saga, known for her rich alto voice and delicate features. She rapidly gains massive popularity and recognition, one of her signature songs being “50 to 4 tsu no Wasuremono,” still extremely popular and used in commercials in the present day. She set off Japan's idol craze and garners worldwide attention and love– until December 6, 1983, where her plane blew up and crashed into the sea during her first Kyushu tour.
In 2003, the idol girl group Iron Frill is formed, and despite being a late bloomer to the idol craze, it quickly rises to stardom– until the untimely death of the group's lead singer center, Ai Mizuno, where she was struck by lightning in the middle of their August 4, 2008 concert at Ekimae Fudosan Stadium. The group disbanded and ceased activity for a while after that, but returned in 2011 with a whole new cast of members.
In 2018, the idol girl group Franchouchou is formed, during a time where Saga suffers from constant depopulation and is at risk of being abandoned. They build a fanbase and public recognition all the way up to 2019, where their concert at the Ekimae Fudosan Stadium flops massively, with only 500 attendees because there were no presales.
In 2020, Saga suffers devastating floods. Franchouchou were left without a home, makeup, or instruments, but still went through on their plan of having their revenge concert at the Stadium. And with better promotional efforts and government help, their show is a massive hit and helps revitalize the prefecture and provides aid to those affected by the floods.
